ELITISTS!!! I FREAKING HATE CLASSLESS ELITISTS WITH A PASSION!!! (sorry for the caps)
1. Line-cutters who are damn good at the game. The problem is that everyone in the audience wants to see those players play (instead of a less-skilled player) and therefore support the line-cutters' decision to budge. As a result, we lesser players rarely get a chance to play.
It often gets to the point where I had to get the arcade manager to tell the other players that it's my turn next (really!).
2. Those who select a song that you just failed, solely for the sake of upstaging you and rubbing your defeat in your face.
***
Well, I guess that people like that are just so deeply insecure that they have to ruin everyone else's good time just to boost their ego. Generally, most expert players are very polite and courteous, and exercise class, but a few of the classless ones can give the rest a bad name. *shrugs*
End of rant,

See... competition is necessary for humans. Competition is healthy. Competition gives you a feeling of "need to get better." Sure you play for fun and people should not always play for competition, but you cant really hate people for making stuff seam like competitions. Then you'd just be having fun and people will get bored just looking at you have fun.
And youre an idiot for saying... Quote: | If you're one of those people who battle others for bragging rights, you need a REAL life | Yes... i called you an idiot. Please keep in mind that this is a civilized argument. Not a flame. |
Guess what? Name-calling isn't a "civilized argument." If you feel like you have to tell someone you're making a civilized argument, you're not. End of story.
To address your point, I think if you're sitting there bragging about who you've beaten in DDR, you do need a life. Nobody cares who you're better than at DDR. If I'm playing against someone on a hard song and they destroy the song (high AA or something), I'm happy for them. But if they started trying to rub it in my face or something, then I'd probably kick their ass. Doing stuff like that's just totally uneccessary. The only person you should be competing against in DDR is yourself.
Of course, the exception to this is if you're in a tournament. In a tournament, the entire environment is competition based. But at the arcade, people want to have fun. |

As a normal human being i have two options...
- To diss you and tell you how much of a wuss you are.
- To clarify the argument and apologize for namecalling and hope you do the same.
because im a christian i choose the second... you better thank religion.
Anyway, i beleive you were correct in me not being proper for calling you an idiot. I just wanted to add a humorous part to the whole reply... and i watched3 hours of nonestop family guy.
What i was trying to say was that if aiming for some friendly competition like "Aw man... i almost got you! Youre really good!" I dont find anything wrong with that but smack talking is definately not aceptable.
So the problem was a miscomception of what we called "competition" _________________

One thing about my arcade in particular that I hate:
I play on the 2p side, because the arrows are better (plus there's cool air from the AC on that side! <3). However, that side of the machine is pushed smack up against a driving game. It's reeeally annoying to be playing, and then feel someone squeeze past to get to the driving game. I can't tell you how many effing arrows I've missed because of that.
Other things I hate:
people who ask me for help, and then ignore my advice completely (!); things like "you really *don't* need to return to the centre after each step, really!".
song-killers. Argh. Especially if it was once a good song, but is no longer due to overplay. Like Matsuri Japan or Afronova.
people who "count the beat" for you, especially because 99% of the time they're offbeat anyway.
people who steal tokens off the token line - WTF, people. Quit stealing my tokens! And don't act surprised when I ask for my token back, because yes, I *was* watching you the whole time. Idiots. _________________

Bleh, don't get me started...
When kids put their feet on the bakc step jsut so you'll fall.
When kids try to wave porno magazines in front of your face to mess you up
When kids run in front of you and stand in front of the screen until you punch them and they try to get the manager on you
When kids get up and shadow you but try to look cool and not follow anything, and flail their arms into you
This was all in one night, this group of kids that don't like me. |

Song killers. My friend Lenah played Afronova so many damned times at the arcade the other day.
People who move your place marker just before your turn.
When using a token and someone else was also using a token and they claim your token is their's.
When little kids run around the machine screaming and yelling. _________________

There are a few things that anger me:
1) At our arcade, the machine is REALLY quiet. So quiet that you can here the Silent Scope attract over the top of it and if someone plays Drummania, which is like, 10 feet away, it drowns out DDR. The arcade owner says this is because they have to think of the cinema upstairs, to which I can only say ">_<". (It's got an odd pronounciation.)
2) Elitists who sneer at your high scores, especially when they come in "late". You've played 15 games in a row, you just did Paranoia Survivor, Max 300, Maxx Unlimited all in a row, so it's not a surprise you're too wasted to get anything better than a C on PSMO. However, they just love to rub it in about how much better they are at that song. Really annoying.
3) Street kids who keep asking for a stage, or worse, a complete go. It's MY money you urchins. I don't mind doing it once and a while, but when they do it every day, I have to wonder where their parents are.
4) People that think you play the Maxes just to show off. While I won't lie and say that I don't like a crowd to watch me, I actually play the Maxes for exercise. Max 300 is apparently the same as running 1/2km, so it's no surprise that I lost 110 lbs playing DDR. I have three types of DDR that I play: exercise, competition and fun. I don't play the Maxes unless I am doing the first as I am not big on shuffling my feet for fun. However, people come in and go on about how "he always does the Maxes" as if I don't play anything else. Come in on Saturday night and watch me have fun on Brilliant 2 U (Orchestra Mix) Standard and then tell me that I am obsessed with 10 footers.
Sorry if it seems arrogant, but I really hate people judging my performances outside of a competition. What happened to DDR being about having fun and enjoying yourself? _________________

Donutta, I totally agree with you dude.
But you should pull a "Thompson"(We call it that after a guy in Round Rock,TX)
Here's the story behind it: My friend Danny thompson was playing a mad set of the MAX Series on MAX2. Then some dude comes up and says, "I can beat your ______ anyday. You're just flashin' around!" Danny just gets right off the machine, right at the end of his song, gets that dude by the collar, the throws him onto the machine and says "Prove it". That guy was a total jerk. Not only was he BS-ing, HE SUCKED.
So all of you guys who think you're arrogant...think again. _________________

The people at my arcade don't really battle each other but I enjoy playing with other people. If I play with another heavy player that's really good it's cooler cause there are 2 players playin in unison on a hard song and lookin the same . That always gets crowds. But yea the people who jump on the other pad like a jackass are the real idiots. |

Yeah, it was. Especially since I was playing with a friend that was a girl and she couldn't see the humor in it. Neither could I, actually. |
