Upgrading an arcade machine to stepmania?

Okay, first of all, I would like to know how exactly it's done. I know Loki did it at RVGL, and I want to know what kind of stuff is required:

1) Is there any specific mix or higher that is required for this to be done upon? I know you probably need to gut the machine, so does it really matter?
2) What kind of Computer hardware is required to run the Stepmania? My comp doesn't have a great video card, but it's fairly well-to-do in other areas.
3) About how much would I have to pay for a box with none of the software?
4) Anything else I should know.

Number 1..Does'nt this blong in the Simulators Forum and Number 2 the only way i have seen it is just the ddr cabinet with a computer inside it with stepmania loaded and running...
