Is it easier at home or at the arcade?

I'm a newbie to the DDR scene (I suck ). I played it for the first time at my cousins' not too long ago and thought it was wicked fun, even though I was missing almost all the steps.
I was wondering, is it easier to learn it at the arcade? I figured the big metal pads would be better than using a little store bought one. The only problem is I'd have to practice alone, as no one I know is into it.And no, I can't ask my cousin, as she lives too far away.

overall it's harder at the arcade. crappy pads can make it really hard to play at home, but with a decent setup, it is always considered much easier at home. it's easier to get perfects on the home versions, and they give you AAs if you full combo the song, which is not always the case in the arcade. you really should learn to play in the arcade if you can though. the added difficulty makes you a better player in the end.

Maybe if I go to the mall early, no one will be in the arcade and I won't feel bad about screwing up.
