Opinions wanted...

I'm just curious to see what you all think. I've been saving up to buy a metal DDR pad for myself(possibly two if I'm patient enough!) and I want to know what you all think about the differences between RedOctane and ColbultFlux. I'm thinking I'm probably going to end up getting a RedOctane pad because they're about one hundred dollars cheaper!

well it really depends on how hardcore u are about playing, they are both GREAT pads but if you are totally hardcore (or just really anal) and will pay attention to the tiniest little performance details, then i would say to go with the cobalt flux, but if you are gonna be a bit more casual about it then i would suggest the red octane, that's what i got, but i think you should get more people's opinions i dont know much...

Well, let me put it to you this way. I am a completely dedictated player, I play usually everyday and in wanting to buy a metal pad, I just want to know what people think is better as far as quality goes, which one they feel is worth the money.

I agree, the Cobalt's the best choice if you play a lot. If you're just a casual DDRer, there wouldn't even be much of a point of getting anything "better" than Red Octane's Ignition (a soft pad). My Ignition lasted about 5 months before it started to give me problems, and Cobalt Fluxes come with a 6 month garuntee.

CF pads are going to be higher quality and probably last you longer than any other pad you can possibly buy. In addition, the customer service at CF is amazing, especially with the 6 month warantee. CF pads, however, are completely flat, so when you go to the arcade, you might find yourself a little thrown off by the indentations (if I remember correctly, RO pads have similar, although shallower indentations). I would say CF, mostly because that's what I use and it's never let me down.

Just buy a pad from ebay and do the sheet metal mod... thats what i did.. the one wire came off so i stripped it down and taped it on and works fine now. I've had mine for 5 months... get one with polycarbonate arrows though

You can make it a lot like an arcade pad by simply putting wood under the corner buttons and center. You can even keep them functional, just raised like the arcade if you don't want to have to switch to a controller to pick songs.

i agree. CF's are waaaay too sensitive. i got a metal pad on ebay for $85. it has 6 panels and no logo. plus, it's great for practicing for the arcade, because it's the same, if not less, sensitive. i say ebay's the best plae to buy one. and if i put some aluminum foil uder the panels, it would just as sensitive as a CF. in short, this is what i say: beginner/light mode: soft pad. standard mode: ignition pad. heavy mode: metal pad. i have a soft and metal pad at my mom's house and an ignition at my dad's. i like the metal pad best. CF's are overrated.

Yeah. That is unfortunate that CFs are like 200 dollars, but I think they'll probably be worth it, unless like annonymous I buy one off ebay for a reasonable price..hell I might even find two if I'm lucky enough. I'm just looking to play on something that is closer the machine rather than a soft pad.

I play a lot of both: arcade and home, usually though it's more at home just because I simply don't have the kind of resources to blow 20 bucks a day as I've been known to do!

I guess in my decision of wanting a metal pad, it'll all depend on whether or not I am patient enough to save up the 200 or just give in for a cheaper e-bay version. So..meh.

My opinion: Don't waste your money on a Cobalt Flux. They don't feel at all like the arcade and are retardedly expensive for what you get. Buy a couple of MyMyBoxes or whatever floats on ebay and do the sheet metal mod. I used my MyMyBoxes for a well over a year, and they still work great. The only reason I don't use them anymore is because there's an awesome arcade nearby and it gives me a reason to leave my very unawesome apartment.

Well I understand the price for CF being a little high, but as far as quality goes--I personally believe they're completely worth it on the other hand, an ignition pad would give me better play than the 20 dollar soft pads I've got now but for a far less time than a metal one. And, btw, I have NO idea what a MyMyBox is!

I wouldn't even have the understanding how to do a sheet metal mod. I'll probaly end up opting for a premade one!
