Okay, well, I don't have many experiences since I don't go to the arcade much but I was there for a few hours one time. Mind you, this was a while ago, back when I was on 3-footers (april, I'm on 6-footers now) and I'd been on the machine for 15 minutes and I'm playing Absolute (dj TAKA). This 20-something year old big guy comes up after I'm done (I'm 13, folks) and he plays a game on heavy I believe. And I'm sitting here trying to find an easy light song, since this was the first month I was getting into DDR. This guy is making my puny game look like sh1t (which i wasn't angry about, since I do that to other players now ) and when he's done he says "You wanna split one?". As in, versus mode.
Oh, the nerve. This guy knows I suck, so why is he asking to take me on? I figured he was plotting the demise of my ego so I exited stage left with a "I would, but I've only been playing for about a week and I'm not that good" line.
So the dude proceeds to play another game. And I'm like "wtf." But then he leaves and no one comes to play for the next 3 hours. Yay for Biske. There are like, no effin' players in Columbus. (Ohio) It's insane. I go to one of maybe 5 locations in the city and it's rare to see another person get up there and go with it. Besides me and my friend Ally, that is.
No wonder I can do 5 foot songs and attract a huge-arse crowd. No wonder I can attract a crowd if I can play a 3 foot song or higher. X__X
I don't cuss (when I'm playing at least xD) or flip anything off, I'm damn courteous. but people forever ask me how the hell I play or even once, they wanted their kid *who had never played before EVER* to play versus against me. Uh. no, lady. ><;; _________________

I just wanted to point out that you seem to have COMPLETELY misunderstood the player's intentions. Asking someone to split a game is simply a way of not having to wait in line for as long. Although it's called versus mode, it can't really be a competition unless both players want it to be. I play with people of far lower skill level than me, and I find that a lot of the time, they get a lot out of it because I can pass songs they can't, so they get to practice parts of the song that would otherwise be impossible to get to. In addition, they don't have to worry about losing their money because I'm not going to fail.
As for obnoxious DDR players, I haven't had to deal with many here in CO...all of the regulars to the arcades are awesome, and the remainder tend to get scared away when a large group of us roll up . There was one player I saw trying to imitate DJ 8-Ball by using a cane while he played...the cracking sound it made everytime it hit the panel made me want to kill him. That's probably the worst I've ever gotten. _________________

That's probably the worst I've ever gotten. | AH. Indeed, you are right, compadre. But it would've been a bit embarassing on my part, because this guy was really good. And I mainly just wanted to play on my own and get some practice in. I generally only like to play versus with people somewhere in my vicinity, only because no one gets humiliated or embarassed because the other guy's better. So there's really no competition that way because you're both on the same level. We're not masochists here, and the people we play against generally aren't either.
Also, I'm sure you might be used to having a line to play DDR where you live, but here, it's a dead zone. People don't play versus to cut the wait, because there virtually is no wait. that's why I was a tad suspicious of his reasons behind confrontation. It was only gonna be another 5 minutes before I got the machine to myself again for the next few hours, so why not just let me wait it out? Also, this was the time when I was just starting out, so I was very self-conscious about my skills as well as my interaction with other players..nowadays, I'd definitely be a bit more open and a bit less sheltered. Also, considering my age, I'm one of the younger DDR players around (not that there are many X__X) and I've had many a pro want to play, and in turn, squash me, for the pure, conceited, glory of it, unfortunately. _________________

Man, this one time I was playing double, and I was on the left side for like a second, and this random ass little kid comes running on the other side causing me to fall over him, hurt my ankle, and of course, I failed the song. The kid's mom starts yelling at me telling me "didn't you see my son there!?" I replied "Look bitch, you should have been watching him instead of letting him run all over the place. He damn near broke my ankle!" And just like any parent, they have to defend their children. So she says he's just a kid, how can he do that, and all that jazz. Now I'm getting upset. She said "He was on the side that wasn't being used, and you ran him over. You couldn't have been using both sides. You can only use one side." Obviously, she was ignorant to the game, so as calmly as I could I tried to explain to her about the "double" mode. And since she was stubborn AND ignorant to the game, she didn't believe it, called mall security, told her story, security came up to me asking for my side, told them my side, they believed me since I had the sore ankle to prove it, told her to leave, then she called the police! It was a very interesting day... |
I'm sorry but I would have cursed that lady out, called her a b!tch a million times then took her to court for neglagence. She would have ended up paying my doctor bills. Then, I would have turned the police against her. And this is all because she was a stupid and neglegent parent who didn't know any better to begin with. I bet she would have let her kid wonder in the street and get hit by a car and would have blamed the driver just so that she could shift the blame onto that person.
People do stupid things like that these days.

i play at the century 3 mall in pittsburgh, and alot of times people ask if they can play against me, and of course i say yes...but a few times ive been playing against some random person and i was winning and they would just push me off the pad so they would be able to win. one of the times that happened they pushed me into a nearby car racing game and my lip got completely cut open from hitting the metal part below the seat. and there have been a few times that i have been playing by myself and people have just pushed me off and played my game the rest of the way out. its really annoying. i mean just because im a girl and im pretty damn short doesn't mean u can just push me off. its really irritating. especially when people come up behind me and say "you suck" and use a few racial slurs such as "spic" and "wetback" ive almost completely given up playing at the mall anymore. _________________

