I'm requesting a forums games section for things like "What Are You Listening To", "The Person Before You", etc.

That would encourage them. They don't need to be encouraged; that's why most of them wind up being locked.

We've considered something like this before, but it mostly is a big postwhore fest. We usually allow one or two to go on in Random Chat, but we'll lock them if they get too abundant. There are plenty of other places to play mindless forum games.

On the ol' Mortal Kombat forums there was a section for the forum games, and they didn't count for your post count.

They still counted for bandwidth, though.

Terabits of nothing, eh?

Sherl0k (SP?) was "passionately stating his opinion" about the bandwidth used through off-topic in a IRC conversation sometime before April 1, if memory serves me correctly. I'm taking his word for it, but I still don't see how that much bandwidth can be used. How many gigabytes or terabytes are you guys allocated per month? Is there also an hourly cap? I crunched a few numbers - 50K of data on an average post from the server, times 10,000 views in a day = 500 megabytes per day. That's a good chunk of data, but I'm pretty sure that would absolutely dwarf the amount of data throughput needed to, say, host those videos, and I'm also guessing, I may be wrong, that you guys can handle, shoot, at least a dozen gigabytes in a day? Again, I'm kinda stabbing in the dark here - let me know if I'm wrong.

When you run a site as large as this one, you don't measure your bandwidth the same way shared-host-servers do. E13.gif

I think 10K pageloads a day is a very conservative estimate. I probably account for at least 100 pageloads per day alone...and that was before I was a moderator. Then you also have the visitors that don't come to the forums.

Videos are hosted offsite. When they're hosted, that is.
