Not so much the players, but spectators in the arcade who stand close to the screen have taken my quarters/tokens before when I'm at an arcade where you have the option of placing them in one of those white plastic cup things. When I'm focused on the screen I can't see their hands move into it and take stuff.

I know what you mean. I hate when people stay right at the side of the screen. It makes me feel uncomfortable. Normally, my friends and I don't have to worry about this crap at my arcade because we've been coming there for a long time. There was never any trouble so we felt okay with leaving our stuff on the side of the machine til we were done until one day, my friend was playing a song when this girl took his cellphone off the machine when he wasn't looking. My friends and I helped him and got it back, now we are more cautious when we see someone who looks suspicious.

You can rephrase it anyway you want, but you're still saying that you think it's ok to pick all three songs.

Its funny that you say that. Something like that happened to me last saturday and it pissed me off so much because I couldn't do anything about. I was playing Ska a go go (a song I really can't pass). I got to the very end of the song and was about to pass it, but a skinny jerk behind (who I happened to know) started saying things like "who let the bannana picker play" (in case you didn't, its a racial slur against people from the Dominican Republic) or "get off my machine you stinky spic". It took 6 people to hold me back from nearly kicking the crap out of him, 4 more guys to convince me to let it go, and a security guard i knew to convince me not to go back to the machine. It pissed me off because I basically let him get away with it. And I failed. frown.gif

there isnt anything wrong with that...espeically if you're someone whos learning or just not as good as the person you're up against....just let the person know ahead of time ....depending on if that guy is an buttocks or not...theres no prob with taking the songs....i let ppl pick all the songs when i play them.

That works.
I just wouldn't want to find myself in a situation where I put in my credits, and then someone tells me, "btw, I'm gonna pick all the songs we play"

I was at Six Flags in Denver Colorado, and me and my little brother were playing DDR 3rd Mix... I think, but these people looked like they were around 16 or 17, kept on taunting my little brother like sayin OMFG that little kid sucks! and wow, look, it looks like he is a sped. he was just doing bad, come on everyone has a bad day once in a while. So I walked up to one of them gave him and asked why he was being an a** hole. I think that made him kinda mad, because I saw his fist clench and his muscles tighten, then I said, "are you gunna hit me or what"... then he let his gaurd down, sorta. I told him that he could make fun of my little brother all he wanted if he could beat him. The first song, Afronova, on Trick, my little brother killed him, he got a "B". I looked at the 16 or 17 yr old, and said look, theres one round down. Then I jumped in for my little brother for the second round, End Of The Century, on Maniac, I gotta A, the other guy gotta C on Trick, so I told him to f*** off... (probably wasnt the best thing to do) the last song was Dam Daram, my little bro did that, lol, he gotta D on it, I felt kinda bad, and the other guy gotta C. (but my little brother is 10)

dont you think that those teens were a little harsh on my brother? compair the ages 10 and 16 or 17...

I felt really bad... erm.gif

Have you guys got it bad. I live in Canada. Probably the worst abuse I've gotten is someone accidentaly knocking my coin off the line. laugh.gif

Anyways, come visit Canada, the land of people who don't treat each other like total trash! (And if you see someone in Vancouver who ALWAYS plays AM-3P and Spin The Disc on heavy, that's yours truly.

Yea, I know what you mean! I've only been to Canada a few times, but one of them was in 5th grade when I went to the Hockey Hall of Fame. There was this one game where you put on goalie pads and you stand in front of this camera and save shots against you which you see on the TV screen that's there. Well, these local kids that were there kept letting me play although they were there playing when I showed up. Everyone seems to be really patient and stuff, too.

Another time i was playing and sum @$$hole decided to jump up and shadow me for no reason at all...and then he left in the middle of the song...i kept my kool and didnt say anything cuz i found out l8r on hes a good friend of a friend of mine...otherwise i wuda chewed him out after the song wuz over

Yesterday I was playing the song Ecstacey on heavy, and on the part where the song stops for 5 seconds, I turned around, and this little kid like jumped all over the pad, and I didnt wanna be mean and push him off and his mom was standing there, so what do I do.... I am not racist either because I am white and he is black so if I ignored him, what would his mom do??? so I just told the kid he could play when I am done.

lol....

I'd say a better solution is if someone goes to a sng that you can't beat, tell them that you can't beat it. If they still won't change the song, switch to a lower difficulty. Courtesy denotes that you should give the other player at least a few moments to do this once you've decided on a song.

Not everybody thinks like that. When you let someone pick a song, there's a small chance they would turn to you and say "you wanna play this song?" You give them the chance to do the song THEY want to do. That's why I stopped playing with people I really don't know because most of the time, they just wanna do the same ole song over and over again.

