Hey gang, and thanks for checking out this thread.
I have stepmania in conjunction with a RedOctane (superjoybox) dual adapter. I finally got the thing to take inputs from my pad, but here's the deal: Every time I hit a double step, it drops one of the two arrows. I can clearly see this on freeze doubles, when one lights up and the other doesn't. It also fails to register doubles in the menu screens (i.e. to switch the song organization on the selection wheel). Has anyone else here had that problem? Can anyone help me fix it?
Thanks, everyone! _________________

The problem is that you have an adapter that only maps to axes (only single steps, no jumps). There isn't any way to fix the problem, other than get a different converter, like an EMS USB2 or one of the Boom adapters. |

HOLD ON ONE FRIGGIN SECOND.
is this your adapter?
if it isn't, then please disregard the following:
hehe...yes the super dual box will work. I have one. RedOctane sells them. I made a very detailed post on how to use the super dual box a little while back and have been referring people to it. the short of it is, after you get your pads plugged in and stuff, hold UP+START+SELECT for 3 seconds or so on your pad. go into stepmania and remap your pad in the key config menu. that should do it. the problem most people have is they forget to read. stepmania.com has the code listed right next to the listing of that adapter. it has a dance pad mode that changes the axis to buttons, so in effect, your arrows work as directional and as a standard button. Methinks they should add this code to the simulator FAQ to stop this question . in case anyone was wondering, the code also works for the smart joy plus adapter (red and black single player usb adapter). |

got one too =D
you dont need to press it for 3 seconds, a quick tap is all you need. the easiest way is to put your knee on the up arrow and smash the start and select buttons. finally, someone else who knows how to take it off of axis mode! _________________

yeah, I'm aware that it only takes a split second for the code to go in, but I always say 3 just in case they don't get all the buttons down. I press them the same way :0)
It seems I have to explain this whole thing every couple of days...I really think something should be posted about it in the FAQ :-\
maybe I'll PM a mod sometime... |

For that type of adapter, it seems it only works with the actual Super Dual Box. I recently got a SDB knock-off from Game Asylum via eBay and the code didn't work...
Needless to say, I ordered an actual SDB from LikSang toute suite....I should have it next week. _________________

your best bet is getting it from lik-sang or redoctane. I got mine off of ebay though and it works fine. |

I'm gonna be posting this message on a couple of threads so you might recognize this from some other place.
A friend of mine just introduced me to DDR, since I have a computer, I figured I'd be a soft pad of ebay and start practising. It came with a USB adapter, and I got stepmania. Long story short, I couldn't do the combo up+down and left+right. Since I sucked, at first I thought it was me. Then I went to control panel-> game controlers and selected my hardware and hit properties. I could see it register left or right pad but if I stood on the left pad, tapping the right pad did nothing. The same with standing on the back pad, and the front didn't respond.
I search the allmighty internet, and find a lot of people with the same problems. The usb adapter was the super dual joy whatever, the one that had to be reprogrammed to change to dance pad mode by sitting on select start and up all at the same time for three seconds. Everywhere it reads that that should fix my combo moves. Nothing works, and since I know a bit of electronics I decide to just cut the wires and switch the left pad with the bottom left and the bottom pad with the bottom right, since nobody oughta be doing those combinations. So I flip over my soft pad and unscrew the electronics cover and then I see it.
There are two more buttons! I had always assummed that the up-right was my start and my up-left was select. WRONG!
There are actually two small buttons above the up-right pad and up-left pad, above the words "select" and "start", I put my knees on those tap the up pad with my finger, et viola! All my problems fixed.
So for all you other people with not being able to do combo moves or wondering when or how to press the select+start+up at the same time. It works at any time, you only need to do it for a fraction of a second but you HAVE TO hit the "real" select and start button, not the up-left and up-right pad!
Afterwards you'll need to re configure your keys in stepmania but that should be a breeze.
Hope that solves most of your problems.
P.S. you might want to include this in your FAQ that it's not the up-right and up-left pad, but the small pad about the words "select" and "start" |
