Hello all, newb here.
I just started playing DDR and I really like it. Only problem is that I'm spending tons of money at the arcade. I think in the long run I could save money and practice more if I invested in a home system.
I'm broke so I want to spend as little as possible.
I don't have a console, so I'm thinking of buying a PS1. PS2 is really not feasible with my current budget. Are the DDR games for PS1 any good? I don't want to bother with mod chips or anything, just buy my game go home and play.
any advice would be appreciated! |

The PS1 is fine for DDR but to get the full DDR enjoyment, you really should get a modchip as the Jap game selection is much better IMO than the US one (I rarely play the US DDR games). As far as PS2, the biggest diff you'll notice is the framerate (PS2 DDR games (maybe not all but latest ones) run at 60fps vs PS1 games run at 30fps - not a huge difference and most don't even notice it but it does bug me a bit. Also the newer PS2 games have larger song selections than the PS1 games. But other than that, there really isn't that much difference between the PS1 and PS2 games (although I'm not sure if PS1s have ONI/Endless modes if you are into those).
One thing to consider with the home versions is the cost of the pads - pads aren't cheap (you'll likely spend as much or more on the pads as you will on the console) and depending on which one you get and how you play, you'll need to replace them - my advice, stay away for the 'mats' and at the minimum get a decent softpad (check softpad forum) and given your budget constraints, you might want to look at building your own metalpad (although that's also not super cheap - check the build-your-own forum)
Hope this helps,
Mike |

thanks!
I'm probably going to buy a $20-25 softpad and use the plywood mods to increase its lifespan. I already have the necessary materials around the house so I wouldn't need to buy anything. Next year I will be able to use the metal shop on campus so I could possibly build a metal pad if I go crazy.
I don't think I'll notice the difference in games very much. I've only been playing a few weeks so I'm still not very good. |

need help with my flip top
i got the flip top from ps2cover.com that came with what it said was the 3.2 swap magic combo.
it came with a swap magic disk that said swap magic 3.0(DVDs) and in small print 3.2 usa build and a 2.0 disc(CDs)
now i cant even get the 2.0 to load right it just keeps saying disk error and the dvd disc loads and i can swap out for the game(using ddr extremejp) and after it loads i get what i assume is japanese for screw off you are using a illegal way of playing text with yes or no question box below it.
i dont know what im doing wrong but from all accounts that i have read the discs would make it so i could play imports just fine without gamesharks/mod chip ect.
what am i missing here? im doing what the web site says
I have a v9/10 playstation 2 if that helps |

The yes/no dialog is the same one you get in US mixes. First one you see says there's no save data, and do you want to create any. Left option yes, right option no. The second one asks if you want to turn on auto-save (or if you want to play without save data, if you chose No the first time). Catch is, if you're used to American PS games, the buttons are switched around in Japanese versions. In US games, you usually use X to confirm, O to cancel. JP games are the other way: O confirms, X cancels. If you've been pressing X, you've been cancelling the dialogs, doing something like: Create save data? No. Play without save data? No. Create save data? No.
When it starts up, and you see the dialog, try this: Left, Circle, Left, Circle. Should get you up and going with save data and auto-save on. |

Youre correct on the japanese games using X to cancel and O to accept, but most american games use X to accept and /_\ to cancel. _________________

damn that helps alot.
i got extreme to work but the party collection is a diffrent matter.
the swap cd just wont load(swap2.0 for cd games)......i was able to get it to load once out of 30 trys
if it wont load it normally makes a couple click noises and just says disk error.
i tried tightening the screws but one screw wont go in because on the flip top it doesnt have the hole like the original cover does. its the screw near the reset button...long silver screw. |

Heh... Blame Final Fantasy (US). Triangle gets the menu, Circle goes back. I figured it was similar in other games as well. I actually made the same mistake when I got Extreme. I thought it was a problem with the memory card, so I went out and bought a new one, and was frustrated when I still couldn't get through that dialog. |

The support options on the Japanese PS2 DDR Mixes have nothing to do with the arcade, I believe. When you go into the options menu and the save sub-menu on Extreme, Max 2, or Party Collection (but not Max)(all Japanese mixes, this option is not available for Max or Max 2 US), there is an option called Support (all previous PS2 DDR Mixes [i.e. For Max 2: Support Max; for Extreme: Support Max 2, Support Max; For Party Collection: Support Extreme, Support Max 2, Support Max). This option will unlock everything in the game, including courses, endless mode, and all songs. DO NOT use this mode if you would like to unlock everything by yourself. I found it very helpful, though, especially for Max 2 and Extreme. To use your memory card data at the arcade... I'm not completely sure how, but I think if you just save it on a PS2 memory card (like edit data), you can just plug it in to an arcade slot... but I think there is an FAQ on that somewhere. I hope that helps answer your question. |

Hi guys, I have a quick (And rather silly) question. I really want to play the old mixes (Especially 4 and 5) and have sort of given up on playing PS1 games on my PS2 because no one seems to know a whole lot about the Breaker Pro disc. Soooo, with my big bank account, I'm pretty sure that I'd like to get the real deal - an actual Japanese PS1. ( http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-g-70-7b-4-7.html ) I guess I just would like to know if this will play all the PS1 games (Including the Append discs) Silly question, huh? I'm sure it does, I'm just... not totally sure... And does anyone not reccomend this way of doing things? I've got the money and have been happy with Play Asia so far, so... Oh, and 220v is too many for use here, right? How would I go about getting around that? |
