I've read throughout all of this and know you've answered questions pertaining to both of these, but I was curious about this comparison.

Between the Lik Sang Super Dual Box and the RedOctane Super Dual Box, do you know of any operating differences in them and if either of them has a better reputation or is said to work better than the other?

they are exactly the same adapter. it is a generic adapter, much like "q-tips" and "cotton swabs." a number of companies sell the "super dual box" under different names even though they were massed produced by the same company. I suggest you get it from redoctane though because it is in the country, while lik-sang is in china.

Oh noes! So many choices... drool.gif

Must...find...cheap...solution!

I think I'm gonna by one SmartJoy Plus to see, first of all, if it works, and second of all, if I can play with one pad hooked up to the BNS adapter and one hooked up to the SmartJoy Plus. Either way, I'll still be able to play singles if I need to riiight.gif

yeah, that's a good idea. would you happen to know of a site that has the drivers for the BNS parallel adapter? or should it just work fine using only joy2key? someone was asking about it earlier and they said they were having problems getting it configured with joy2key alone. I think the BNS adapter is one I should stick a picture of and some info about in the FAQ sometime...

Ok, I have an odd problem that I don't think has been addressed, and am hopeing someone here could help.

I bought a Smart Joy Plus, and it worked just fine with my original US Konami pad. Problem is, after a time my computer just spontaniously turns off, just like that. It's not something that happens with anything else, and the monitor doesn't flash or anything. Also, I probably dance -furthur- from ther computer than when I playon my PSX so it's not virabrations -- I have no idea what it is, and wondering if anyone has experianced it and knows a fix beyond a new pad/new adaptor/new computer. Thanks.

that falls under the section about "not staying in dance pad mode"

did you install the driver disk for it? I know I said it wasn't required, but that is just for most cases. sometimes it reverts back to its original driver settings. also, make sure your pad isn't missing a pin in the plug. that exact same thing used to happen to me all the time...at first it was a driver issue which went away. then it came back because my pad was damage. see if that works for you.

Assuming your OS supports it (if I remember correctly the newest version only works for XP and 2000, I think older versions will work on older versions of Windows, sorry Mac users, you get the shaft again), NTPad. There are links to it in the DDR Simulator FAQ.

Ah, hell, I'll even quote it:

DDR Simulator FAQ wrote:
*the BNS parallel converters work GREAT. http://www.aldostools.com/index2.html is where you can find drivers. NTpad for XP. Direct Pad pro for 98/me. To get the controller to work on DWI, u have to change the pad type to PSX LEFT (RIGHT) ANALOG. Doing this will make the axis' buttons.

I swear to Jebus I've read every last entry in this thread, and I must have missed my question somewhere, but here's the gist:

EMS USB2 (Yes, switched to "PC")
Windows XP
MyMyBox dance pad w/LEDs
Stepmania Alpha 20

Ok, here's my problem. When first plugging the adapter into the USB port, XP predictably detects and installs the appropriate drivers for it. I also understand that the disk that came with the adapter is unnecessary for SM.

The first time it installed itself, it worked without bug, even mapped itself accordingly. After relocating the computer and replugging the adapter, Stepmania (in the Test Input option) told me that every single directional button is being pressed. Except none are. It is also telling me that both pads (I only have one) are registering. When I go into "Game Controllers" in the control panel, it doesn't pick up any pad inputs there, either.

This same thing happened when I plugged the adapter into my other computer.

So, are we thinking return for same product, or is there any other advice you might be able to give me? Any and all help is appreciated.

-J

the guys at stepmania on the adapter page wrote:
Comments: Must set "Ignore Joy Axes" in Input Options to ON before configuring your joystick. A few shipments starting in July 2003 are incompatible with pads that have LEDs. This problem was corrected in mid-August 2003, and all new units are again compatible with most pads. See here and here for more info.
Some users are reporting that the latest version of this adapter does not work when using 2 pads at the same time. This is likely because of the high voltage requirements when using two pads. Beware.

might have something to do with the led lights. might also just be buggy. I don't think I've ever heard of that particular problem before though. odd...dunno what to tell you. if you can test it with a pad that doesn't have leds and it still doesn't work, get a new adapter.

http://img35.photobucket.com/albums/v105/shad0wzer0/Set111_01.jpg
From a friend, and I don't know if it even works...
Do any of you know of drivers or support, or even what the brand is?
It uses a 21 - pin serial port (or I think so, doesnt show up in the pics, and I cant count right XD)
Any help would be awesome.

did you set it to "ignore joy axis" in the options? did you actually go into the game controllers section of the control panel? I'm almost positive that ignition 2.0 works with USB adapters, though I haven't tested one myself. try testing it with a normal controller and see if you get any input. if you don't, you have a dead adapter. if you do, you either need to

1. turn on "ignore joy axis" and remap your pad
2. download a newer version of stepmania
3. could possibly be a voltage issue with the pad (unlikely), get a different pad.

edit: that was in reply to mooman...lemme read yours shad0wzer0 and I'll get back to you in a sec

I'm not sure if that's a BNS adapter, but you could try the NTPAD drivers. give it a try and let me know what happens.

i tried all of that, and nothing has happened. power gets to the controller/pad that i plug in (the LEDs light up on the pad, and the analog light turns on with PS2 controllers), so i don't think its a dead adaptor. i've tried the code, as i've mentioned, and nothing. i also tried downloading the 3.9 alpha. any suggestions there? i tried the input singal thingy, but i didn't get any response from pad or otherwise.
