Hi, my name is Keith Floreca and I'm the other one tryng to break the DDR world record
here's where I got the info from
http://www.bend.com/news/ar_view^3Far_id^3D12608.htm
The currently known regulations are
.
-30 Second break between each song
-15 Minute break every 8 hours.
-2 Adults must be present to witness and verify the entire event.
That's all we're banking on. I contacted Guiness in MARCH and they never responded, so we're just going to follow the rules by how we know it. Look at the topic about Drew Gamble breaking the record, they went to beginner too. I have no idea who came up with that "all heavy" stuff. Beginner may seem really easy, but trust me, it does get hard even after 8 hours nonstop.
I've contacted my AP Bio teacher who's wife is a nutritionist, and they gave me tips on what to eat and what not to eat. We're going to try power goo and other nutrition stuff. Breaking any world record is challenging, and you've gotta play it smart. Water is good, but not for long term events like this. He suggested drinking more gatorade and drinks that restore electorytes. Water after 8 hours could make you overhydrated, which is as bad as being dehydrated.
We're using a DDRExtreme arcade because that's the aracde that the manager of Nickelmania has. I believe thats what Drew used also. Like Derek said, this is truly a fundraiser for our friend in Russia. Holding the world record is just an added bonus. So if this becomes "unofficial" because we didn't adhere to a rule that we didnt know, then so be it. I'll be perfectly happy as long as my friend can come back summer 2005.
If any of you have any tips, comments, or questions, either post here or reach me at [email protected] Thanks a bunch!! |

If it was on heavy and you had to go through every song before repeating, THEN it would be about DDR. Doing it on beginner as mentioned earlier is just a test to see how long you can stay awake- pointless. |

I find it halarious how easy some you guys think this is
I can do a good amount of catas before getting tired, long distance is completely different. World record is still a world record, and any type of it is hard to break. Go ahead and try to do beginner for 40 hours, it's not as easy as you think. It may not take as much DDR skills as you'd want, but it still takes a lot of planning and preperation. I'm sure some of you wouldn't even attempt this because some of you dont have the patience and focus to do something for this long.
Anyways, I'll keep repeating myself until you get this or stop slamming the idea. This is a fundraiser for my friend in Russia, and the World record is just a secondary goal. If you dont have any pointers, suggestions, or questions, quit posting |

I got all the info from Guiness on breaking the record. Either they take a long time to get things processed, or they didnt count Drew's attempt because they said the record is not set yet.
Anyways, the record is much like a dance marathon (by the way, do you see people swing dancing or doing something fast for entire marathon? No, I didnt think so). Anyway, here's a bit of the info
2. Apart from pauses lasting no more than 30 seconds between dances, dancing must be continuous.
3. The dance is to be accompanied by either live or recorded music that can be from any appropriate source (video, CD, vinyl, etc.). If a DJ is used to mix, introduce and play the music, they cannot accompany the dancers for more than four hours at a stretch, after which they must take a break of at least four hours.
4. Each piece of music must last at least two minutes but there is no maximum time.
5. No piece of music may be repeated during the attempt within four hours. A play list of all the music performed must be maintained.
No rules about difficulty or what machine to use. #4 is a problem and i've responded to them with a question about it.
By the way, if any of you want to break any world record, make sure you contact Guiness way in advance (I'm talking about half a year). There's a lot of paperwork that I just got, and I have a week to straighten everything out |

Those rules don't seem to apply to DDR though... like the average song is like 1 minute 30 seconds ...... _________________

Those "rules" sound like they came from someone who doesn't have the slightest idea what DDR is. |

Those "rules" are made by Guiness, not DDRFreak, Konami, or any company that associates with DDR. Is it that suprising? It fits under the category of Dancing Marathon, so we'll just apply the rules to DDR and hope they take it. Even if it doesn't become official, it will still make headlines.
Sorry if I seem offensive to anyone, I'm a little stressed out with all the stuff i need to take care of
About a 1/3 of the way with pledges. Woot!!! |

Yeah, wear sunglasses or ask them to move the pad from the machine as far back as they can.
Honestly, I think I could do this pretty easily. |

People that think this is an easy task... try standing up for 24 hours, let alone being active and moving.. i used to work at the movies in the box office, and we didnt have stools.. so standing up for 8 hours on end was adverage, and that was difficult. This is not as easy as you think, 40 hours is a LONG buttocks TIME... but be warned, u may never ever wanna play ddr after a bad experience like attempting this.. _________________

To those who think Beginner only for 40 hours is only a matter of staying awake, go for a slow jog. Come back in a couple days. Then criticize.
I do know for sure that you can never fail a song. Drew attempted it with a friend, and the friend slipped up and failed Sakura (Heavy, mind you), which had his shot be ineligeble. |

CircaRocker, your completely WRONG. Slow jog?
...
More like, try standing on the spot and tapping your foot once every few seconds, then get a 30 second rest after doing it for 1.5 minutes. That is what DDR Beginner is to anyone who plays heavy.
Not to mention when you get tired you have a nice bar to lean back and rest on. It isn't even standing guys. Hell, are there any rules about having to stand up? If you really REALLY get tired you can sit on the damned pad and pass beginner mode with your hands if you need a rest, or even sit on the bar.
The only challenge with this is getting through the bordom of having to stay there for that long, and staying awake. Besides that, there is zero challenge, you'll exert more energy passing Max300 once than you will by tapping your foot for 40 hours. |

I can play catas and pies with you whenever you want, but if you've actually read this forum right, you'd realize that this isnt for self-glorification. I'm not here to show off my DDR skills to the world, I'm here to raise money for a friend. Friend, go look that up in a dictionary, maybe you'll understand how we dont get bored playing beginner for so long.
As for sitting down, I can do that with heavy songs too, big deal. It doesn't mean I'm going to.
Take physics 101 man, you basically expend just as much energy running a mile as you do walking a mile, DDR isn'y any different.
Slow and steady win the race. Drew made it to 37.5 hours, and his friend failed at 17 hours because he did a heavy and couldnt keep up with it. Do you know his name? Where's all the glory you wanted for doing your heavys?? Yep, thats what I thought.
Audhumla, CircaRocker, Fr0sty, DJ-, and everyone else thats giving good tips and support: thanks. It's nice to know that there are honorable people in the world
By the way, His name was Chris Machado |
