Not Soft, Not Metal, But Hard Pads

Hi Everyone,

I wasn't sure where to post this, so I made a new topic. I am VERY new to this ddr stuff, and I am trying to figure exactly what kind of pad to get. I figured I would either go with a metal one or the hard one. Does anyone have any experiences with the "hard" (vinyl or plastic) pads?? I like them because they do have all 8 arrows on them. Do you even need all 8 arrows or are 6 good enough?? I am a beginner to this, so any help would be very appreciated.

The hard pads are just plain bad. Not durable at all. Do not get these pads. Since your a beginner, I'd suggest looking at the first page and last few pages of the soft pad topic here. I'd suggest an ignition pad (foam insert) as opposed to cheap soft pad. If your intereseted in metal pads, go here. Check the first page and the last few pages of this topic too.

DDR supports up to 6 arrows, so the other 2 would serve for cancel/back function in ps2 ddr game. If the center square was a button, you can play pump-it-up. 8 arrows are standard on soft pads while 6 arrows for metal pads.

yeah, i would go for the soft pad if you're new. i had one up til i got on heavy, then i got a metal pad. you don't really need 8 panels, because the select buttons can be used for cancellation. in short: get a soft WIRED pad. don't get a wireless pad. those last a week and then you need to change the batteries. plus, i saw one in a store that said that it had a 25-foot range----who would play ddr with the tv 25 feet away? anyway, save your money and get a soft pad.

the best soft pads to me are the ones that come with official combo pacs

While it may seem like a good idea to invest in these "hard" pads, they're downright awful.

I broke both of mine in 3 weeks of playing on Light (the easiest difficulty, at the time), barefoot. I don't think you want to spend $100 for the same result.

Instead, invest in a good soft pad, such as the Offical Konami Bundle Pads, or BNS-DX/Ignition 2.0 pads.
