Yeah. Im Not Sure How Someone Can Define "Proper" Freestyle, Especially Since Freestyle, Is, Well What Ever You Want It To Be. There s No Proper Or Inproper Freestyle. If You're Doing more Then Just Hitting The Notes, You're Doing Freestyle, No Matter What Exactly You Happen To Be Doing.

The way I see it is very simple: as far as competition goes, you need to be original. You need to do something that hasn't been done. That, I can understand. But when you have a crowd around the machine while "casually" playing, I don't see why people would be so uptight as to label kneedrops/handslaps as [lame/ghey/stupid/degrading qualificative]. Elitism, maybe? I cannot tell, but in my view, this kind of stereotype isn't excusable just because it comes from the "better, more experienced" players. Just like any other stereotype, it is ridiculous.

But hey... that's just my opinion! Take it or leave it.

Too many people believe that DDR is a game that's just "fun" it's not just fun...it requires a lot of physical endurance and skill to go on heavy or whatnot.

I play sports and I'm still not fit enough to play DDR 30 minutes straight.

That is not a matter of stereotype; that is a matter of opinions. Two different things.

Alot of DDR stereotypes, I have found, come from 2 sources:

1) People who have tried to play at some point, but failed miserably.

2) People who don't understand the game and need it explained to them by some noob who can't even clear Dam Dariram beginner mode, but still manages to draw a crowd of 50 people.. disgust.gif

I'm not Yasu, but I can still pass some 9 footers, I've managed to pass SSLM and MSL, and never shadow, or interfere while someones playing. Like, one guy was like "May I play by myself?" and I was like "fine" I could tell he was a little suprised that I didn't complain. It was fun watching cause I got to see him do bag on flat. That was cool.

I'm 13 and I get that crap all the time....><;;

~Girls can't play as well as guys do.

Give me a break. My DDR team consists of 5 or more girls. *lost count ><;;* and a least 3 of us could kill any guy we know on DDR.

Sure, more guys play than girls.

SEEMINGLY. I could ramble on all day about all the girls I know who play DDR, although I can name a few guys who we tried to get to play DDR, I can't name more than one who can actually play decently off the top of my head. And I'm friends with alot of guys.

A stereotype for DDR...

One of the major one's that piss me off is that people tend to think that anyone who play's DDR is a homosexual. Every male who has ever played this game know's what i'm talking about.

Avoid these assholes if you can.
Ignorant Person: A guy playing a dancing game in a arcade...must be gay. frust.gif

Stereotypes of non-players
1) Only asians play.
2) Playing DDR is ghey.
3) DDR players have no social life and like anime.

Stereotypes of players
1) Black people play Stomp to my Beat and can't PA.
2) Anyone who plays Butterfly, It's Raining Men, or Love <3 Shine is ghey.
3) Anyone who ever plays light/standard is a noob.
4) Girls and DDR (there are so many of these, it's ridiculous)
5) Age matters (young = immature)

*applauds* That actually sums everything up right there. Although I daresay I fit into the lack-of-life-anime-worshipper category.. riiight.gif

That girls play just so the guys can watch them bounce. Mhmm.. that's why I cross my arms across my chest, keeping it down, so the guys can see...
That girls only play the poppy cute songs. Okay, so I do play a lot of the bouncy ones, like Love <3 Shine and www.BlondeGirl, but I also play R3, Sakura, and Afronova.
I'm slightly miffed about the "All guys who play must be gay" cause I tend to date "DDR Boys". I played in front of my dad for the first time a few months back and he was all "I saw you bouncing on that thing. Are you sure the guys you play with aren't gay?" (I had played Exotic Ethnic, R3, and Sakura... I bounced??) He shut up when I went, "Daddy, I know they aren't gay. Now, will you be quiet so I can concentrate on this, or do you want to try?"

Hmmmmmm........Bounce!!!!! drool.gif drool.gif

That's part of the reason I like to watch women play.

ON TOPIC*** riiight.gif riiight.gif

The worst stereotype is that DDR teaches you to dance, and that if you play DDR you are dancing. Gimme a F******* break. That has got to be the biggest load sh!t I've ever heard.

I have that advantage as well...Not that I'm skinny, I'm fairly average but, uh...let's just say guys stare at me only when I'm playing versus against my..uh.."bigger" friend...=.=;;; Who is taller and..uh..more developed, if you will,...than myself. riiight.gif

i hate guys that watch me play because i do have big boobs, so usually i also fold my arms over my chest. and then they say stuff like "how are you good at this game i didnt think they had DDR in mexico" and ive heard this with a few of my friends too. me and my friends are mexican, and alot of people say we suck at DDR because we are mexican and we are too stupid and fat to play and stuff. i dont know if anyone else has experienced that but we have ALOT here.

I guess I hate when they assume that I can't play because I'm a girl. I think I call attention to myself period by the way I dress (and stepping on the machine in anything that isn't converse you get stared at too and possibly the being black thing) but it's still kind of rude. Hmm they do assume that asians always have to know how to play too. I haven't seen that many asians play. I guess since where I go it's mostly hispanic people so. . .

Actually, I love it when people put anti-DDR flashes on Newgrounds. Most NG members are DDR fans, so when someone submits a new anti-DDR movie, it's like giving us a free blam point. biggrin.gif
