Thanks vsamaco, that guide helps a lot. Now that I know how this thing actually works, I'm thinking about putting weather-stripping or phone-line around the arrows on the inside to help seperate it better. I dunno, I'll think of something.
I'm probably going to fix my pad using that guide then Plywood mod it. |

OK, I have a question. Does anyone else have the Deluxe Ignition 2.0 pad?
http://www.keepgaming.com/ddr/505-01054.htm
I got it off that site a few weeks ago along with MAX2, and when I play now it seems to be unresponsive and it'll register a step as a good when I know I hit it on time... |

It sounds like a problem with the foam in between the two contact system that registers a step. Check out this Ignition FAQ section about the a possible solution.
If you need additional instructions about dissecting your pad, check out soft pad repair website |

This is just disgusting.
I opened up my pad, following that guide. This is what I find inside:
The plastic contact sheets themselves had scuffs and wrinkles. The black plastic base of the pad had a huge horizontal fold with a tear in it (That I didn't even notice before.
Here's what I plan on doing:
1) Get new, thicker, heavier-duty foam. Cut holes in it as described in the Soft Pad repair site. Put that foam in the appropriate position.
2) Take aluminum foil or something similar, and cover the current contacts on the plastic sheets. Duct tape on the corners to hold it in place.
3) Use double-sided carpet tape and attach the pad to a 33"x33" plywood board.
4) Cover it with transparent floor covering, staple around the sides and duct tape the sides.
Does anyone have any suggestions or comments before I do this? Anyone else tried something similar? I'd rather not go buy new soft pads as I know I'd end up doing the same thing, and metal pads are way too expensive.
Thanks again~ |

Be careful with aluminum foil, because it can deform and hold a shape. You might try using double-sided tape to keep the foil flat against the circuit layer.
The repairs that you describe sound o.k. for a person with more time than money. If you have more money than time, buy new pads. Ignition pads (and especially pads with hard foam) will last a lot longer before the inner foam rips apart like it did in your soft pad.
BTW, I added a link to the soft pad repair guide in the FAQ. |

Double-sided tape for the foil sounds like it would be a good idea, I'll have to remember that. Isn't there a type of metallic tape that conducts electricity? That would be the best way to hold it on.
And yes, I have more time than money. Not old enough for a job, no school right now. |

I've never heard of such a thing, unfortunately. Even if you can find metallic tape, the adhesive usually isn't conductive. Conductive tape would be great because you could use it to repair broken wires. |

I just bought a RedOctane Ignition 2.0. Anything I need to know? What can I do to grip it to some thin rug? |

You may find that the pad's rubbery bottom keeps it in place well enough on your rug.
If it doesn't, you can tape the pad down to a board - either a piece of plywood with flexible spiky vinyl carpet protector stapled to the bottom, or a hard plastic spiky carpet protector like for rolling desk chairs. |

I was playing Overblast!! on Heavy and the pad moved about 1.5 inches.

Not an option. This is a rug my mom bought. |

Why isn't it an option? What kind of rug is this? |

I don't know...it's like...well, I don't know. Phooey. It's got small square indentations all over it (like, 100 a row, and there's a good 250 rows I suppose). |

And what is it about this rug that you can't put spiky carpet protector over it? Is it too nice to be having things poking into it? |

hey i just got a RO ignition pad 2.0 a/b 2 months ago and now sometimes when i play a song it will give random boos or almosts ( a/b 2 boos or almosts per song) everything seemd to be in good shape but if i hold the top sheet of the pad ( where all the circuits are) up to the light there is something in the middle near the top arrow. its kinda hard and makes kind of a bowl shape so it makes it uneven in the middle. can u tell me what may be wrong and how to fix it and also what the foam or w/e it might be in the middle and if it might affetc my pad? thnks _________________

Hey ppl, i just got my bns xtreme pads, this'll be the 4th day ive had em, ive lined the white plastic layer on the inside of the pad with duct tape, and taped them down to chair mats. How ever, the foam under the "raised" buttons has moved a bit (mostly on the right and left arrows (on both pads)). I play 6-8 foot songs, and the movment that has already occured has not affected my playing ability. any one out there got information on how to stop the inside foam from moving or how to get it back in place?*i have tried rubbing it back into place but that dosnt work well* all comments are appreciated. thanx.
P.S. i would also like to know if any one can tell me the life expectancy of these pads, 3 months?, 2 weeks?, 4 hours? lol |
