Unbans (curious)

Have administrators/mods ever unbanned anyone who "cleaned up their act?" I'm guessing even if this did occur it wouldn't be a very common occurance.

I got banned from here for a while. (Long story). Anyway, I asked a Admin. to ban me.

A few weeks later I sent him an e-mail to unban me and he did.

Point: I asked to be banned and asked to be unbanned.

I don't know though about those claening up their acts. I mean, how would a mod/admin. know if they have cleaned up their acts if they're banned...? Just a thought. Because if a person is banned then they can not post here. So, how would the admins know?

Usually once a person gets banned, they stay banned. And then there are the idiots who sign up again with a different name and think that we don't catch on. But we do.

When you comb over posts the way we do, you start to pick up on style/mentality. You can recognize a new poster as being an old one pretty quickly.

As for cleaned-up behavior, when you get banned, you can request an appeal or a reinstatement per the instructions in your ban message. It's admin/mod discretion as to whether to allow you back and give you a final chance.

I think the Admins have to make that decission. J Dogg heads them all though...Do you have to go through his ok to unban someone?

This has been a long argued topic within the moderators. We've never once been able to come up with a solid decision one way or the other because we're many different people with many different opinions on the matter, plus it doesn't help that we're human and we'll change our minds.

As it stands right now, allowing people to return is something we typically won't do. It takes a large amount of time before we'll even consider allowing someone back again, because someone isn't going to magically change their tone in a month or two.

When we do allow someone back, we don't like to advertise that fact as it gives people the impression that we'll let anyone back. It takes a fairly serious change in a person's behavior to bring them back.

Hope that explains things a bit better.

i know of several folks who have been banned and allowed back in. One friend of mine has been banned several times, and is continued to be allowed back in

Some people seem to ignore re-registrations, others don't as I've observed in certain hill forums. Also, there are ways to evaluate a person's character outside of this board. There are other boards, and then IRC.

Are you talking about "Tiger" from Memphis? He hit puberty and started playing FFXI, so he doesn't come here much anymore. And when he *does* come here, he acts like a real person now.
