Why does everyone seem to automatically think your using a PS2? PS2's are apsalutely horrid! Grrr I hate them. Just use Stepmania on the Xbox. It works like a charm. |

i fixed one of these pads about a month or so ago and it had a similar problem to yours. two of the arrows didn't work. the problem was that the original wires connected to the contact boards were too short in length and ended up breaking when the contact board moved around. you will need to find the wood panel on the bottom that covers the opening where the circuit board is. it can be a little tricky cuz the entire bottom of the pad is covered by a sheet of foam which is glued to the pad. the panel is roughly 1-1/2' x 2'. i used a utility knife to cut the foam around the panel then used a claw hammer to pry the panel off which is held in place with 1/2" staples. after you do this you can access all the wiring and replace or add extra length to the existing wires. hope this helps and good luck. _________________

no i have never even heard of a cobalt flux needing to be fixed unless it was horribly abused. i have however played on CF pads and they are incredible. you should definitely send the one you have back to the manufacturer if you can get a refund and buy a CF pad. _________________

Does anyone have a link or tutorial for building a bar? I'm getting supplies for a pad tomorrow, and it would be convienient for me to know what I need to build a bar. I haven't seen anything by searching the forums, but if anyone has a basic method to making one, I would appreciate it |

Tyris wrote: | Didjivibes wrote: | Nice looking pad Tyris. Reminds me of a MyMyBox pad from the braces you used. Any chance you have pics of the inside of the pad you would upload? I'm very curious how you did your contacts and wiring under the panels. Also, did you choose to use wood for the arrow panels instead of using plexi w/ graphics? Thanks. |
I'd take some internal pics... unfortunately I dont intend to open it up anytime soon (opening it is a major hassle which is why i moddified it so that to repair the buttons.... I dont -have- to open it =D)
basically... internally, its exactly the same as DDR HP's (a few minor changes with the buttons... like rubber underneath them as well for extra bounce...), except with all the extra 'air' taken out (the bits of wood holding it up are gone... which also meant I had to dig 'rivets' into the wood for the wires to run).
So yeah, the buttons are just the DDRHP design... altho as you noticed, with only wood and no graphics...
my first pads were exactly the same as DDRHP's...
the 3rd pad (this one), intitially had:
plexiglass (perspex)
wood
copper
weather stripping
copper
wood
as its make up... but since I replace the brackets.. the plexiglass bit didnt quite fit properly (wasnt quite enough space).
so now its:
wood
copper
weather stripping + rubber (actually some rubber weather stripping)
copper
wood
rubber
as its makeup... which seems to work perfectly... I'm also going to use contact paper to put images onto the top piece of wood for each button, essentially finishing it
For the guys asking about LED lighting...
a PS controller should be able to draw enough power to light them up, depending on how many you use, and how you want them to work (for individual buttons presses etc), and the wiring for them shouldnt be too hard... if you use to many tho (like a lot too many) you may lose so much power to them that the sensitivity of your buttons could drop (I think.. coz the electricity would be being used by the lights, and hence not completing the circuit is strongly). |
Any info on those spiffy braces? i'm building a ddr pad soon (and i build 2 in the past using this method....) using 4 washers instead of braces, then using screws to hold the other side of the arrow down...worked pretty well... but i like those braces...where can i get those? or did you make em'? _________________

Hey everyone
I made a couple of dancepads and they turned out so well I decided to start selling them. They work and look great. They are similar to DDRhomepads design but with many significant differences.
You can check them out at my website www.freewebs.com/metalddr |

you may want to try the marketplace: http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=31 ... just about everyone here is about making their own for cheaper than the hard pads, and knowing parts cost for less than 250 (usually around $100) why would we bother? _________________

yeah, I know you guys are all about making your own pads. I just thought you might be interested in seeing some pictures of mine. Thanks for the tip though. |

How does a well built homemade meatal pad, using these designs, rank compared to the metal pads you can buy from stores or online, like CF or RO?
How similar to the arcade pads are they? |

Is anyone interested in making their own circuit board rather than buying a controller. From looking at my softpad it seems you only need a 40uF capacitor each button, a resistor and a diode... |

wilfor... you also forget to mentiont the black blob on the board, which is a number of things, the playstation takes information serially... ok, well, before i get into this, I'll just post a link... http://www.gamesx.com/controldata/psxcont/psxcont.htm ... everything you needed to know about playstation controllers, from creation to how they talk to the playstation... it really isn't as simple as caps resistors and diodes, but its not too bad of a task (if you know what you are doing) _________________
