did you go into the control panel and look to see if your computer is receiving any input from the pad? that's what I was saying needed to be checked. if it isn't receiving any input from your pad, ps2 controller, or otherwise, you need to install the drivers that came with it. if that doesn't work, get the latest version of direct x. if that doesn't work, your adapter is "dead" in the sense that it is only transmiting power, not data.

i tried installing the drivers, but every time i tried to add a game pad that was reasonably close to a pad, it would give me some wierd error like "Game *something* or Game *something* inupt cannot find the specified divice. check your divice manager for trouble shooting help.

o_O?

I meant the driver disc that came with the adapter. you shouldn't be trying to create your own generic drivers for a usb device.

i did that. i wasn't trying to create my OWN setup, i had a list of things. choose a "6 button game pad", and it gave me that error. i tried several things from the list, and nothing worked. i even re-installed the drivers. i guess it might just be a dead adapter afterall... and i'm going to hawaii tomorrow (monday) so i can't send it back, either. dangit. RedOctane has a 30 day return policy, right?

you know what i just thought of? that kid on the banner in your sig looks kinda like me from behind at age 10 or so... wierd... (if that made sense)

not sure you get what I'm saying...you are trying to use the generic drivers that are on XP for a 6 button game pad. that is not what your usb device is. it should say something like "dual game controller," and it should require nothing from that list (as in it should be automatically recognized without having to select the device), the drivers should install from the floppy that came with it completely on their own after you run the wizard, requiring absolutely NO CONFIGURATION OF ANY KIND. no lists or anything. in fact, if you are using XP, the drivers shouldn't be required at all, but I was suggesting you install them from that floppy to see if that might by chance fix your problem.

PS USB adapters are 12 button gamepad devices anyway. if it isn't recognizing it, the adapter is faulty and needs to be returned. I don't know about redoctane's return policy, you'll have to figure that out for yourself.

and the kid in my sig is my 11 year old brother. it was a shot I took on my camera phone and edited in photoshop. he never saw the pic coming laugh.gif

EDIT: CHECK THE FAQ FOR AN IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT THE SUPER DUAL BOX

hmm... i'll try that. i uninstalled the drivers, and that made absolutely no difference than with the drivers, but i'll try re-installing them and looking for that. i didn't really know what i was looking for, so don't hurt me.

11 year old brother, eh? kinda scray how much we look alike from behind. i'll see if i can find a reference photo and you can make the comparison yourself. E1.gif if you want it, that is.

You probably could find an adapter in Hong Kong, since I think lik-sang is based there. You probably would in Japan too.

lik-sang ships from hong kong. I don't know where their physical location is...but you could see if they actually have a physical store and look for an address at http://www.lik-sang.com

I have a EMS USB2 version 2 (grey box, blue controller ports) and it works perfectly with my Cobalt Flux. No lag or timing issues at all.

system specs?

this is awesome news, as every report I've heard about cobalt fluxes says that they lag badly. I'd also like to know which version of the CF you have (I believe there are two, but I may be wrong...one has a button in the middle and the other does not from what I've heard).

thanks :0)

I have the V2 Cobalt Flux.
Not sure exactly what parts of my system you'd need to know, but I assume just these.
System:
Windows XP Home
Pentium 4 1.7 GHz
512 MB ram

And there are two versions. V1 and V2. V1 is no longer made, of course, because the V2 is it's superior. But like I said, I've had no problems with it at all. It works like a charm.

alrighty, and what about your usb ports? are they USB 2.0? I now am thinking that people who have been complaining about lag just have slow USB ports...

The EMS USB2 adapters don't actually use USB2.0, so whether or not his ports are USB wouldn't matter -- the adapter would use the same amount of bandwidth either way. Besides, USB 1.1's maximum bandwidth rate is more than enough to handle some dinky dancepad throughput. =)

I have a CF V1 and a BOOM converter from Lik-Sang (interestingly it seems to be listed as a non-working adapter in the sticky), and I have never had any delay problems at all. I'm using USB 1.1.

I don't know how different the connections are for the V1 and V2 (I know the V2 just has more inputs), but I doubt that it would make a difference since I actually have a V2 control box with a V1 adapter (had to replace it cause I screwed up the wires on my old one, and the V1 had gone out of production by that time).

well then I'm guessing lag is caused by the V1 control box, because most of the complaints with CF are 1. it lags and 2. the control box isn't recognized, which I'm guessing some adapters can recognize it and some can't. the ones that can have a lag.

now, with regards to the USB version, I was just curious, I wasn't suggesting that it actually had anything to do with anything.

also, which boom converter? there are two that don't work and one that does, but it's fairly hard to come by. if it is the super joy box 3, I've never gotten that one to work even though stepmania.com says it does. I like to put down which ones have worked for me personally. are there any special drivers you used?

if it is the PS Joy Converter, then that works with just about everything, even though I haven't made mention of it really...it's the first one listed on stepmania.com and there are no tricks to getting the thing to work. there isn't any need for me to explain the usage of a USB adapter when the instructions for use would amount to "plug it in...DONE!!" :0)

It is, in fact, the PS Joy Converter...it was the first on the adapter list, at least back in the day, and works now. The thing is, I never had lag issues when I had my V1 control box, nor did I ever have problems with the computer recognizing the CBox. Whatever, my setup works, so you should look into it nekura.

I'm too lazy to see if anyone's already mentioned this or to find out if anyone cares, but it appears Stepmania updated the section of their web-site pertaining to adapters. I'm also too lazy to list here the changes...go find out for yourself E13.gif E10.gif
