so yeah one day i type in ddr in my Limewire Pro (its like kazza, a p2p program) and i get a whole bunch of videos. but there was one video called morning musume ddr competition. now, i had nothing better to do, so wut the hell. i download it. my god, i thought they would actually wanna make ddr look GOOD in japan! basicaly, it was a competition in japan for ddr. all female contestents. the stage looks pretty childish, kinda like a wacked up blues clues stage lol. so they talk for a bit, and i guess one gurl challenges another. now my first thought that it was a competion with experienced ddr players. well, i shure was wrong!! one chick was goin against this other chick, who basicly never played in her life by the looks of it. lol, it was really REALLY sad. download it or try to find it, its kinda interesting. but i think none of the players were on any level higher then light. well, only downloaded half of it, so i might have missed sum good stuff. _________________

To clarify, "Morning Musume" is an all-girl J-Pop band (the band members change regularly).
In Japan, it is not uncommon for these music "talents" (celebrities) to have their own show or at least a special on. The band "Puffy" had one ("P-P-P-Puffy"), Ayumi Hamasaki has/had one (Ayu Ready? (not positive if it is still on)) and Morning Musume is no different (they have been on a variety of evening shows as a "special guest". This is no different.
It's just one of those "random" TV specials that happened to feature DDR. This particular show would have to be somewhat old, I would think. DDR hasn't been mainstream popular in Japan in years. I can probably tell the year by the band members, though. If anyone has a direct link to the video, I'd love to see it. |

Seishinbyou explained Japan's music celebrities' variety shows nicely, so here are some more details about the clip specifically. The clip is from Puffy's show which Seishinbyou mentioned, "Pa-Pa-Pa-Pa-Puffy!" Puffy, or Puffy AmiYumi as they're known in the U.S. (thanks to a certain rapper with multiple personality disorder), invited the massive J-Pop girl group Morning Musume over for a competition of some kind. There was more to it than DDR, or so I've heard.
Anyway, the clip I have, you might have a different one, shows Eriko and Takako(?) facing off against each other on 3rd Mix on a PS2 with Konami soft mats, on Boom Boom Dollar K.O.G. G3 Mix. Takako does horribly and starts screaming wildly at one point when she starts really screwing up. Eriko does much better, getting a B or A overall and a score of 4 million some points. As for Japan making DDR look bad, well, Morning Musume's a pop group, not a hardcore DDR team. They probably did about as well on the game as Britney Spears, Beyonce, the Spice Girls, or Christina Aguilera would have done if they played DDR. |

Indeed, Morning Musume is huge. I think there's like 14 members in the group, and they've formed smaller groups out of that group, like Pucchimoni (the youngest members of Morning Musume which are all no older than 16, I think), and 3-nin Matsuri (which means "3 person festival" =P). Glad you understand now. If it had been strictly a DDR contest, it would have been more embarrassing. But I think after that they had an eating contest of some kind where Takako kept getting food loaded with hot wasabi. Man, Takako couldn't get a break on that show.
I can't remember where I downloaded the movie from. I want to say it was a website, but I can't say for sure. XD Anyway, Britney on DDR. That'd be interesting. I wonder if she's ever played the game that bears her name. |

SMAP's Nakai Masahiro also cohosts a music show: Utaban
SMAP's Katori Shingo cohosts a show called SmaStation
