The perfect window @ the arcade is alot smaller meaning it's less forgiving if your slightly off. Also it's a diff pad and you have your shoes on when most times at home you dont. _________________

What Broadband said; having the shoes on your feet changes the way you play, because now you have more weight on your feet, and can feel the pad a little less. The RedOctane foampads are easier to slide around on (with no metal screws and things to hurt your feet), plus you can actually "cheat" and get a corner-double (like, up-left or something) with one foot if you wanted to. Additionally, if you're an erratic player, the corner-buttons may actually help your score (like, if you're panicking and hit a corner button and it registers as a correct step, it can save you from dying or whatever). On the metal arcade pads, more than likely you're playing w/ shoes on, so you can't feel your position as well, and how your foot rebounds off the pad is different too.
Maybe the windows are different between DDR Arcade and Stepmania; I do know that in Dance With Intensity, the windows can be user-adjusted. |

I had the same problem because I used crappy as hell soft pads. But when my soft pad broke I was forced to play in the arcade. Now I can A at the arcade but C at home with my extremely crappy redoctane soft pad. |

Step Mania's perfect window can be adjusted to be more 'arcade like', but unless you get a patch (or edit the code yourself), changing the grading window won't give you an exact match. When you change the grading window in Step Mania, it won't compensate for everything else, just the Perfect window...meaning Great, Good, Boo and Miss are now even smaller and harder to get. Which in reality means, you're settings are harder than the arcade. There is a thread in the Sims section on this very topic and how to correct it.
Everyone has trouble going from Home to the Arcade or vice versa. Give it time and just practice more in the arcade. |

The ratings at the arcade make a little harder to ge a b or up. Since you were wondering any flaw you make is graded harshly at the machine nearest to you. _________________

Also I have realized that the reaction time is slightly different not much but a little and if youve noticed the arrows are smaller on the dance pad than at home. |
