I ordered my flip-top from PS2cover.com (transparent blue, requires you to press a button to open it) and have two problems: The first being the general deal where the DVD drive sounds like an airy garbage disposal and can't read any disks and the second being the two memory card slot doors get stuck halfway in. The second problem is not a big deal as I can still insert cards, but I tend to despise how ghetto it looks.

Make sure the screw holding in the Mem slot door's is screwed in all the way. It sounds like your fliptop isnt on all the way, try tighting the screws. Also, for your problem, did you put the screw for the eject switch in the back hole? Many people put it in the front and it should go in the back.

Screw for the eject switch? I'm not sure if I understand. As far as I know, there are only two different types of screws for the 8 screw that go underneath my V5 PS2. You've got four of these very elongated screws that go into the four corners of the "main" part of the unit, and then you've got these smaller sized screws that go into the two middle holes of the main part and then the two holes that are off to the side on the part where the reset/eject buttons are. However, those two screws are the same as far as I knew... Are you saying this is why my tray couldn't come out on the second time I screwed it in? I hope I can figure out which screw goes in near those buttons, then, as my memory of what was originally in there when I first started unscrewing the case to put the mod on is growing fuzzy.

Is there a comprehensive picture walkthough that anyone has for installing flip-top mods aside from that grainy one on PS2cover.com? That thing was awful in so many ways for those of us who are completely inexperienced.

In any case, I appreciate the reply. It gives me hope that maybe this thing can work the way it was supposed to after all, though I'm a little confused as to how. I thought I screwed the "bed" for the memory card doors in as hard as I could, for instance, and it still didn't fix how they get stuck. Either the guys at that cover place have too much plastic on their doors or I've screwed up in positioning the tiny springs or something. It could very well be the latter, because I tried comparing it to my old lid several times and felt hard-pressed to find any differences in the sizes of the openings and such.

Its called, Sbox. it plays any import games with swap disc.

its like a neokey but neokey doesnt play imports only backup imports but SBOX, PLAYS orginal imports and backup ps2.

http://www.console24.com/product_info.php/cPath/21_29/products_id/61

iits like using a slidecard. turn the sbox switch off...
then turn on the ps2 and press reset.
next press edit and put in the dvd swap disc.
wait til it says <"Load"
finally turn the sbox switch to on.
and press edit and put the game in there. then play.

but the problem is that it doesnt support V7(Which i have). one of them did but only support psone games for V7 higher and other ones supports both import and psones.

I recieved my HD Loader today.

Please note that I am NOT a HD Loader staff member, so technical assistance should still go to them, however, I can help with user problems, or infomation inquiries.

If you have a question on something that is NOT COVERED BY THEIR SITE AT THE MOMENT HD Loader.com you may ask here.

If it is a compatibility issue, take it to them, not me. Both Hardware and Software.

Things I have already found out:
DDR loads quickly and BEAUTIFULLY. (As does everything else biggrin.gif)
If you have a mod chip (slide cards and fliptops may or may not work, I don't know), you can backup and play Domestic and Import games.
I'm having very inconsistent results with backing up backups, I'll try and figure out differences... (yes, all these backups play on my PS2 just fine, but not all of them are being 'installed' in the HD Loader...)
That may just be my Modchip (Magic V).
Please test backups with different chips to figure out how it works with yours.

No, you cannot save (memory card) saves to the hard drive, you still MUST have a hard drive in order to save data in game. This is not any faster or slower, because the game's still adhere to the ability to transfer data to and from the memory card.

Comments? Questions? Thoughts? Any question breaking my rules posts in this post will be unanswered and simply redirected somewhere else, so please read first.

P.S. I wanna try SOCOM II, that game takes forever to load biggrin.gif.

How about this:Is it worth buying?

Sbox looks interesting.I might invest in one of these for the psone support, but can anyone confirm this really works with psone games?Specifically DDR5th mix, since Breaker Pro can't seem to boot it up.

Hm... dont kno its only 10 dollars HEHEHE... someplaces has free shipping but takes like 15 days to ship it. it works with any ps2 version but for v7 and higher, it only reads psone imports.

but i dont really kno if it really works good though. after all, its cheaper than slidecard but need swap disc to play import.

The flip-top mod has been unsuccessful even with all the homebrew solutions I've tried, so I think I'm going to go for a modchip instead. I've got two questions:

1. I play online games with my PS2 - namely FFXI. Is the DMS3 the only chip that I can use without losing my online capabilities or can other chips like the Magic 3 do it as well?

