are there any ps2,CF compatible -> Xbox converters that wont mess up the timing or anything? or any ps2 -> xbox converters for that matter?

Most people swear by the Gemini GameElements adapter. It's a dual converter, to both GC and Xbox.
I have one, but I can't attest to its useability.
