Ive seen all these gta style games come out. like true crime and tony hawk underground. i had an idea for a game like that except its DDR. you connect a regular controller in the first controller slot and a pad in the second. the goal of the game is to become the worlds top DDR player.
you go around and earn money and complete missions through the game. the cool thing is you can run around and practice on machines in arcades around the city youre in with the money youve earned. you could even play any machine as long as its in the game. on most missions, you battle other players(computer) on the pad.
i just want to see what other ppl think.
i havent read all posts so i hope this hasnt been posted and i hope this wont be locked. _________________

Its kind of like my Giant Trackball Controller idea....
well maybe its nothing like it...
well, I think it COULD be a decent game... but there would be a huge lack of worthwhileness... I think i'd sooner put in DDRMAX than have to walk to the DDRMAX machine... ya know? _________________

youre right about that. but the thing is you could play many of the ddr games out there, not just MAX. also, there could be computer challengers, i dont think theyve made those yet. _________________

You got me there, but theres all sorts of games based on "Real Life".
This would actually be one that works you out,
unlike tony hawk, matt hoffman, some roller blader, etc. _________________

i like the idea. the only real question is what kind of missions would you be doing to earn cash? it would be cool if you could use your dance mat in the missions to earn the cash. _________________

I already did a thread like this a few months back, except my version was more anime-like in its style. _________________

I dunno, I don't think this would work for a couple reasons. First Injecting GTA-style play into games doesn't always work. It'd be very easy to screw up something like this, and I think more than anything it'd just add a very tedious quality to the game. Maybe you've got a different idea, but here's what I'm imagining:
"Mission: You want to enter a DDR tournament! But you suck! You need to get the home versions! First, you need to get some money! (Not sure how this would be done) Then go to the store and buy a pad and some games!" To me, that just doesn't sound fun. DDR is such a simple concept; throwing something like this into the formula would just add unnecessary complication to it. The other problem is the idea of giving someone many different mixes in one game. I don't really think Konami would be too eager to give consumers a bunch of different mixes in one game, as they'd rather include a handful of songs from older games so people keep buying them.
To the idea's credit, a CPU battle mode does sound interesting. Kind of adding a Puzzle Fighter-esque element to things. And if it was an interesting battle mode, with like, items and such that screwed your opponent up, that would be sweet. But I think I'd rather see that as just an addition to the main game series. |

It could be a cool idea... Though, it would need alot of work, and a good storyline to work off of to keep interest. At least, one besides "Dance to get money" _________________

Wait...let me get this straight...you'd rather play a game where you play DDR...then play DDR? _________________

im not sure how missions would work, maybe you go and rendezvous with ppl or somehow unlock songs. its true that it would need a certain amount of songs. maybe some new ones and old ones that could somehow be unlocked during the game.
if it did somehow come out, i think it would be targeted to smaller kids or n00bs. im guessing a pro would zoom past the game too easily.
also, the money thing is kind of wierd. thats also why im asking other ppl.
how about when you go to the arcades you unlock songs there?
outside the game, what if it was sold WITH a metal pad!?!
EDIT: GOOD MISSION IDEA!
hows about a mission where maybe you have to retrieve some thing from some guy FOR some guy and the only way get it is to beat some hella hard songs against hella hard computers _________________

i've been thinking about that too, but[quote="Kunio573"] Maxx 999 wrote: | "Mission: You want to enter a DDR tournament! But you suck! You need to get the home versions! (Not sure how this would be done) Then go to the store and buy a pad and some games!" | maybe the sucking part would'nt be true... unlike the tony hawk games where you have to build up your stats to get better, you don't really have stats like that in real life. of course thug has a difficulty range too. i guess you could just choose beg. through heavy as a difficulty choice and then play the whole story mode like that. _________________

This idea is dumb. Like, really dumb. There's no need to inject Arrow Stomp with any gameplay mechanics more complex than stomping arrows. You want to add more modes within those confines? Rock. Maybe earn money/experience to unlock new modes? Cool. Tack on a superfluous platformer interface? No thanks. _________________

Er, um, wow. Include a metal pad with the game? To me, that strikes me as a very bad idea from a business standpoint. If they do that, they'd then either have to jack the price up to $150+, or sell it at a loss for a cheaper price. There's always the idea of making two separate editions, one with pad, one without as Konami has done in the past.
However, the main thing is this still just doesn't sound fun to me. Would this game have a story? If it did, would it have plot advancement sequences? If I have to turn on the game and go through a 5, 10, 15 minute plot advancement sequence to play DDR, I'd rather just stick DDR in my PS2. If you decide to make it so there's no story or as little as possible, then it becomes a question of why even bother changing the gameplay structure to begin with?
If I'm coming across as nasty, I apologize. I don't mean it that way. Really, I'm all for something new in DDR. New modes, new gameplay mods, something. I don't know what can be done, though, as a lot it's already been tried. DDR+Karaoke? Tried it (there's a thread somewhere about it). DDR+Beatmania (1 person's the DJ while other people dance)? Tried that, too. Beatmania IIDX Substream linked up to I think DDR 2nd Mix so people could play songs simultaneously on the two machines. Such a feature hasn't been seen since, though. Beyond that, I can't see combining DDR with other video game genres as sensible step for the series. DDR+Sports? How would that work out? DDR+Platformers? Umm, no thank you. DDR+RPGs? They kinda already did that with Ephemeral Fantasia for PS2, which combined RPGs and Guitar Freaks, of all things. CPU battles sound like a good idea. However, if you're going to add CPU battles to the game, just add it to DDR. It seems completely unnecessary to add NPCs and other such GTA-like elements. |

All things considered, I'd rather not having programming time and disk space devoted to some kind of new in-game plot or environment. Just give me more straight DDR content. Fill up the whole DVD with songs and videos. Heck, based on what I've seen with Stepmania, they could put over 2000 songs on a DVD if they wanted to. Why stop at just 80 or 90? |

What they really need to do is just make some kind of special edition, maybe having all the songs throughout the series, and then some. But most of all, they need to have more internet support, both PS2 and X-Box have Hard Drive support, so why can't they offer more in the area of downloads! I've heard the X-Box has somethin like that, but it costs $$$, and after buying a cobalt flux, I sure as hell don't have any. And most of all, they need ONLINE VS!!! This could kinda go towards your idea of wandering around, but just have some lobbys, and we could all have our own avatars, THUG had a great idea with putting your face on your game character, who's to say you couldn't do it for DDR? This could really be a takeoff for DDR, maybe get some online teams, it would put rise to more big names in the game if they put in some kind of online league. Am I crazy? Or could it work? _________________

a little more than half of you dont like the idea that you would have to walk around just for a ddr machine. but if you dont want to look for one in the game, by all means, just play your DDRMAX. the story mode thing is for ppl who want something more than just choose your song and "dance".
and at the very least, the computer challenger thing is a good idea, right? _________________

It depends, the computer couldn't just give itself random greats and boo's to let you have a chance at winning. It would have to take into account difficult step patterns like or simulate being tired if you're doing a tournament with a large number of songs. |
