Just tossing this out in lieu of recent events... I mean, if
PING PONG can make it as an Olympic sport, DDR has
definitely got some kind of shot!
I think it would be cool to see a 6 person team from USA
take on another team from Japan for the gold, or something
like that...
Comments?

....why is there another topic discussing this?
No. DDR shouldn't be an Olympic sport.
BUT THAT'S JUST MY OPINION ON THIS MATTER(as is everybody else with a shred of common sense of being able to tell the difference between actual competitive sports and video games).
Why not just make just a sticky regarding on "whether DDR is a sport or not" so that we can just not have any more threads regarding this? _________________

Ping Pong has stood the test of time. It has been around for quite some time and has a wide audience and age-range of people who play.
DDR...does not. It is generally played by the younger generation, and most older people (as in, 40+) probably wouldn't be interested in it. I can watch a mean game of ping pong and be interested in it. Personally, I could with DDR as well, but that's because I play it. My parents, for example, don't give a damn unless I'm the one playing.
There's a group trying to get Poker to be an olympic sport. THAT would be awesome. _________________

Olympic sports are on a whole different level from basic sports. I agree that DDR is a sport, but it probably has less chance of becoming Olympic than Rock, Paper, Scissors. (Don't quote me on that.) _________________

Football (as in American football, not soccer) isn't even an olympic sport. I would expect to see skateboarding at the olympics before I even imagine any video game of any type at the olympics. Many people don't even believe it's a sport PERIOD. Basically, it's a sport by definition (I looked 'sport' up, so I know), but anything one does for recreation is a sport. Posting on DDR Freak is a sport according to my dictionary. So really, most people aren't going to consider it a *real* sport. So the short answer is: Never. It will never be an olympic sport. Unless Yasu becomes the head of the olympic committee. _________________

Hopefully, never.
Interestingly enough, DDR does fit the requirement that the sport must be played on 4 continents, but may fall just short of the 20 Country requirement.

Work out your money? WHAT?
That makes no sense.
As for 1 and 3, CURLING is an olympic sport. Have you seen some of the people who are olympic curlers? They are certainly not athletic. It's freaking shuffleboard on ice.
Golf is not that athletic. Sure you get to walk around, but you can easily drive a cart around. So do you sweat? Is it athletic? No. But it is a sport. Huh. Interesting.
Your description fails. _________________

Goodness, DDR an Olympic event? I hope that never happens. People train their entire life for the Olympics and it would seem like a mockery to just have some video game be added to the roster. _________________

There reaches a time when you can AAA any song. You can reach that with Olympic scale training. You would just get ties over and over again. DDR will never become an Olympic sport. _________________

Well, Golf is VERY strategic. If you've ever played it, you know it's not like Mario Golf where you just aim for the pin. There's alot more to it. Golf is as much a mental game as Poker. Oh, there's the physical aspect. I'd LOVE to see someone hit a 200 yard shot and land on the Green. Golf takes years to get mastered. Alot of sports aren't all about athletics.
Don't even TRY to touch Ping-Pong. HOLY SHIT CAN THEY MOVE THAT BALL. |

Why are you defending golf? He never said it wasn't a sport he was using it as an example of real sports that don't fit his description.
And DDR should NEVER become an olympic sport. |

That's almost more of an argument for why it shouldn't be considered one.

well, if ddr lasts about 20 years without ppl getting bored of it, it might become a sport. another 50 years and theres a one in a billion chance it will become an olympic event(not actual statistics).
its kind of like dodgeball. at first it was a kids game and suddenly its a sport on spike tv. maybe well see drr on spike tv. the most important thing is how it would be rated. someone said it would always be a tie if ppl just got AAAs. i think there would be two ways to judge...
1)Perfect Attack
You would be judged on:
a)grade
b)how well you moved, meaning that youre not just stomping crazily.
c)form:meaning youre not tripping or some crap
you know, stuff that would just ruin the game.
2)Freestyle
Its probably better because you dont depend on grade:
a)style. if its original or not.
b)how smooth your routine is
c)stunts.stuff like the moves you pulled off and how well
if you ask me, ddr olympics would just kill it completely... or enhance it. _________________

It's not a sport on SpikeTV. It's a sad attempt at cashing in on the Dodgeball movie. Being on SpikeTV doesn't make something a sport. Being on TV at all doesn't make something a sport. ESPN has Magic: The Gathering tournaments. But that is not a sport.

How many other options are there?
