It shouldn't be strictly a Firefox issue, because I believe it's a cookie setting. The only thing is, typically if cookies are misconfigured (and I seriously doubt they are) there's log-in issues as well. And there aren't .
I have something to add and a workaround to this though.
Workaround:
Log-out, log-in, all markers are white .
Addition:
If someone links me to a thread, I have to remember to visit the forums first (ddrfreak.com/phpBB2) THEN open a new tab and go to the linked thread. If I don't, all my new post markers reset, and typically at that time, I don't want them too. _________________

Yeah, that functionality was broken when I made some changes to the caching on the forums. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to fix it during that time, so I haven't looked at it since. _________________

I have a couple of specific threads bookmarked, and I've used them to open a new session on the website, and not experienced the behavior you mention.
IIRC, this was in Moz 1.5. I haven't tried it lately. _________________
