Either that or you don't have a folder for each individual song, which is how it needs to be. Example:
C:\Program Files\Stepmania CVS\Songs\Dance Dance Revolution 8th Mix -Extreme-\1998\1998.(mp3, dwi, etc.) _________________

When you go to songs you should have a folder (ex. DDR 5th Mix) and in that folder you should have a folder for each song.
If i remember correctly there has been a problem before like this and I don't know if it ever got fixed. Well hope I was of help but probably not. _________________

As I posted, you should have a folder for each song, and inside that folder you have to have at least an mp3 and a dwi. So in the "Songs" folder, I have a bunch of folders, things like DDR 1st Mix, DDR 6th Mix -Max-, and DDR Ultramix. Inside of each of those folders I have one folder per song, and inside each song folder, I have an mp3, a dwi, and two image files (background image and banner). _________________

ok...
installing songs: a step-by-step tutorial by annon (winxp users)
step 1: go to the stepmania folder and click on the songs folder. once you're in there, make a new folder and name it after a mix or whatever you want.
step 2: download the zip file and extract it into the new folder. make sure that each song has its own folder named after that song (e.g. sakura) and make sure it is directly in the new folder. if it's in a folder in a folder in the new folder, it doesn't work. in each of those folders, an mp3 file is required, along with a dwi/sm file, both if they go by the same step sequence and it is optional to put a backround/banner/bgchange/lyrics file in there.
step 3: open stepmania and your song(s) should be selectable. if not, go to the options menu and reload the songs/courses if it still doesn't work, there is a corrupted music file in the folder, or the step files are corrupted. the step files easily open up in notepad, so you can see if somethings wrong with it. check the stepfile creations help thread(or whatever it's called) to see how to see if the code is entered correctly. if it still doesn't work after that, the music file is corrupted and the song won't open in stepmania, so you might as well delete the song's folder, not the mix's folder. keep it for other files. if it does work, you should be able to play game mode, select all music mode, and select the song with nothing being empty.
that should help some people _________________

wow, that sucks. i'm running alpha 20. after seeing everyone's comments about the errors alpha 21 had, i figured i'm not upgrading until alpha 21 gets fixed or alpha 22 gets released. _________________

For saving scores, try this:
1. Switch out of event mode and play a song. It should save your score.
2. Switch back to event mode (if you want to). It should now save your scores fine.
I don't know why, but when I switched out of event mode, it started saving my scores fine, and when I switched back, it stayed that way. Wieeerd.
And...

hey everybody. uhh i have a problem with stepmania v3.9 alpha 21. imagine that eh? well it happened with alpha 20 as well so there... but anyway there is no crash dump so that wont help. and after that huge post i doubt i'd post one anyway. but when i start stepmania in fullscreen mode it doest work. screen's totally black. i have a radeon 9600 xt and the latest catalyst driver. i doubt it's the video card. but anyway when i go into the config settings and switch "windowed" or whatever the option is called to 1, it starts up in windowed mode fine and then after i change it to full screen it works pretty well. does anyone else have this problem? and can anyone help me fix it? thanks.... _________________

Do any of you know how to delete all scores on SM? I ask this because all my scores on there are from playing on keyboard(AA's on the max's, psmoni, sdg's on 9 footers), but now I have Cobalt Fluxes, and I only want scores acheived on pads on my SM.
And another thing, incase any of the SM programmers are reading, right now (a21), scores aren't saved on edit(grey) steps, but I think they should, or at least there should be an option whether or not to, because on a lot of simfiles there are two sets of challenge/smaniac steps on the file(example: udderdudes Healing Vision angelic megamix), and the second set comes up as edit steps(grey feet), and I want those scores to be saved. _________________

I am very sorry if this has been posted before (I don't feel like going through the pages on my very slow dial up connection). Here's my question:
I downloaded the nonstop mixes (DDR Bass Solo Mix - Nonstop A, B, C, D, E, F) from DDR UK and they only show up in my normal songs. How do I put the nonstop mixes in the Nonstop section?
Also, where do I download announcers?
Again, sorry if this has been posted before...
Thank you. _________________

Heyo! I know I must be the billionth person to ask for help, but I really need it!
I have the Mac OS X SM version and it plays the songs ok, but whenever i'm on the song wheel select screen, the previews are all glitchy and jumpy. As soon as I select the song though, it plays it ok. I tried all the fixes on the SM website and it didn't do anything. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this. If so, I would be much appreciative!
Thanks! _________________

Now if you don't mind, I have to go play "Pink Dinosaur!" |

Look in the Data folder of the SM directory...there should be a file in there witha title like "records.dat" or "scores.dat" (I'm not at home, so I can't check right now) that contains your scores...if you open the file in notepad it should be pretty obvious that it is the right one, as it will have song names and some numbers. I assume that if you delete the file, SM will be smart enough to create a new, blank one next time you play, but if you wanted to be safe, you'd have to manually delete the scores (which would be a pain).

To my knowledge, there is no way to make a song innaccesible in normal game mode, but to make courses, you have to create a course file that goes into the Courses folder of your SM directory. See the Stepmania readme or the Simulator FAQ sticky for information on how to do this.

www.stepmania.com has a Max 2 announcer, and www.savageddr.com has (or at least had) an Extreme announcer. _________________

Ok I need some help I somehow can't get any of the oni or nonstop courses to work. I saved all the 8th mix JP (ONI) course information from a file on ddruk to the course folder and put it all in there in a huge jumble (stuff like Legend road, road of truth, IIDX boss, etc) and yet when i goto oni or nonstop in the game it won't show them. All it shows is "Songs by dj. taka" "Songs by 2MB" "Songs by Captain Jack" but I don't see legend road, road of slow or anything like that on there even though i have all the songs for each oni course and nonstop in the songs folder and all the course files in the course folder. Someone please explain to me why they won't show up? I have the latest stepmania version too I think "StepMania 3.9 alpha 20". I also tried going into the edit courses on main menu and saw that I could edit the oni courses and nonstops yet it only allowed me to put in 1 song for each one so I couldn't put in all the songs for Legend road just max 300 heavy first song. If I did that it would show up but only with 1 song because for some reason it didn't let me do other songs. BTW I have extreme skin someone help me plz. |

One problem you could be dealing with is that the paths to the files specified in the course files have to be exact. If you downloaded everything from DDRUK, it should be set up correctly, but otherwise check to make sure the paths match up exactly. _________________
