What are some DDR stereotypes that piss you off?

- Short people can't play DDR. I'm 10, and I'm like a shrimp for my age, yet I can still pass CSFILSM on Heavy with a B.

- White people who are good at DDR= wapanese otaku. Seriously, it's not like all white Heavy playes have the full series DVD of FLCL or have various Chobits episodes downloaded all over our PC's and never watch them then get off our butt then just go to the arcade and act like we know everything about anime.

- Only azn's can be good at DDR. This one annoys me the most. 'nuff said.

- DDR players always eat junkfood. I eat pasta most of the time thankyouverymuch.

- Every heavy player has a cobalt flux. I have a crappy Topway dancemat thankyouverymuch.

- Every DDR player likes Electronic\dance music music. I do like dance music, but I like rock music alot more.

The one that annoys me the most is the one that girls can't play DDR. I haven't had this problem yet, but when I do, I shall laugh and go Kind Lady (interlude) on their fat asses.

Funny, i keep hearing about how "only nerds play DDR"

But in our case, I've gotten comments like, "Its a nerd... playing ddr?" and "The heavy metal guy likes ddr?"

So my hated stereotype goes the other way! Nerds and Goths for DDR!

"You're Asian; all you do is DDR./White people suck at DDR.

This type of statement pisses me off. Because I'm a white/Chinese mix, I catch both ends of this one.

"This game has nothing but techno/cutesy Japanese music."

Whenever I hear someone mention one of these two genres, I play some extremity from the other one.

That's weird, American Tokyo...I got the opposite. My friend and I were talking about DDR, and about how I don't look like someone who would like DDR (at least, I don't think so, based on the people I see playing), but he says "Oh, you're goth, you look like everybody who plays DDR here (somewhere in California)." Now, I'm not exactly goth, but some people think I am...and apparently a lot of goth people play DDR?

I haven't seen any, though. A few punkish types, but no goth people.

(PS: I completely agree with the point about how stupid the "barrape = n00b" stereotype is. I barrape occasionally (lack of stamina), because the alternative would be to give up and stop playing whatever song it is that I'm playing at the time - and that *would* be pretty n00bish, if I could have beat it somehow. I'm one of those people that thinks that you don't give up until you've exhausted all your options.

That's probably because there's more Goths playing DDR from the norm. At least in my area. But logically, due to the way DDR is attracting people, it doesn't seem impossible to be the case elsewhere.

Stereo types I can't stand:

All DDR players look stupid when there on those funky pads, they look like dancing chimps on crack! DDR is for dorky, outcast type people. If you play DDR you automatically love anime. ( I do ) but most of my friends don't! DDR is not fun, wastes time.
All the stereo types that said this need to well, stop judging DDR and take a look in the mirror at themselves.

Of all the stereotypes, I despise the "only asian/skinny guys play ddr". All I can say to that is "slightly chubby white/mexican/filipino guy who can hold his own in Standard mode". Nyah

The one that I really hate is that people think that everyone who plays DDR is a nerd that acts all goofy while playing, like spinning and swinging your arms and stuff. Like in Malcome in the Middle when they were playing "Beat Beat Revolutionn" (haha) and Hal and that other guy where playing it and acting really goofy.

Im Kinda Confused By Synpax Whole Theory On The Stereotypes. I Think The Reason Every Thinks Asians Are So Good At DDR Is Because The Game Originated From Over There And There Is So Many More Games Of The DDR/Rythem Type Over There Due To Their Technology.

Then Again, I Guess my View Could Just Be The Sterotype That I Always Hear Around Here... Meh.

I pretty much agree with what's been said already. But the stereotype that annoys me the most is the asian one. I happen to be asian but I'm still not that great. I actually lost to a white guy a week ago. I think stereotypes are really stupid. It shows close-mindedness. You can't judge someone based on how they play DDR.

Another thing that really pisses me off is when people say that people who are good at DDR have no life. Because I do have a life. Oh, and about the memorization thing I heard mentioned earlier. I've only played Maxx Unlimited 5 times (not even in the same month), and the 5th time I passed it with a B on Standard. Memorization? I don't think so.

Alright, here are the ones that piss me off

If you play DDR and you're good...it's because you're ASIAN
(That's a load of bull, my ethnic background consists of 50% Filipino, 25% Chinese and 25% American)...that doesn't make me any better than a Hispanic, German, or African-American or any other different raced person. Another thing, I can't even pass Max 300 or PSMO or PS, and according to my background I'm "somewhat" ASIAN...so ha!

WRONG if you play DDR you're not a loser, how about...(for example, not dissin' anyone or anything,) if you're a loser because you play DDR, then what about Time Crisis 3, Initial D 3, Guitar Freaks, Drummania, Beat Mania, Soul Caliber, or even Ski Ball? As you can see people that go to the arcade are different, as in their choice of games, so let's RESPECT it and each other!!!

well iunno if this is a sterotype buts or its onli in vancouver but like im azn but i HATE IT that im always getting talked down byhind my back while im picking songs, there like god hes another kappawearing, gq wannabe, dressshoes, u sux, omfg wut an ezy song. The onli thing i enjoy when they talk down on me is when i skool THEM at everything they say and prove them wrong but seriously dont talk poopy aboutsomeone if you cant back up ur words, seriously just because i cant get encore stage doesnt mean i sux.

Strangely, in my 8 months of DDR career, I haven't faced much DDResque stereotypes. However, people in my area (Montreal, QC) kinda expect an asian player to be good at DDR, but they won't be surprised if he's not that good. The girl stereotype is definitely out the window, because from what I've heard, Quebec's "DDR Champion" is a lady (or so said many DDR players at La Ronde, last time I went there).

The thing I've heard most often is "he's only good cuz he knows all the songs by heart, that's the only reason he's good". Granted, I may be familiar with several bit & pieces of a song I like, but if you can't properly read/react to arrows, you're screwed.

The only one I've heard was "he's good cuz he spends his whole paychecks in there", and "this guy must live at the arcade". Both aren't true. Unfortunately, bills & food come before play. And I prefer my comfy bed rather than a metal pad with plastic arrows...

PS: a small OT note concerning that person who said that knee/hands aren't proper freestyle material. I do agree, but only to a certain extent. Granted, it is NOT something you'd wanna do in a freestyle tournament. That I wholeheartedly agree. However, when your DDR machine is in a theme park, and your "audience" are the people who went in there for the rides (ie: many DDR-illiterate people), pulling those "lame" moves amazes them. And if pulling those once in a while makes me lame in anyone's eyes, then so be it. The game's all about having fun, no matter what stereotypes can label on you, even if those stereotypes are based upon opinions on "what's freestyle material or not".

My point? Stereotypes are bad, even if they come from our own community's members. ktx!