Well, I did try to impress the crowd quite a bit, kinda like a show off once. I never did it again. Anyhow there are people who just play with other people and instantly choose really hard songs to get themselves and the other guy to fail so their best friend can get on quicker. Thats why I never play with people unless I know them from school or home or other places.
And ummm Deathcab? thats very funny because I play that way all the time with my friends. We sweep eachother. Throw punches at eachother. Most of the time theyre completly off target because were focusing on arrows. (we all play on heavy if we do that) Of course your situation is diffrent because it was a random person. Hence, well, I dunno....in my situation since I am big for my age I would beat the daylights out of them but, heh, I dunno...
Anyhow yeah I those little kids must really suck! I only play at like 8 at night so none are really around

Today I felt like practicing a few songs I can stealth, so I would use mirror and 8x (I'll admit I like to show off, but I find nothing wrong with it). There is this employee that operates a virtual ride about 8 feet away from the machine. It's obvious that this jackas.s doesn't like me, he's nice to everyone BUT me. He always passes by giving me dirty looks. Thoughout my whole game, he's chanting "Stop showing off!" At first I didn't mind, so I ignored him. Once I get to my last song, I pick Legend of Max heavy mirror,8x to piss him off. Later on, he comes to the side of my pad and starts stepping on the left arrow panel trying to make me f.uck up. Once he realized my combo kept going, he went back to chanting. All the other children that were watching were finally convinced that he's cool, so they all joined in. It was so loud with the background noise from their screaming, the other summer camp kids' screaming, besides the machine volume was low. By the time I got to the freeze arrow pause, I was too tired, deaf, and pissed, so I just walked off. I would expect a child to step on my pad, but not a full grown man that works at an arcade.
Like I said earlier, I hate people... _________________

Me and my friends were playing ddr and these group of kids, about our age. Began laughing and saying how retarded we look, and other smack talk. So after my session ended, me and my friends came over to them and taught them a lesson, and make them sing campfire songs like little school girls. _________________

Damn gurl, you need some bodyguards with you. Those people are taking your turns and money. You shouldn't act like a little mouse. Try playing with a group of friends. See what those strangers could do now!!! _________________

yeah i know i do need body guards but i almost all my friends gave upplaying at the mall with me because of the racial comments we get and how people are very ignorant to us. i did try to push this one guy back off of the pad once he pushed me off but he picked me up and and pushed me against the wall and said back off wetback. i hate people in pittsburgh, i dont know why but they are soo racist against mexicans. and its really sad to see how mean they are to me and my friends and other people who are/look hispanic. _________________

DeathCab, what the hell is wrong with the people at your mall? You got you lip split because you got pushed off the machine? Damn, if I was some random guy walking around and saw some guy do that to a chick, I would totally have to f.uck him up. Mall security doesn't do anything about this? _________________

Oh my god... I think this pretty much tops everything anyone has said in this thread. That's INSANE. You should press charges against that guy that broke your lip.. AND YOU'RE A GIRL!?
Wow. That's abuse. Where's the manager or something? _________________

Ohhh boy. I have the tourists. XD Heh.
Well, where I'm at, no one plays DDR. Really, no one. The machine? It's MINE. The only other people who play it other than me are...yep, the tourists.
So of course, the concept of people putting their quarters on the machine while waiting to play is TOTALLY new to me, right?
Well of course. One day I'm playing light mode, and in typical girl-who-sucks-and-is-new-at-DDR-and-gets-showed-up-by-some-veteran fashion... some guy walks up behind me and, yep, stacks his quarters on the screen.
Confused me just keeps on playing...until, of course, he says (at the end of my turn) "Um, excuse me, but it's my turn now?"
Being nice, I hopped off...but then, you know, he had to go on heavy mode and show me up very, very badly. (As my boyfriend said "HAHA! YOU GOT SERVED!" -_-) and I was very, very frustrated.
He's gone this week...but you know, having that happen is not a usual experience for me XD So if you come to kitty hawk, play nice...because DDRExtreme is my machine O_O; heh.
(end pointless and seemingly irrelevant story) |

of course the manager of the arcade doesnt do anything, when i got my lip split open he just sat there and told me it was my fault for falling into it. and talking to mall security doesnt help because the manager stands up for the guys who pick on me and my friends and such. guess the manager is racist too. i dont know but someone SHOULD come and be my body guard or something!!! _________________

I encountered my first rude DDR player at Anthrocon this year. Of all places. feh. anyway, I'd been out of practice and stayed down to 6-7 footers rather than my usualy 8-9 and this guy was tearing up next to me on the hardest songs he could pull out, only to try the whole "told you i'd waste ya'" thing. Very mature. (sarcasm) especially in front of friends of mine (notto mention my GF. Though... none of them cared anyway. so if you're reading this, mean guy, Your act did nothing for your status or against my esteem so bite yourself. |
