topic: what are some important things to remember when waiting for a turn at the ddr machine?

I personally think its rude if somebody shadows without asking, i get a friend or my gf to sit on the other pad if i dont want some person jumping up

what are the rules that you guys play by in your area as far as coin lineup goes?

Around here, it seems pretty rude to put up a coin on the side that a person is playiong on. It can be somewhat distracting. At least wait for a break in the steps if you absolutely must.
Put up your quarter and walk away, don't dwindle right by the screen, because the person playing is then drawn to watching you, and not the screen just out of pure curiosity. And don't act like you're slick and try to steal someone elses' quarter. Just don't.

I live near a few reletivly ddr-active arcades. i had someone try to take my token once bc he thought i just left it for him (poor noob). I get confused when ther are tokjens on both sides of the machine. I try not to but everyone reaches infront of the screen to put there darn coin on ><

Coin Lines: I've seen 3 kinds of methods used. 1) Line up your coins on the machine 2) Use IDs or other items instead of a coin but same concept as a coin line 3) Put your coins into the machine and use a credit line.

Personally, I can't understand option #3, it's so annoying and completely stupid. Fortunately, none of the machines I go to use that method, but it never works well and people end up stealing your credits or you lose/forget your place in line since you're going off a constantly changing credit count on the machine. Where as a coin line has a physical line that you can see and overall works a lot better than most methods used.

Other things to consider while playing or waiting to play next.

1) Don't smoke, drink or eat on or very near the pads. I've seen people smoke while playing DDR and have seen entire pitchers of beer spilled on the pads before.

2) Do not shadow on the vacant pad unless you ask the person playing. Shadowing only bothers me when the other person is being very loud, annoying or interfers with me physically (I've had instances where shadowers literally hit me as they shadow, on accident, or they are so close my body hits them. Very annoying and rude).

3) Follow the coin line and don't attempt to play more than 1 round if people are waiting to play next, with or without a coin line present. It's amazing how many people think they own the machine till they decide to stop playing.

4) Do not borrow my towel or drink from my beverage. I've had people ask these things or attempt to just do them without asking. If I don't know you, the answer is flat out 'no'. If I do know you, maybe you can take a drink, but hell no to using my towel (unless we both want to have a nice rash in the morning, moron).

5) Don't pick the same song 2-3 times in a row. And on a similar note, don't pick the same damn songs everytime you play. I see people play the same songs all the time and never change from week to week. I'm glad you like those songs, but please add a little variety to the daily mix, it's healthy to do so.

6) Don't talk to the person playing on the machine. Unless you have permission or know that person well enough to know it's okay. Same goes for singing, cheering or other rude or annoying comments as you watch people play. I hate it when drunk idiots get up behind me and start chanting stupid crap (like counting with my combo or reading each step's score 'perfect', 'perfect', oh a 'great', oh another 'perfect').

7) Do not 'show off' and put other players down. I hate it when somebody plays a song (and fails or does it on a lighter mode) and the very next person gets up and does that same song on the hardest mode just to show off their DDR skillz.

8) Show some respect to the other players if you manage to get a name entry on the machine. Do not put offensive words or phrases into the machine for starters. Also, if you're on the machine scores, don't whore the board. If you get a name entry, good for you. But don't take up all 5 spots on the board.

9) Do not stomp or be abusive to the pads or machine. You look like an idiot when you do it too.

10) Have fun and enjoy yourself while playing the best video game out there ^^

Is it poor ettiquette to hop on a pad if someone gets frustrated and hops off while his partner continues playing?

Aoi-chan i think you may have a little to much time on you'r hands or your just passonate about DDR rules but i mean come on are people that ignorant to common sense, and you might as well just right the freakin rule book you seem to have a rule and tweek for every concept
