Simulator File Creation Help Thread

how do you create the file?
i have the song i want... but i can't make the actual file.

1. create a folder and put it in whatever mix folder you want
2. put the mp3 (optional background and banner images) into the folder and name the folder with the title of your song.
3. go into notepad (I'm going to assume you are using the stepmania editor) and go to "file->save as" and change the file type to "all files." then save save the file as "(whatever your songtitle is).dwi"
4. go into stepmania and use the editor to create your steps. if you want to use notepad for the whole thing, you'll have to read a tutorial on it. I haven't really found anything that can be done in notepad that I can't do in the stepmania editor though.

well... i got the notepad and tutorial
and i did some codeing and it is saved under .dwi
so... why won't it appear on the songwheel?

ok my comp is weird and when I go to save as and click the little drop down thing to choose what type of file to save it as, there is no selection that says "all files" someone help me please!!!

SYNC!! Ahhh!! OK i foujnd the instructions and whatnot to my usb controller. Its called KiKY [X.SERIES] PC USB ADAPTER FOR YOR PLAYSTATION GAME PAD.

Now i have been trying it on my comp with SM and havent used the cd that came with it to install it ROFL. So will attempt to install the game again via the minidisc that came with it and get back to ya.

ok this might be off topic, but i don't know. i'm planning on making a .dwi for a song from Chrono Cross. problem is, i don't have the slightest clue how to get the song from the game, then get the song onto my computer so i can begin making the stepfile. another problem: i don't know how to BEGIN making a stepfile. yes, i'm a noob (a mahor one at that), but i really want to get this song.

incase anyone is wondering, the song i'm trying to step is the song that plays to the movie that goes whenever you let the game sit at the "Press Start button" screen for a minute or so. if you have the game, start it up and let it sit at the "press start button" screen (don't actually start/resume a game!) and that is the song i want.

Well I posted this same question on page 7 but it was not answered. I'm wondering how to get my little .png icon to spin around on top of my banner when you're hovering over a song I made in SM. I made it smaller than one that was already up there so I know it's not too big, but it's just not showing up there. I'd like for anyone to help that can, thanks.

Hey guys, i'm having problems with my third sim.

There is about a 1-2 second part towards the end of the song where there are no notes, now after that part, I placed about 50 more arrows.

Butttt, it seems it is off sync (no, the BPM doesnt change) so if i mess with the offset at that part, the end chunk is perfect, but the first chunk is off sync.

How should i go about fixing this

well, how offsync are we talking? if it is only a little bit, then throw in a bpm freeze (only a very small one so people won't notice, and at the same time enough to throw the steps back in sync) or if it is bigger you might have to stick a tempo change in there. actually the problem with doing a tempo change is you'd have to have one set to speed up/slow down (I don't know if that part of the song is dragging or rushing) for short amount of time and then another one to put it back on the original BPM.

If there're any simfile makers out there using Mac OSX, then I need some help getting started. I made a starting .dwi file and an .mp3 in the .sm format, but they don't show up in the StepMania editor.

I need help on finding a very good BPM measuring tool. I currently use MixMeister BPM Analyzer, and it's been good to me for a while up until recently when it found the incorrect BPM of a song.

I have also been getting tired of it just measuring the song as a whole, becuase there may be speed changes that aren't just the main BPM cut in half, thus screwing it up.

So I'm looking for something where I can just test a certain part of the song or something along similar lines. But seeing as this forum topic hasn't been posted in in over a month, I don't expect immediate results

And I don't have the time nor the patience to come here every day looking to see if someone replied.

If anyone has the answer or knows where I can get the answer please just send me an e-mail to [email protected]

i finally finished my Stepmania song, but now when i goto play it it shows the song as if i edited it...how do i get rid of that and make it so it IS the original...? Thanks, any help is appreciated, i will be posting the song on a site soon.
