I read this topic title and armed my flamethrower. Thank God you were opposing the stereotype. I couldn't agree more with other posts. People are just ignorant. |

I can't believe ppl would say that! I happen to know tons of guys that play ddr and I find nothing wrong w/ that. To tell u the truth I've only seen like 5 girls play the game and they weren't even that good. LoL. _________________

Uh...I find it odd that you'd say it's stereotyped as a girls' game - we girls are vastly outnumbered by the guys, especially as you get to Heavy level. I've seen two girls other than me playing on Heavy, whereas I've seen like a dozen guys playing on Heavy. All the girls are stuck on Light, Standard every now and then, or they don't play at all.
...but that's okay! More guys = more eye candy. _________________

Note that I said "stereotypically" - how many stereotypes are accurate, anyway? _________________

Here's a lesson in perspectives for everybody.
1) List as many male dancers as you can think of in 5 minutes.
2) Remove the names of all the male dancers who would not be considered 'masculine'
3) Are the remaining names those of actual gay men?
It's not a matter of people being unable to play or being jealous. It's that in this day and age, the ability to 'dance' or the enjoyment of dancing and music is still seen as a rather effeminate trait. Especially when that dancing is done largely by oneself and not as part of a larger alcohol fueled dating ritual.
Interestingly enough, this likely would not have been the case in, say, the 40's and 50's when Hollywood was pumping out musicals left and right that featured singing, dancing leading men who were considered quite masculine for the time. Those movies are long gone, however, and with them went the appreciation for male dance.
While DDR certainly isn't the same as tap, swing, ballet, et cetera, it carries the same stigma today from those who would deride such things. That's not going to change any time soon.
You guys (and girls) get it especially bad, though. Your peer groups are, by their very nature, largely immature and unable to live and let live. It's a lot easier when you're 30 and can defend yourself effectively. _________________

i also thought it said Sexiest game... at first. I was thinking, yeah, it does seem sexy at times. *like teaching my GF how to play, and she's been playing "Dance Dance Revolution" on standard. not my fault, but its easy to make her laugh like that*
I think that people call it a Girls game because speedy dancing like that is generally thought of as a girl thing. _________________

also because alot of the songs are kind of girly. Granted there are some pretty cool songs, but the only ones it seems people play at the arcade around here is Butterfly, Look to the Sky, and other types of girl-oriented songs. Personally, i like those songs, but they are geared more towards girls. _________________

(there were also some hot girls in skirts ) |
When I read that, I honestly thought you said "also some hot guys in skirts", which completely goes against your whole back story. |
