CF's don't have lights and neither do Red Octane metal pads.

Just a reminder... never buy RO metal pads, they suck. Read my original post on the subject on page 80.

RO metal pads don't light up they aren't supposed to whoever thinks that is mistaken (your probably thinking about the dinky soft pad)

btw match can you compare the way a CF is compared to the arcade? i've never gotten to use one and it sounds really good

Are there pads that hae light up arrows when you step on them? I think on ebay there's a pad called NEO or something, but is this for real?

I just got a RO metal pad used from the forums for $150. It does light up, it uses 6 Leds in each arrow border, nothing special.

My personal opinion. It a decent pad, but has a few flaws that are just annoying. Whole pad flexs, it doesnt feel solid at all. The inside sensor seems small. The arrows have to flex, takes awhile getting used it. The responce is ok, not as good as the arcade, but on par or better that my old modded softpad while it still worked. If it was more solid it would be awesome, if I can find a way to make it more solid I will, I'm just to lazy to take the hole thing apart now. The middle metal peice seems to 'float' making it noisy when I play.

Whats good about it is it uses a regular 15 pin connection making homemade control boxes easy to make, so no need for a psx to whatever adapter. But I'm sure all metal pads use some connection like that.

This should still hold me until I make a metal pad, and for $150 it was worth it.

You must have bought an older version of RO's pad. I got mine brand new and it had no lights and it doesn't flex.

I have noticed that, too. I think that they have inflated shipping charges- to make the cost on the ebay listings seem low. It's a "creative" tool to get you to bid..

:-(, damn I see they lost the pointless lights and added some better functionality. I don't even have the lights hooked up on mine.

so lights on redoctane = older flexy version
no lights = better new version

I could be wrong about this but maybe the people selling these are middlemen. I would be willing to bet that they never even see these pads, so they have to charge shipping. They most logical scenario here to me is that the company that manufactures these pads does not have a very good reputation, so they agree to give this auctioner like 5% of their profits of some tiny number like that to spend the time setting up auctions that make it seem like these pads are not what they really are without blatently lying. Jus my two cents fo anyone that cares. E15.gif

Maybe since extended coverage/service does not need to be provided, the overall price of the pads can be reduced? And not all the DDR products are that bad, but I do admit there is a large number that are. The ebay sellers and normal vendors like RO/BNS ship their pads from overseas probably from the same factory with a different stamps of labels for each company disturb.gif These factories have to have a decent reputation for the many companies that sell DDR products... I'll agree that some of the ddr vendors on ebay lack additional knowledge of the product than whats already posted.

I have no clue how shipping works for ebay sellers... if they only pay the amount necessary to ship and keep the rest for profit? But in the end, I think I still save alot buying through ebay.

Hello, im new here and to ddr. A week ago today (wow feels longer) i got my copy of ddr and two generic soft pads. The soft pad makes it impossible to flawlessly hit some of the 1/8th beats. I am getting quite frustrated with the buttons sticking down on my carpet and i have been researching a metal pad. A cobalt Flux is out of the question so i have been looking at ebay. Does anyone know the quality of a pad like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=21188&item=8122946333&rd=1

I have around $150 to spend so please give me your suggestions.

Nice choice in pads.

You should look at the pad from the side and make sure that it is entirely flat and not curved at all. If it is curved, loosen the screws just about a quarter of a turn or so on the sides so that the pad is entirely flat. Sometimes the pads ship with the screws too tight. Also, go into the options menu and turn off controller and set it to dance pad (so that the corner buttons aren't accessible and mess things up).

Then you should be all set!

I have one, and it's pretty good. Not as good as something like a CF, but it's decent for it's price.

And if your parents have an extra $150, they can get you a MyMybox metal pad. biggrin.gif

It's very sturdy, so it probably last over a year.
