Ok for all you music experts out there, I'm asking for your expertise! I'm making a CD with mostly Bemani music on it and it goes a little like this:

Vinyl Baby - Lovin' You (Rob Searle Club Mix)
Aurora - Ordinary World (Trance Remix)
Tenth Planet - Ghosts (Vincent De Moor Radio Edit)
Ian Van Dahl - Castles in the Sky (Radio Mix)
Svenson & Gielen - The Beauty of Silence (Original Mix)
Silvertear - So Deep (Wire Remix)
Cosmic Gate - Somewhere Over The Rainbow (Vocal Mix)
Ian Van Dahl - Reason
Missing Heart - Moonlight Shadow (New Vocal Version) (Long Version)
Lange feat. Skye - Drifting Away
DuMonde - Never Look Back (Radio Edit)
Cosmic Gate - Exploration of Space (Radio Edit)
Silvertear - So Deep (Original Mix)

The part I need help with is determining which of these aren't trance. I'm no expert at genres that's why I'm asking here. I still can add more so if anyone has any suggestions then please tell me. Thanks in advance!

Ah but the songs sound really different. And they're both awesome except the original mix is slightly more awesome.

I'm good w/ genres since my favorite music is electronica, which includes trance.

I never Moonlight Shadow before, but the rest of them are trance (some cheesier than others). I never knew they have Dumonde, Cosmic Gate and Svenson & Gielen tunes in the game.

I know that the Ordinary World by Aurora is trance, but really, is Aurora an actual artist? And you do know that Ordinary World is originally a Duran Duran song (same artist as The Reflex)? Sorry, just had to check.

trance music is my forte, cuz i dj and drop bombs at the k.c. clubs all the time. anyways, literally almost everything in DDR utilizes some form of trance theory...most GOOD trance songs follow the ADSR (attack, delay, sustain, release) chart for dj'ing...and i suppose you could say DDR in general was built on the backbone of this chart (Naoki, being the foreleading dj here, has it in practically all his songs). for specific songs..the trance that gets me the most is usually by an identity of naoki..naoki underground is one of the best; all of the songs by him are straight trance. vanity angel by fixx (naoki again) is also great. most songs by dj taka (one of my faves) are good trance...sync being the best, IMHO. of course, DDR has its fair share of good licensed trance songs...silvertear is great (silvertear is actually ian van dahl, btw)...dj alligator project...e-rotic back in the day...some captain jack songs...paul oakenfold (cheap loops, but trance nonetheless)...BT coming soon....dj sammy...DDR has lots. just look around and experiment, and you should come up with a great trance compilation cd.

btw, Silvertear (wire mix) isnt on the DDR Max soundtrack..i have every single one, and only the original mix appears on it. i only have the wire mix on a VERY VERY VERY RARE 12" vinyl that i use to spin at clubs.

Cosmic Gate is with Somewhere Over The Rainbow on MAX-Extreme, but Exploration of Space isn't. Dumonde's Never Look Back and Svenson & Gielen's The Beauty of Silence are both in BM IIDX 7th Style.

Ahem, Fly Through The Night is by Mr. T. You're thinking of Fly Away.

Vinyl Baby - Lovin' You (Rob Searle Club Mix)
Tenth Planet - Ghosts (Vincent De Moor Radio Edit)
Ian Van Dahl - Castles in the Sky (Radio Mix)
*Svenson & Gielen - The Beauty of Silence (Original Mix)
Silvertear - So Deep (Wire Remix)
Cosmic Gate - Somewhere Over The Rainbow (Vocal Mix)
*Ian Van Dahl - Reason
Lange feat. Skye - Drifting Away
*DuMonde - Never Look Back (Radio Edit)
*Cosmic Gate - Exploration of Space (Radio Edit)
*Silvertear - So Deep (Original Mix)

*Haven't heard it--don't know

But those are the songs of those that you listed that could be considered trance. If you want to get technical (and I'm sure about these two in particular), Ordinary World and Moonlight Shadow are "Epic House", and Ghosts and Drifting Away might be pushing House too...

I need to clear something up.

Very little of Naoki's stuff could be considered trance. Or I should say at least, very little of what carries Naoki's name could be considered trance.

Second, ADSR is a type of envelope used in synthesis. The general template for the flow of a DJ set is breakdown, build, groove. Unless you've got some seriously weird terminology out there. But I've never heard it in the midwest, east, or west.

Ordinary World was originally by Duran Duran. Aurora is probably the artist/group that did the remix. It's pretty common for Konami to put the name of the remixer as the artist on tracks as opposed to the name of the original artist. Usually on licenses, they don't do this. Ordinary World happens to be an exception.

Ghosts and Drifting Away are definately both firmly in the trance genre.

The one that I'd call questionable would be 4 Strings - Diving. It's on the fringes of trance, however, a lot of times the biggest remixes of a track determine how it's classified. For Diving, that remix would be Hiver & Hammer's Different Gear Remix, which makes the original mix look pathetic.

Anyway, to rehash what's said... the one's you listed are all trance, though IvD is cheesy as anything. So Deep is the major exception. ;-) DJ Sammy is also really, really high up on the cheese list.

As someone else said, you can't leave out The Shining Polaris. And also, ric - In My Eyes. Really cool track there as well.
