I'm just stating my opinion. How you take it is entirely up to you. I'm not going to sit here and say one person is wrong, and another is right, because it is entirely OPINIONS.
I was just stating my opinion on your opinion. But out of curiosity, do you play with other people if they are playing, or do you only play by yourself?
Reason I ask being, if you play by yourself, then you don't have to deal wiht people throwing you off. But what if you're playing with someone who is trying to get better, say playing Sakura on Heavy for the first time. Maybe you can do it, but maybe she/he can't. They might be offbeat, which would still throw you off. _________________

First off, you're not just simply stating your opinion, you are forcing your opinion onto mine, and you shouldn't do that. Second, I usually play by myself unless someone asks me to play with them, and it's usually people who are around my same level or better. Once in a blue moon, players on a lower level ask me to help them out, and that's fine with me. Last, I don't know if you know this, but people who are "good" don't need to shadow, and the ones that are not so good should at least ask first before jumping on and shadowing because you're doing a song they can't pass. That is very rude. _________________

Moving on to the part where you actually answered the question... Thanks for answering. (I have no mean's of agruing it, I was just wondering).
And just because a player is "good" doesn't mean they can't shadow.
Around here, I'm considered a "good" DDR player. I play usually on heavy, only a few songs(10 footers) that I can't pass yet. I still shadow, because it's still fun.
And yes, I agree, people should ask before they jump on and shadow.
Again, thanks for your input. _________________

I don't like people shadowing me... usually they are off beat... and then there's the shadow who wants to prove he's better than the one who paid for the credit...
I don't care for a shadow if he asks first... I usually say no, but every now and then I agree... but most people here just jump in the pad in the middle of a song _________________

In my opinion, it's a good way to work out technical problems without risking a failed game - as long as you're not messing up the other person, I don't see how it would be a problem. |
It could be a problem if the player is trying to score as minimum greats as possible in a full combo. Sometimes the shadowing person could be off-beat, which could cause the player to lose a little bit of focus. This is very annoying to some, like myself.
(Especially when someone else can't stay on beat during MAX 300; things start to sound like a friggin machine gun went off...)
...so that's why I always stress asking before the song is played to shadow. Don't just get up there. We aren't psychic, so we don't know what the player's particular aim is with the next song.
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind shadowing. I'm very tolerable. But common courtesy should be stressed when it comes to that kind of thing. |
Ahem...

However, I have no problem, provided they A: ask, B: keep on beat (I don't care what notes they're hitting, but they'd better be on beat), and C: stop when/if I ask them to (usually if they're throwing me off).

I think you're trying to disagree with someone who agrees with you. |
lol.
Holy crap I didn't read the last sentence thoroughly. I thought you said there couldn't be a problem with shadowing. My bad. |

Man, you post just spoke nothing but the truth!!!
If you are good why do you need to shadow. I find it annoying and irrelavent to the whole learning process behind playing DDR. But if that is what it will take for you then shadow till your shadow is shadowing you.

Personally, If Someone Wants To Shadow Me, Go Nuts. If Its To Try And make Fun Of Me Or Purposely Try And Distract Me, Then They Usually Regret It Once Im Done. Other Than That, Im Pretty Tough To Distract So I Could Care Less. |

Most of the time, I don't mind it if someone shadows me, but sometimes the extra sound of someone stepping distracts me, and makes it harder for me to concentrate. And I think it's pointless because you don't know if you're getting the steps right when shadowing. I guess it would be good if it's a song you haven't done before and want to see how hard it is, but if you already know it and are just doing it as if you were playing, then I think it's dumb. Why not just play? I'd rather play than shadow.
In fact, last night I played at the local theater. This dude asked me if he could shadow me and I didn't care. However, I ended up getting a B on Break Down on Standard when I probably could have A'd or AA'd it. One thing that I found that works quite well with getting people to stop shadowing you is to do a song that you know they can't do. Next song I did was Maxx Unlimited. After about 10 seconds, the guy quit shadowing. _________________

At least he didn't keep trying by randomly stomping and messing you up. _________________

Pretty basic for me...
You can shadow (with me) if you don't try to act all "bad" "cool" in front of your friends/significant other by trying to distract the other player. So what if your are broke and just want to shadow? Not a problem if you just respect the other player.... _________________

Unfortunately, in order to get some practice in at People's Plaza you have to Shadow because the second pad is broken. (The censor is dead on the up arrow) so if someone wants to play with you they have no choice but to shadow unless they don't mind seeing the constant misses on the screen. But if the circumstances were normal, I wouldn't care if you'd shadow me, and I'm very hard to distract, even with people yelling. I concentrate hard. |

I don't care if people shadow as long as they're either on the other pad, like a player would be, or behind me. Sometimes I'll get those people who get right up next to the screen and shadow three steps then screw up and stop then try again, etc. That just makes me mad. I can hear them stomping their hearts out way off beat and it just screws me up. One kid actually had the nerve to jump onto the empty pad mid song and just start flailing all over the place (probably trying to make fun of me). I was playing Waka Laka and I move my arms a lot to help me with the stream full of step jumps in the middle so I used that as my oppurtunity to make it abundantly clear I wasn't happy. I have to say it worked rather well. A few times people shadowing have slowly moved towards my pad and end up getting their foot stomped. |

People can shadow me without asking I don't mind , but if I tell them to stop , they better stop. As far as me shadowing others , yeah I shadow people while waiting for my turn , or just because they're playing a song I like. But I always ask first. |

I don't like people shadowing me. I'm not so good when it comes to putting up with distractions while I am playing DDR, and everyone who has ever shadowed me has been rather obnoxious. No more shadowing. _________________
