OMG FALMEBATE!!1!1

Relax. So people use speed mods. It could be worse, they could be smashing the pads or causing other physical damage to it.

Speed Mods: Yay E4.gif

If it makes the game more enjoyable or if it helps you PA at your best, then by all means use it.

If songs were meant to be played at default speed, then maybe we should play at the default difficulty level as well - beginner mode (in reference to some persons' post)...

The only times I play on 1x is when I get bored using the speed mods or play Oni courses. Sure, speed mods may spread out the arrows, but the reaction time is lessened. One of my mates has difficulty reading moderate/slow songs on 2x, for example. He says it's too fast for him to read, so he feels comfortable playing on 1x.

Whatever floats your boat mate. E7.gif

Speed mods in casual play/at home: Yay
Speed mods in tournaments: NAY

IMO, if you can pass bag on 1x, you should be able to pick bag against someone, and get a free win because you know the other person can't pass bag without a speed mod.

Any tournament that allows speed mods = miss.

I'm more or less a no mod person.

The first time I ever used a mod was playing Abyss on heavy. I know how Abyss goes, because I have 5th mix and all. I turned on 2x just to see how it went and also to help myself read faster arrows, because I know for sure that I can't read all that fast (which is probably why I'm not a speed mod person). If it wasn't for my sister playing on the other side, I woulda failed it.

Today, I decided to sight-read Bag on standard turning on the 2x mod (I'm a 6-8, mostly just breaking into playing 7's player). Yeah, I passed it, but I feel like I cheated by using the mod.

Later today, I saw somebody playing Dam Dariram on 1.5x. On 1.5 it looks like an actual doable song for me, because I wasn't sure how the beginning went.

In the end, I still am not a mod fan, even though I see their purpose. I won't consider a song passed until I can pass it at 1x. As for playing faster songs moded, I don't think I'll ever be doing that - there's no point, for me.

/me shrugs.

Personal preference really. I like to use them on songs that are slow or have a lot of chaos. I useally don't use them as much for faster songs, but thats me. Experiment around with them to find what works best for you.

No offense anyonbe, this is not a flame, but just my honest opinion.

I think speedmodding is a crutch. Anytime I see someone speedmodding (or bar raping) I immediately drop them a few points of credibility in playing the game. That's a sign to me that they are not adaptable, they cannot account for circumstances that are not to their liking.

I didnt even know you could speedmod until I had a few catas finished. As a result of this I dont have problems with fast songs, slow songs, doesnt matter. I learned to read them and do them appropriately.

Just like I dont want to walk with a crutch, I dont want to use speedmods. To me it's the same thing.

Just learn to do it right.

Thank you, as you have almost word for word echoed my thoughts! As I see it, Konami designed the songs to have certain challenges, whether as a result of challenging steps, necessity of stamina, or speed issues. To use a speed mod is to destroy the entire reason to play some songs. Songs like So Deep and Sana et ne Morette (or whatever the fudgepacker that song is called) is meant to be played slow, and is far more enjoyable that way. Indeed, if one wants the true experience of playing, one should play at 1x.

DDR Fr33styler wrote:
yea it is a game, some people have different ways of thinking about things...some ract faster than others: which is one reason why konami created speed mods

Possibly, but I think the real reason is to help people who can't read the regular speeds for certain songs pass while enduring less of a learning curve, thus keeping them coming back to the arcade.

why did this topic get posted?...

Because this is the DDR Chit-Chat section of the DDRfreak forums, a forum for DDRfreaks to chit-chat about various aspects of the game that are not covered by other sections of the forum. To that end, if a bunch of us members of the DDRfreak forums want to chit-chat about our respective views on speed mods, then it is our right and priviledge as registered members of these forums to do so. And, if it's not, then a moderator will come along, tell us as such, and lock this topic. Remember, if one does not like the topic, he does not have to participate in its discussion.

My apologies for the ranting.

Interesting... I wouldn't have thought that people derived much enjoyment from blankly staring at an indecipherable screen full of densely packed arrows erm.gif

My speed modding has come to a point of impressing one of the best players in the state. x1.5 Drop Out "I have no idea how you can read that, i tried looking at your screen and couldn't do it"

I use them, but I'd like to become less reliant on them.
