Hi,

My daughter wants to take our octane ignition pad on vacation, it's too long for carry on, if we check it as baggage it will probably get mangled. Any suggestions for packing, or maybe we should buy a cheaper pad for the trip instead?

Thanx,
a DDRer's Mom (still slogging away in Light mode)

How about don't take anything along. It would be too much trouble, and whats the point in taking a vacation just to do stuff that you can do at home? Get out and do some new stuff!

It can be done, if you take the foam insert out, fold it up, and wrap everything together pretty tightly, but it is risky. You would have to be really careful about how you pack things to prevent the foam insert from getting warped (thats probably the #1 cause of dead ignitions). I would say just go to the arcade if you REALLY want to play while you are on vacation.

This will probably help if you can't find any DDR machines. http://www.ddrfreak.com/locations/locations.php Go there if you haven't already. Have fun on your trip! E1.gif

Yeah, just do what I did on my vacation to Arizona and find machines to go play at. I found two godly machines a block away from my hotel in Tucson...2 Extremes in good condition, 50 cents each, one with joint premium drool.gif

Thanks for all the replies and helping us make a decision - unfortunately there's no DDR machines where we are going, but it's only for a week so we decided to leave the pad at home. Also read somewhere here that standing the pad on its side to store (which we were doing) could cause the foam to warp, if it's that easy to ruin, taking it on a plane is not a good idea..

I checked my ignition pad as baggage when I went on a trip to St. Louis a year ago. There were no problems with it when I got it from baggage pickup (the only thing they did was insert a notice saying they opened the bag to check for suspicious stuff).

But what helped was that I had a carrying case for it, so I could break it down and store it in the bag which made life easier. Did you have the same?
