I am new to DDR and I just bought Konamix and two thin el cheapo pads off this auction. I gather that you all here expect these pads to fail after a week or two--is that true?

In any case, it seems that there are three distinct problems that have been addressed by pad mods in this thread:

Keeping the pad stationary on the floor
Improving step detection
Preventing damage to the pad

Is this correct? Now, on to my question. I play on a hardwood floor, so (1) above isn't a problem for me. I have been happy with my pad's accuracy, so (2) doesn't matter.

I don't really understand (3). How does taping your pad to a piece of plywood prevent damage? It would seem that playing on a hardwood floor is the same thing?

My bns pads took about 6 days to get from california to florida, so i would assume it would just mean less time for you.

Bc when not taped on a hardwood, then the pad slips around and stratch making the pad fail to work.

A couple days ago I got this pad off ebay -

When I first used them the pad seemed to be working wonderfully until I began to have some problems with the left arrow. After about 30-40 seconds of play, the left arrow started not responding on like 2 outta 3 arrows.

If I wait about a minute or 2 the arrow works fine again for like 30 seconds.

When I take the foam out the left arrow seems to last a little longer, but eventually still has the problem.

This problem is with both pads, and only the left arrow on both.

i have a red octane pad with the foam you insert into it and my down button is messed up for some reason

whenever i step in the middle of the pad the down button gets hit so i always mess up when i have to hit the down button

does anyone know how i can fix this problem?

My left and right arrows are un responsive. It messes up only on fast songs though. My friends told me i might need to replace the foam padding, But is there a certain foam you need?

I don't know if tis has been brought up but my friend had a GREAT idea! We have one of those things for your chairs with wheels for the desk or whatever and she goes, "We should put your pad on there." So we did and it worked AWESOME! Also..withthe MatCatz pads you can use shoes. Also...we used the fat blue painters tape to tape it down.

Just over two months of everyday usage, both [down] arrows on the official Konami pads fail to respond. While this won't strike anyone as out of the ordinary, for some odd reason the unresponsiveness occurs only when one of the other arrows are stepped/stood on. Does anyone know how to address this issue? Unfortunately, I failed to modify the pads before use, so I fear they cannot be saved. Granted, this isn't much of a problem for beginners using only one foot, however I have surpassed this level. Has anyone else experienced this?

(Forgive me if this problem has already been posted, I have no desire to search all 80 pages of this thread...0

Alright, I ordered a two pad bundle off ebay from Discount-Auction, two DDRNation Ignition Style (soft fom).

Ive had them for about 4 days, and tonight I stepped on the black box at the top w/ the LEDs that the wire comes out of. Now, the whole left side (x, left arrow, and select) have stopped working (occasisonally register, 9 times out of ten dont).

Please, anyone have any idea how to repair this?

Rather upsetting indeed, boathack. I too am considering opening up the pads, as they can no longer be returned. Perhaps there is a way to save them; I have yet to figure that out. Any suggestions?

Where does the insert go in the pad if I add a new level six? Also, can a cheap pad be modded to add the hard insert by cutting it open. Again, where does the insert go? TIA

Refer to this guide about ignition pad problems and possible fixes for them.

If your arrows fail to respond or seem to been rapid firing, you have two options: return for replacement or open your pad to fix it. The above guide has a link for pad surgery.

The above guide also have tips about buying ignition pads/how to take care your pads.
