Not quite. DDR in reference to Germany does stand for Deutsche Democratic Republic (or Deutsche Demokratische Republik if you want the original German) but that was the name for old East Germany. Back during the days of the Communist red scare and all that, when the Berlin Wall was still around, Germany was divided into two separate, um, Germanies?

DDR also stands for Double Data Rate, a type of RAM used on computers and video cards, which some people don't like for reasons I can't really pinpoint.
