This thread is LONG. I read about 30 pages of it and have not found my answer, so I thought I would ask this question.
I have a BNS NX pad that has worked very well. Slides around a bunch but very accurate, no ghost steps etc.
Wanting some padding to make this hobby easier on my knees I bought a BNS DX pad. Unfortunately, this is not nearly as good as the NX pad. I find that many times the left arrow is completely unresponsive, the up and down arrows seem to ghost a lot and the whole thing is just quite frustrating to use.
Has anyone else had problems like this? Is my pad defective or is this standard operating procedure for a thick pad? The only thing that I can think of that might help would be the chair mat mod, but I can't understand how this would be necessary with what is supposedly one of the best pads on the market...
Any comments are welcome.

Um...chair mat mods are for Ignition pads, which is what a BNS DX pad is. So, do that... |

The durability should be opposite DX > NX. I had no such problems with my DX, even after 6 months (unmodded but duct tape = life support ). If the pad is still under warranty, I'd try to request for a replacement. mat mod wouldn't work for DX pad because the foam insert takes up all the space and fits snuggly within the pad. The chairmat mod was mainly for ignition pads with "soft" 1/2in foam because the inside of the pad move alot. The "hard" foam the DX pad offers pretty much functions as a chair mat mod. I'm sure when you get a properly made DX pad, you'll forget about the NX pad. I know I want to because it died a horrible horrible death... |

I would assume that the back button is the same as select. Try holding those 3 buttons longer 5 secs and make sure your pressing all of three. You can do the code anytime as long as the pad is plugged in. If that doesn't work, plug a ps/2 controller and press/hold the three buttons. If the directional keys still do not show up as buttons, I think your adapter doesn't have the code activation function. I don't know of any drivers you can get for this adapter, since its plug and play (like usb mouse). Either return the adapter for a replacement or get an EMS2 which requires no code.
I have the same adapter but I got it from their ebay seller. |
I actually purchased both my items from Vortz via Ebay as well, so our adapters should be identical. (It was simply easier to link to their website.) I've found that if I set "Ignore Joy Axes" to on, Stepmania will indeed crash. If I turn it off, the four arrows will register, and I can play the game - sort of. It won't register U/D or L/R combinations; clearly it's mapping the arrows to axes rather than buttons. I plugged in a PS2 controller and verified that the "Back" button on my pad maps the same as "Select" on the controller. I also tried to enter the code using the controller, but with no success. Unless anyone has any other ideas, I reckon I'll have to return the adapter - sucks, tho, 'cuz I'll be out nearly $10 on shipping, and by the time I get a working adapter, I'll have had my pad for two weeks yet been unable to play it.

(thanks for the help, BTW) |
Are you sure you're entering the code right? You have to hold it down for a few seconds. If it works, you should be able to see the arrows as button presses in your joystick control panel. It shouldn't matter if Ignore Joy Axes is on or not; if you assign buttons, Stepmania will just use those. |

Originally I Had A Redoctane Metal Pad which was destroyed so i decided to try cheapo and what do you know the same pads been working for months and months......my 20$ pad on plywood is still alive and working while my friend went through two ignitions which died from static shock and old age.......i recomend a modded 20 pad.....put it on some plywood.....duck tape 3 sides and push all the air out from under it and duck tape the last side.....and if you have a hardwood floor get those little sticky things with 2 sides and take one side off....stick em to 4 corners of the pad and presto no scratches the pad will slide alot on hardwood floors ....carpet and 20$ moded pads PWN Joo! |

Hello-
My daughter is new to DDR and we are doing some research on the different pads. I was inclined to get the Red Octane Ingnition dual 2.0 but I have been seeing some contoversy on those. I am kind of stuck between the Red octane dual 2.0 or the BNS Ultra DX extreme. Are these two the same? Different? Is one better than the other? I know the BNS is for PS2 wich is fine (we do have both PS2 and XBOX)
I do not want to do any of this "modding". I just want a decent pad for a lightweight 14 yr old and myself (also a lightweight, lol)
I have been reading that the dual version is having problems? Is the regular 2.0 better from red octane? There is a huge price difference...BNS is 48.95, Red Octane online is 109.99 (i swear the other day it was 99.99) and they do not even show the plain 2.0 anymore however gamestop has it for 79.99.Also Red Octane recommends a pad cover? Are these necessary?/
Thanks so much
Susan

So thats my dilemma...i hope someone that has used this can help me out...but please do not recommend getting one to mod. |

Go with the BNS Ultra DX, it has by far the best foam insert for the pad plus its a snug fit for half the price. The turn over is about 2 weeks when receiving it from them.
I have only one problem with the pad, and it might just be that I am too used to the arcade pad, (and this goes for all soft pads i belive, even though the DX is my first set) I feel as if my feet dont move quite as quickly on it, I feel as if my feet are literally sticking to the pad at times, plus I dont feel as if i can keep the rhythm on the pad because it is soft, I cant feel or hear the slight beat my feet are making as I dance. ( i like it a little loud) Plus the pad moves. . . which is one of the reasons probably taht I feel as if my feet are sticking, is because the pad is moving with my feet. I still feel as if I should have bought one metal pad instead but. . . I wanted two pads so I could practice doubles but have yet to touch my second pad oops, oh well. Over all, I got DDRMAX, MAX2, and Konamix, plus 2 Ultra DX pads from BNS for $238 after shipping
I dunno, something to think about. |

wow it was that bad? i did see your last post about it. I thought there is a 60day from red octane itself? even if you did not get it directly from them, the warranty should carry over. also if u put it on a credit card they will fight it for you. Well thats two telling me to stay away.....Any other suggestions?

So I have this cheapo "Pelican Accessories NightMoves Wireless Dance CONTROLLER." Just like that. And i can't figure out for the life of me how to mod it. There's no zipper and I don't even think there's foam. If there is, there's not a lot. Any ideas? _________________
