First off, your forums SUCK!!! A person can't search for a specific vendor and find any usefull information. You point everyone to a forum that has 1,700 posts in it and not to the specific page that is relevant to their search. No one has time to go through all that information. As such people have to post repetitive questions and then those questions have to be answered again and again. Either split this forum into specifics forums about certain controllers (there aren't that many) or get rid of it all together. But, enough of my rant!!!
Has anyone had a problem with Neogames metal pads bought off of Ebay with the up arrow getting stuck? If so how have you fixed it? Does anyone have a schematic of the circuit board being used?
I have unsoldered the touch sensor and the up arrow is still stuck. It appears to be something between the circuit board and the DB9 serial port that plugs into the box that comes with the pad which connects to the PS2. |

Removed the nonfunctional arrow panels and look carefully at the copper metal contact underneath. Make sure the aluminum foil from the arrow panel is not stuck on the copper metal plate which can cause the arrows to fire a step repeatly. |

first off, i probably play around 2 hours of ddr a week at max. i play 8 and 9 footers usually.
the buy n shop pad given to me worked fine for the first 30 days. which the warranty covers. and on teh 35th day the left arrow would always be repsonging (held down) so i couldnt use it.
i e-mailed buynshop and what they sent me was a users manual explaining how to fix a problem and routin maintenence. funny how they didnt give this to me when i bought it!!!
i did not modify my pad wtih the sheet metal before but i didnt think i would have to being that it wasnt under heavy usage.
bottom line is, im very dissapointed in the pad. |

So they sent you instructions of adding sheet metal underneath the arrow? Is the pad working now after you did the fix? They could atleast follow RO and have sheet metal under their arrows already. |

Hi, I just played DDREXtreme in an Arcade about a week ago, and I fell in love. A few days later, I played it again, and I decided a had to have it. So I've been researching metal pads for countless hours, but it seems that there are so many crappy ones out there, I don't want it to break or anything. CobaltFlux is very expensive, but it might have been a possibility if there was a way to play it on xbox (which is what I'm getting the pad for). So I've heard a lot of people talking, and I know to get Plexiglass arrows, and to avoid aluminum to copper contact systems. I really am wanting to get one of the 3 inch thick ones with the trick bar, because it looks the most arcade-like. So could someone please give me a list of really good quality metal pads that will: Work on xbox; not break fast; and don't need modding. I am only 14, so I wouldn't know how to do any modding like replacing the aluminum with sheet metal. Here are a few sites i was considering:

The trick bar versions on this site have aluminum contacts, so i don't know about those, but the 1.5" thick ones have metal contacts.

I'd avoid a metal pad with a bar. It's not sturdy, heavy, or balanced enough to support a bar. Plus they charge way too much for pad+bar anyways. If your going to spend this much on a pad, might as well go for a CF.
RO is the only vendor that has metal plate but recently buyers have had numerous compliants about the pad. The sheet metal mod isn't very complicated and there is a guide that has step-by-step instructions, so you can have more choices. The next vendor I suggest for these types of pad is BNS v2.53. Metal pads can last quite a while, its just requires alot more care.
Bottom-line, your no hassle pad will be CF. It requires no modding and not as much maintanence compared to regular metal pads. CF and other metal pads don't have the exact arcade feeling. CF is totally flat while metal pads press/flex and doesn't respond at corners.

Places like Home Depot and Lowes will cut the plexiglass for you. |

MANY people use their CF pads on an xbox. You simply need a convertor. The best place to go to get a specific answer as to what convertor you need is to cobaltflux.com and then post a message asking about it under forums. I know of people that have simply purchased a generic convertor from ebworld.com that allows PS2 controllers to be used with an xbox or gamecube and used their CF pad with an xbox.
So yes, CF pads can be used with an xbox fine. The only problem that you will run into at the moment is that when playing DDR Ultramix online on xbox, your pad will show up as a controller and not a dance pad. People have worked around this by making different control boxes and such but for specifics, make sure to ask on the cobalt flux forums.

i think you might be able to use a RO box because it works for ps2 and xbox and it has the same connector as the CF does im pretty sure you can look at it on their website.

I just ordered a cobalt flux, I've played on them before and absolutely love them but I have a problem with the flat design. I like to be able to feel where the arrows are so I don't get lost in the middle of a song.
Does anyone have any suggestions on ways to modify a cobalt flux to make the arrows distinct from the corners and center?

The physical connector itself is the same, but the wiring is different. You need to make an RO -> CF converter cable to use an RO cbox with a CF. But once you have that part done, it works great. |
wow thats kinda wierd i would have thought the two companies would have used the same styles of wiring if they used the same connectors... owell nm  . |

You can do what I did and make a control box. What you need is, cheapest controller you can find, wire, soldering iron and solder, drill, or some type of cutting device, connecton to the pad you can by from radioshack, and box and buttons are optional. To pin out a pad all you need is a battery and LED, or a multimeter which you can get for $9.99 at pepboys. I can help you if you want to make your own box, its really easy and should just take a few hours.
