I was thinking that if I take out the copper and replace it with sheet metal (sheet metal that is wider than the copper) the pad will register more easily no mater where you hit it. The copper is placed in the middle, and you have to hit pretty close to the center, but I was thinking that if I used sheet metal instead, it covers a wider area and will register anywhere through out the pad. I know I would have to resolder the wires, but I wasnt sure if this would actually work. If it does work then I think it would be a good mod.

Just a couple week update: the RedOctane pads I bought continue to work well, although I've noticed that they are slightly different revisions it seems. They both have a thin layer of foam underneath to prevent sliding and (I thought) protect floors. However, after playing for quite a while on both, I discovered a difference. One of them has two screws with points that protrude past the wood underneat the foam - didn't notice them until after playing a while on my hardwood floors, and now have two gouges there frown.gif ... I got some interlocking foam "garage floor pads" from target to put under both, although only one seems to need it. This works well, no slpping and no scratching. Just a heads up, I imagine many pads might have this same issue if playing on a hard surface, since there are only a few manufacturers it seems.

ok i have two questions, first quetsion is the DDR MAX 2 Konamix Dance Dance Revolution Metal Pad any good? is it worth my 100 dollers? or is their a better metal pad that i can buy for my 100 dollers?

and the second question is, how hard is it to mod a metal pad, i was thinking about takeing off the metal panals replaceing them with plexy glass and putting neons on the inside of the pad, (kinda like a pc mod) would that be possible??

If you're looking on eBay, I'd be very skeptical of this pad (Mostly because of its name). Past posters have mentioned buying metal pads from judysdeals and others. As with all things, you get what you pay for, and $100 is pretty cheap for a metal pad.

I know you want to go for the "heavy case mod" look. But since you are working with a tight budget, may I humbly suggest that you use your cash to either get 2 BNS Ultra DX-Xtreme pads, http://www.buynshop.com/productinfo/44/VG-DDR-ULTDX/ or get a used Cobalt Flux? http://www.cobaltflux.com/

IMO, the looks of your pads are much less important than how they play. These two options are the best I know of.

I just got 2 used CFs ($110 each), and they are fantastic. It is very easy to remove and replace the decals, and modify them that way.

I would be more skeptical of what dmarsee writes than those ebay pads. As he joined ddrfreak only last month.

I have had what many call terrible metal pads (old mymybox pads) for over 2 years now and they are still going strong. I just AAA'd 2 songs in a row on them yesterday to give you an idea of how good they are doing.

I think that it would be a great investment for you to get those pads, but be sure that you treat them right, or it wont be worth it. I have kept my pads going strong for this long by cleaning them out maybe once a month and preforming maintanance on them at the same time. All I do is unscrew the screws, clean the connection on the panels with steel wool and then screw it back together and make sure that all of the screws and rubber stoppers are on there tightly.

I am planning on buying 2 of these (they are better than my metal pads cause of the polycarbon panels) to take to college with me as my mom wont give up the mymybox pads (yes my mom plays ddr, and yours should too).

Ps. dmarsee? why did the person that you bought the used cf's from sell them to you if they were so great. Did he buy his own Arcade machine?

You know, sometimes people stop playing DDR and get rid of their gear. It has been known to happen.

I don't know the specifics of this particular sale, but to immediately take the tone that they must be faulty since somebody decided to sell them is a bit premature.

It seems the dealer has got his act together and selling the pictured pad which is a BNS clone.

can anyone tell me if this pad is good enough to the point it will last about 4 months for soemeone who plays about maybe up to like 8 hours a week and is about 170 lbs. I already have it bought and its being shipped i was just doin some late research and trying to get feedback from people

Slooog wrote:
ok well mine turned out to be a bns as shown.. i havent tried it out yet but is the sheet metal mod doable for this pad also? or is there any other mods available for these pads?

Given that, it should have the same type of arrows (polycarbonate) like a BNS or RO as opposed to acrylic. The clone, BNS, and RO differ by very little so they should give offer the same quality and performance when you take care of it. The only problem I had with the dealer was that he sent me a different pad which was ok but that was 3 months ago. There is another ebay dealer judysdeals that has metal pad with polycarbon but there seems none in stock momentarily.

I think the guys over in the homemade metal pad topic can help you with that question.

I have a question and a review all in one.

I got my RedOctane metal pads today. I played for 5 minutes and the upper-right button broke. On top of all of this, the metal that surrounds the upper-side of the pad seems to be slightly dented...or maybe it's just reacting to the screws set in it. Whatever. ANYWAYS, I was wondering if anyone had the same problems, because if they did, RedOctane sells some whacked-out crap. Thank ya.

Seems like a factory defect cause that isn't normal. The upper-right arrow cracked or it is not responding? I would call RO and explain to them your problem. They probably offer to replace it or send you replacement panels.

The arrow wasn't cracked, it just doesn't respond. That, and the pad will go "in and out of consciousness", if you will. It'll be working one second, and then all of a sudden, it'll stop. Weird thing is though, it only stops working AFTER the song is done. I'm at a loss, currently.

Hi, I'm sure you're all getting tired of random people asking about pads, but I gotta try anyways:

I was looking for a metal pad under $150 (sans shipping) and I was wondering how the mid-range BNS pad was? Whether it's durable, requires modding, or anything. I did a search on a few forums and I couldn't seem to come up with anything.

I'd say they are just as good as RO except that the arrows still use aluminum foil strips. To make it contact system more durable, do the sheet metal mod before you play. If your happy with how it functions, you don't have to do any other mods, just check/clean ever so often.

Yep.

Print out the graphics you want at 11"x11" and laminate them.

Then, you just unscrew the panel screws, lift the top layer of Lexan, and then pull the original decals out, replace them with your customs, and screw the Lexan back down.

i have a complaint about the cobalt flux. yes i do... it's not about the quality of the pad or anything. i couldnt possibly complain about that because they HAVEN'T SHIPPED IT YET. it's been about 20 days now and they've yet to ship it. i even emailed the dude twice asking when i can expect the pad and he gave an estimate. they still didnt ship it so i emailed again and he gave another estimate and it's past that as well... i know these are just guesses at when my pad will be shipped, and the note at the bottom of the page said "ABOUT 2 weeks" but really. i've heard of people getting theirs shipped out so much earlier than that, but never really that much later. this sucks.

you just have to wait, some people get them fast and some people just dont, and thats just the way it is

By the way everone on these forums seem to love the CF and have the god damn money to get one (sorry but i don't have the cash so i'm kinda pissed off right now....don't mind me).....I'd expect the CF to be popular in other places as well. so it shouldn't be that unexpected to have to wait a couple of weeks for a CF to be shipped being so popular and all. i jus hope i can get the cash for mine soon and be able to convince my parents that a 300 dollar pad isn't THAT much.... riiight.gif this might take a while.....

I'm pretty disapointed with my RO pad I just got. The arrows are harder to depress than they should be. I litterally have to stomp to my beat in order to stomp to my beat. Anyone know how to make them more responsive?

i feel ya brother. Ive been sittin here waitin for my CF to come for the past 2 1/2 weeks and ive gotten nothing. They said the same to me when i emailed them that it would be SHIPPED in aprox. 2weeks. Im curious as to why it takes them so long. I mean the pads are obviously popular, so why would u just make them according to when someone buys one. Plus it really shouldnt be taking this long. I live in California and they are stationed in Utah.....not really that far from Cali unless my geography is off....

Now everyone says these pads are worth it, so i guess we just gotta wait it out. This betta be worth my $300 and 2 weeks of waiting!!