2. Please don't laugh at this one, but... If I have to get a DMS3 installed, are there any places where I can get the chip and the installation for under a hundred bucks? I'm a poor college student who has to pay for other things and I'm already $45 under on this stupid mod from PS2cover.com, so I'd really prefer to pay no more than $80 to have my chip installed. Some places charge as much as $179 for it, and that's just insane for me - I'd rather try soldering all 43-some wires myself even with no experience.

Yup im with u, but im under 35 dollars right now.

theres one site that u can send to get in install but u have to pay to ship it there and back and to get it installed and that will be over 300 dollars. try to get someone they knows what they are doing.

The DMS3 has boot time 'modes'. You have to start up the chip in 'sleep' mode in order to play games online. The DNAS system (the system that authenticates data when you go to play online) will lock the game if you attempt to play a game with a modchip or anything.

DNAS is almost the sole reason that 'sleep modes' exist in modchips.

I've been reading this thread for a while and I've been keeping up with the majority of suggestions for importing. For once I've got something to contribute. I apologize in advance if someone has already said something about this.

Import sites
I've imported from www.play-asia.com. They're pretty decent and you get legitimate games, no copies. My only problem with them is that they have such small stocks of games. I got DDR Club version (for DC) from them, and a movie with no problem. I also got a DC-X from them as well for $15.

DREAMCAST
I don't know if anyone actually has imported the Club mix and 2nd Remix version (since they kinda ... well suck) but just in case this is what I've found for importing for Dreamcast (DDR or otherwise):

1. Use a Gameshark/Cheats N' Codes, etc.

OR

2. Use a DC-X

When I play DDR, I have been using the DC-X, which is just like using the Swap Magics for PS2. All you do is load the DC-X, wait for the disc to stop spinning, open the system, put your game in and close the lid. Done.

Controllers, peripherals, etc.
Equipment test: All of my peripherals work. I have a Ignition (Red Octane legitimate) 1.0 for PS, 2 off-brand beat pads and 2 Innovation PS to DC converters. They all work.

Memory cards: I'm using regular DC memory cards, since they're universal. However, just to be on the safe side, I have "dedicated" one VMU just for Japanese game saves.

I can, by the way, play backup imports. A friend of mine burned Guilty Gear X, CvS2 and Project Justice for me, and I don't have to use anything special to play them. I've also been using the Gameshark to play Super Street Fighter II X and Vampire Chronicles so I know that it works.

GAMECUBE
I have a U.S. Gamecube, but I don't import games for it. However, I noticed noone has mentioned the Action Replay as a means to play imports. Of course no DDR, but just a side note if you want to play something like Naruto.

The Action Replay has a free loader on it, which a friend tested Naruto on so I can safely say it works as well.

Damnit I hate DDRFreak's little "If it's found ANYWHERE on this site, YOU CAN'T MAKE A TOPIC ABOUT IT!" thing.

Anyways, what kind of GameShark/AR do I need to play a burnt PS1 game on my PS2?

Your question has been answered in this thread. You can't. You can't play imported PS1 games or backup PS1 games on your PS2.

I suggest just buying a regular PS1 or PSX and importing/modding using the suggestions made here. That's your best bet and the only way you're going to be playing those PS1 imports.

I'm having a problem with my Fliptop+SwapMagic Disc combo...

My old PS2, which had a Fliptop installled on it broke, so I got a new SCPH 50001 model. I installed the fliptop on that but when i go to use a CD-backup, it doesnt even get to the "Playstation 2" or "Insert Disc" screens. Only the DVD disc works.

I also heard that there is a new 3.0 CD Swap Magic Disc, if i get this will it work on my CD games?

(I have CD Version 2.0 Swap Magic and DVD version 2.0 Swap Magic)

From what I've been reading on here, no. I thought people were having problems with some of the various chips to get the backups to play. That's why I was thinking about buying a JP PS1 and importing 5th mix because I thought I couldn't get the PS1 imports to play on my PS2.

For the person who inquired about the Swap Magics, I actually have the 3.0 and it works just fine for me. I have only had one problem, and that was with a Max backup, which refused to play after about 2 weeks. I just solved that problem by burning it again.

It plays fine now with the 3.0. I haven't imported anything else besides JP DDR on my PS2 and both the DVD and CD version work with no modding required.

I got my 3.0 from www.modchipstore.com.
