I am currently in the process of making my own dance pad as so many of you have done. I know this has probably been answered before but does anyone know the solder points on a regular sony psx controller? Here is a image if you need it.
Also, I have noticed that so several sites it is highly recommended to use a non-sony controller; should I buy one or should I be fine? |

Thanks for all the help. After reading through the first 30 pages of this topic I decided it would probably be easier to just ask rather than look through 70 more pages. |

For all you other new people (none of which will see this...) read the first page and a few of the MOST RECENT pages. That way you get the basic information and the most recent advanced (sort of) information.
And Tolookah, it's time to change your sig to read "Currently, help for Beatpad Pro, official Sony Playstation Controller and ANY controller unless you are extremely stupid or lazy." |

For 6 panel pads. what do you people use to separate the up arrow and the two diagonal arrows?Once I have this tidibit of information, ill be set to go.
Oh, one more thing can someone scan those arrow graphics that come with most third party pads(mymybox, redoctane, etc.)I don't like the ones that are available on this website. _________________

i just wanted to say that before i even thought of asking questions i first read, or at least looked at every of almost every post in this thread. Being a newbie i knew that there was a lot of info out there and a lot of stuff that i didnt know. Many of the questions i needed answered were answered may times, but the ones that werent i asked. I think that people need to read and put out some effort before asking a bunch of questions, because all the info is out there. |

Hey guys, got a question. Finished my pad today (DDR Homepad design, with a few mods), but get annoyed having to use the controller for start and O. I want to use some pushbutton switches, and would like any recomendations on which ones to use (preferably from Radioshack). Also, I used a cat5 cable, and it only has eight wires. 4 of those are grounds, but I was wondering if it would work to just use the grounds as the wires for the switches as long as they were wired correctly from the controller. Does anyone see any obvious problem with doing this? Thanks in advance, this board has elevated me from a DDR fanatic to a UBER-DDR FREAK! |

(left+right,up+down, only) why?!!!! i wired the arrows and buttons to a pelican chameleon....did i do anything wrong?!! | If it is an adapter problem I would highly reccommend making your own psx-printer port adapter. I'm assuming you already made your own pad and thus should have the soldering skills and tools. Only problem is you have to reinstall thel driver each boot to play (a directx 9 problem I think). Just timed myself- took 7 seconds so it's not a major detractor.
http://pupp.edgeemu.com/psx_control.htm is good except for ascii diagram.

this one is a translated page (bad english) with good pics so they complement each other |

moonmen0 - I salute you.
71custom - here's the thing. Each button needs to have one path going to the controller and one path going away from the controller to work (the electric current needs to make a circle). BUT you can combine all the grounds together and still have valid "circles" - in fact, that's what they do on the playstation controller. There is one ground that is connected to one side of each button, and the other side of each button is seperate (the "hot side"). This means that you can have up to 7 valid inputs for just an 8-wire ethernet cable. You cannot, however, make a valid button circuit with just one wire for each one.
IIIMUNKIII - I'm not sure what the problem is, but use another game or, simpler yet, a playstation -> computer adapter to make sure you have the wires connected to the right spots. |

I have a design for a 9-panel pad which uses the same plan as my 4-panel. You can see it here. _________________

If I understand you correctly, you want to use 7 of the wires for buttons and 1 wire for the ground from the eight wires? I think this is a good way to do the wiring for a pad that houses the circuit board in an external control box like sinistar's or controller like ddrhomepad's. However, you will want to use hook-up wire instead for the contact wiring because you will have to unravel the wire before you can use it. If you house the circuit board inside the pad, you should just use hook-up wire for all the contacts and circuit board and spare yourself the hassle of unraveling the phone cable. _________________

small random post....
just thought I'd post that I fixed my 'better' DDR pad (the thin one), and its near perfect now... tho its either short circuiting occasionally (need to check some of wiring) or the computer is just crap (which it is)... but the button accuracy is very very good (I used some rubber weather stripping in a few small places (including making the buttons doubly springy by having rubber 'under' the buttons too) and that seems to work perfectly). _________________
