|
|
I was just wondering, because I wore out my second today. My first was the one that just about everyone has (I forget the name of it, but the pakaging has a butterfly girl on it). The second one was a Mad Catz Beatpad. It was fine the first 4 weeks, but then I finnaly find something to keep it from moving on my carpet, and all of the sudden It is worn out. Now I can't play, and it sucks alot. _________________

1. Intec dance pad (cheap $20 one)
2. RO 3rd Party Metal Pad (Those one's you see all over eBay)
3. (Kind of) BNS DX-Xtreme (It's gone through some rough times. I had to open the control box thing and mess around with some things in there. But my brother played on the pad a few days ago and it worked great!)
4. CF (Just the CBOX got messed up...5 days after my warranty expired!) |

Soft pads in general don't last long if you play alot and/or difficult songs. This problem can be addressed by modding it, like the plywood mod which greatly increases its durability and life. Ignition pads do pretty well w/o any mods but can breakdown if not made correctly. I say soft pads and Ignition pads will last up to 6 months.
Metal pads will prob go for atleast 6 months if maintained correctly. The main worry about the metal pads are the arrows but those can be replaced. Unlike soft pads, you can most likely fix the problem.
While Cobalt flux supposely last forever...
For the record:
1 inactive soft pad (impossible to play heavy songs)
1 dead and lacks a control box BNS NX pad (spare parts are good ). I think this pad started dieing after 3 months and finally died 1 month after that.
My BNS DX Ignition pad is still kicking for 6+ months, after it had a sugerical procedure to replace its control box was done. |

Worn out one crappy soft pad. Two of my three ignition (1x Red Octane, 2x BNS) are being worn out on certain arrows. _________________

I haven't worn out any. To be fair, I switched from my Mad Catz Beat Pad to ignitions before it really had a chance to get worn. I imagine it wouldn't survive the daily play of 9 footers that I now put my ignitions through. |

I'm going through my 3rd and 4th pad right now (still useable but probably going to replace in a month/two)
I've only used 'ignition-style' softpads and seem to get about 6 months out of them (after 3 months they start giving occasional sticky/ghost step - after 6 months too many sticky/ghost steps to use so I change them).
I've been using '3.0 / hard-dense foam' pads for about 6 months and they are actually holding up very well but I'm starting to crack the arrows (down and left arrow are actually split open (currently taped up with duct tape but that's annoying since the tape keeps peeling and sticks to my socks) and right arrow is starting to show visible cracks (although not actually split open yet). (I find it ironic that the arrows still work fine but the cover is dying (kind of like going through the soles of shoes before the rest of the shoe is showing any major wear)
I play 4-5 times a week doing at high intensity (mostly 7-8 footers although I will also play 9-10s (just not usually pass them)) and I play on hardwood which I think is much harder on the pads than playing on carpet.