I've had friends step on my arrows just to see me fail disgust.gif . I've also had them lift me off of the DDR pad (I'm only 98-ish) so I fail. Of course, when they lifted me off we were late for a movie, so I guess that was understandable... laugh.gif (I still wanted to finish my song though frown.gif )

First, the World Tour issue:

With all due respect, whoever said World Tour is 20 minutes long either has a messed up sense of time or just doesn't pay very much attention to the Oni timer. World Tour is 12 minutes and 41 seconds. The longest Oni is Demon Road at 15 minutes and 13 seconds. (Yes, I looked these up, because 20 minutes for 8 songs seemed very wrong to me). A 3-song + extra game can take anywhere between 5-10 minutes to finish, depending on how indecisive the player is on song selection.

There's nothing wrong with picking World Tour no matter how busy the arcade is. The fact is, the guy wants to play World Tour. Who are you to tell him what he should play? Why should be pay a dollar when his turn arrives, only to play three to five songs that he has absolutely no interest in playing, just so the people waiting can have their turn two minutes faster? More importantly, why should he care if anybody is impressed, or whether YOU'RE impressed? It's his money. If you want to dictate his mode and song choice, pay for his game and dictate away. If you're not willing to do that, then you have no right to tell him what he should do with his own money.

Next, the anger issue:

The people who swear at the machine, flip it off, or show overt anger in other ways (stomping) do so for a reason - they're FRUSTRATED, most likely for not performing up to their own standards. Who are you to judge them? I've done it plenty of times because I'm having a particularly horrible game, and no matter how impressive that A or B looks to the average gamer (or the Light/Standard player), it's absolute poopy to me if I know I can AA it or SDG it. If I can get 5 greats on a song and I get 45, you can be darn well sure that I'll be very upset with myself. The lower the great counts get, the worse it gets too. I draw the line at abusing the DDR machine, though - imo the guy who punched the screen should have his ankles broken so he can't play DDR.

Next, the song-picking issue:

Here's an idea. Before you agree to let someone else play with you, WORK OUT WHO PICKS WHAT SONGS AND HOW IT WORKS. If the terms are unacceptable, tell the other guy to get the hell off of the pad on your turn. How difficult is that? Not asking is like signing a contract you didn't read. If you get screwed, it's 100% your fault for not asking, no matter how rude it is.

Next, the 'showing up' issue:

If I'm a heavy player and I play after a light player, why the heck should I have to change what songs I play and what difficulty I play them on so someone else can feel better about themselves? Honestly, the other guy probably wasn't thinking about showing you up in the first place. I play what I want, on the difficulty that I want, and if some Light/Standard player has a problem with that then perhaps they should just get better. It sounds harsh, but why the hell should I let someone else's skill dictate what I play at any given time? I've played after plenty of Light/Standard players, and if they ask for advice I will give it to them freely. But I play on Heavy, all the time, and if they think I'm trying to show them up then I would tell them that they should stop being so self-important.

Finally, the annoying spectator issue:

Spectators who get on the pad without asking deserve to be shoved off. Kids who run on the pad deserve to get removed by physical force, no matter how young they are, and their parents deserve a hell of a tongue lashing. People who step on an arrow deserve to have their ankles broken to show them the potential consequences of their actions.

The bottom line goes something like this - I will play what I want, when I want, how I want, and I will react to my performance how I want, within reason; anybody who interferes with my game either owes me a buck or deserves a shove and a good tongue lashing. Why? Because it's MY MONEY. You want to tell me how to play the game? If you pay for my game, I will play all the 3 footers you want, one footed, knee dropping, 3x reverse sudden dark, whatever. If you don't, then don't think you can tell me what I should play. The only thing that I really agree with is the annoying spectator/kid thing - all the rest of it is just stuff that you should either have avoided in the first place, or stuff that you just need to suck up. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but that's the way it is.

okay so the other night i'm at a machine waiting for a turn. this little boy (no more than 9 or 10) is playing and doing pretty well on light. an older woman goes to these two kids also waiting to play (around my age, 17), she says, "he's really good!"

the two guys turn to eachother, scoffing and snickering, whispering and pointing to the poor kid who's doing just fine.

meanwhile i'm thinking "wow, you guys are sooo cool, thinking you're better and tougher than a freakin ten year old." it's like seriously, get your egos in check. it's a game. it was like two pro baseball players making fun of a t-ball player because he wasn't as good as them. pathetic.

later that night it's my turn, and this girl comes up and puts her quarters in after mine. now, i wouldn't have minded at all had she asked first. then she proceeded to pick the first song. that's never happened to me before. whenever i play with a stranger i either ask them or they ask me beforehand and everything's cool.

but whatever, heh. stuff happens. i'm not as bitter about it all as i sound, but at the time it was like "jeez, what a doggy".

something cool happened that night though. this one kid was playing and some typical random bumhole came up next to the machine and tried kicking his leg and pretending to dance to the music and all that typical random bumhole stuff (i'm sure most of you have been in the presence of one) and this dad who was watching with his family who was freakin' built came up to him and scared him off. heheh, it was pretty cool.
