yea it is a game, some people have different ways of thinking about things...some ract faster than others: which is one reason why konami created speed mods, some people react slower than other: why you ppl can just stay on x1 if you want to. Anyways their is probably deep resentment between those who use and those who don't use speed mods. kinda like sugabyte here who does not use them he says, but ehr play on light/standard, i use speed mods and can play on heavy but i can also not use them and play on heavy

their are no offical speed mods of .25 or .5, only on stepmania which is not a konami liscense. 1.5x and 2x keep the same difficulty of the song only they speed up the song and to do that you must space out the arrows, so youa re getting the smae effect as 1x speed, only if you can think on your toes better than others you will benefit from speed mods.. 1.5, 2, 3, 5x yay, 8x crazyness for memorized songs.

A speedmod thread, we need more of those around.

Now there is a pathetic attempt at sarcasm.

I am not ashamed to say: "I use speedmods, and I am proud of it!"

Cartoon Heroes is just not the same if it isn't played at 3x. And on Saturday I managed to AA Bag for the first time - at 8x, see that speed mod is useful after all. Props to all who speed up LoM, I use 1.5x naturally and I am pretty sure that there are some speed demons out there who have no problem playing it on 2x. My challenge: "Pass LoM Heavy at 3x shuffle" is still out there, now that would be awesome.

Speed mods, gotta love 'em!

No offense anyonbe, this is not a flame, but just my honest opinion.

I think speedmodding is a crutch. Anytime I see someone speedmodding (or bar raping) I immediately drop them a few points of credibility in playing the game. That's a sign to me that they are not adaptable, they cannot account for circumstances that are not to their liking.

I didnt even know you could speedmod until I had a few catas finished. As a result of this I dont have problems with fast songs, slow songs, doesnt matter. I learned to read them and do them appropriately.

Just like I dont want to walk with a crutch, I dont want to use speedmods. To me it's the same thing.

Just learn to do it right.

i can see where you non-speed mod guys are comming from, you see it as a sort fo a cheat code in a video game. I learned using speed mods mainly cause my brain and legs must be at the same speed, having the scroll speed slower than the speed of my feet messes me up, I can do songs on 1x speed but they don't get as good of a grade as songs that i do on 300bpm, I may seem to be a speed mod whore but its just my way of playing the game, everyone has their own "style" to playing it.

I give anyone just as much credibilty for using speed mods but only to an extent. Speed mods can make a song more... id say "comfortable" to play. if someone plays rythm and policxe on 1.5x then no sweat. Max300 on 1.5x? no big deal, its still the same steps and to some ppl that can be harder to read.

on the other side, certain songs have dense arrows which are taking into account in the difficulty rating (i.e. bag, sana morette ne ente). i played bag with 5x and managed to get a good grade, but id never say i passed it untill i manage to pass it 1x. crutch would be an unflattering term, i would call it a learning tool.

same thing for the bar, the only song ive ever used the bar on is max 300 heavy. i havnt passed it yet but once i do ill play it no bar and try and be just as good E7.gif

yea bar raping is a big no-no in my book. I can understand using it to get back your balance but holding yourself up on it and doing a song just isn't good, and i have yet to pass max 300 on heavy too lol, get thruogh like 1/3 of it then i fail.

why did this topic get posted? it seems kind of pointless running a thread over whether or not to use speed mods, and somehow getting to bar rapists. that's as pointless as posting a topic over "n00bs." i mean, sure it bugs me when someone starts talking to me in the middle of a song, or when a "n00b" starts making fun of me, but why run a thread over it? and back to speed mods and bar rapists: so someone doesn't play the game exactly like you do. so what? talk to them in person instead of running a thread to thousands of people all over the world that you don't even know. either that, or don't watch a bar raper or a "n00b" if you don't like how they play. everyone learned to play ddr differently, so no need to flame them for not learning how you did. sure i use speed mods. its not cheating, its just separating the arrows and making them easier to sight-read. also, i don't like reverse scroll, but i'm not running a thread called "who gets pissed at people that use reverse scroll" or something like that, because i don't mind someone else using it. i just don't use it myself. so why run a thread that ends up flaming people that use speed mods?

yes people have opinions and some would like to hear others constructive opinions. Hence forums are a way of getting a variety of different opinions. So far their has been no flaming on this thread. Oh and thank you for you opinion it is greatly appreciated (no scarcasim intended). Now if anyone has some constructiveness to add onto this thread go ahead E1.gif

Speed mods: Yay. It helps me see the steps much clearer and makes me more accruate. W/O them, it's so hard to distigush the timing of the steps.
