C'mon. He is on 6 footers, and your on 8. That's a two foot differene and he can pass a few 8's.
Did you know that in some places you are a n00b? Think about that.
Anyway, just help your brother learn to do a better and not to get cocky about it when he does. It's going to bit him in the ass later on if he does. _________________

There was a tournament in Charleston, SC in which this sort of happened. Some kid reverse-sandbagged because he thought Standard would be "an easy win" only to find out he couldn't clear 8 footers. Apparently, it's not uncommon for people to think they're much better than they are. _________________

I like to play two songs I KNOW I can do at the arcade(I'm worse at arcade than at home.." And then for final stage, I pick a song that I'm not so sure I can pass. That way, I still get my play time, and I get to practice a song I'm not so good at. Thats how I ended up passing SS<3M on my second time playing it! ^^ Try telling him to try that, instead of just jumping to 8 and 9 footers. You can NOT go from 6 to 8 footers, and a D on cowgirl doesn't mean every 8 will be easy. Oh, and the newbie picture is his signature, it's on all of his posts, it's not directed at his brother, as far as I've noticed... Heck, that guy isn't even the brother! Nor was he criticizing the way the brother played. Read posts and member titles before posting please. |

ick. There's this one kid who comes to our arcade every so often, and every third round or so he'll pick bag on heavy, and fail within seconds. It's so annoying to hear the first ten seconds of a song several times a day without the whole thing. _________________

this kid wasn't much of a n00bie but today i aksed him if he could play on heavy since he wanted to ddr with me and I he said, "only on some songs" ya know when they say that they can't pass or or very little of em, so i go ahead and warm-up with nori nori nori, he passes with a c so we go to play A renniance and he does it on standard, its my first time doing it on heavy (since its the first time i have played on extrmem since the days of light mode) and i pass, go me, lol. Then we do DAIKENKAI on heavy, i put it on x2 like always cause i m a speed mod whore and he asked me if its light, i go eh yea, and he puts it on heavy thinking it'll be easy. I killed the poor kid when he tried to play, and to boot he was swinging his arms on my side of the pad so i ahd to duck and cover lol. Well i got a B on it lol. _________________

Well, sometimes where I play, there is very rarely another DDR player. I mean, I passed some of the hardest nines in my opinion and I still have trouble on some other songs. The 6 to 8 leap is huge. Just tell him to try 7's first. _________________

Everyone has their own way of playing. I know it might not be anything like yours, and yes that may be annoying, but you have to deal with it. Sometimes doing harder songs is the way to go. After playing a lot of DDR at my arcade, a big line started. While I was waiting for my spot, I started to try the DMX machine. It is a first mix. How I learned on DMX was different. I started by playing Afronova on Wild. Sure, I didn't pass it, but I kept trying. Eventually, I started to pass it, and worked my way down. I think it was so easy for me to pick up because I played DDR before that, and it seemed like the same thing to me, only with hands. _________________

Hey, if they fail a song or three, that only brings your turn a few minutes closer. Heh.
I generally either play 2 songs that I can pass then a song that I can AA or am trying to pass or I play a song that I am trying to pass first song. The latter I do because one fails much more slowly on the earlier stages.
Maybe these kids are just doing what all of us do at some point, playing songs that they can't pass. _________________

apd: Please remove the Hajime no Ippo animation with your horrible Typesetting skills. It's hurting people's eyes...and for god sakes man, don't use white with black border subtitles...
In response to this thread, I totally agree with the points brought up about people trying to do songs/modes above their current skill level and feeling all mighty and powerful for simply attempting (and failing). These people try to skip steps and take shortcuts on their road to DDR fame.
I have a friend of mine that kinda falls into this topic. He tries to do Heavy songs, and I commend his effort. However, more often then not he is failing them or just barely passing them. His main problem is he doesn't take the time to learn from his mistakes and he is usually against taking any advice or suggestions. But this is his choice and he's not cocky about his DDR ability. He plays the game merely for fun, yet wants to improve and tries to keep up with me to a point. It's just funny and frustrating watching him play too. He is horrible at sight reading and looks like a stiff robot while playing. This is the only person I know that can pass a song with an A/B one day and completely fail it the next day...go figure |

Elitism sucks.
BTW, I like that animation. It's done very well IMO. The typesetting looks like it was done intentionally. |

The animation isn't the whole problem, it's the horrible typesetting. It's shaky, done with horrible colors (white/black) and the font is ugly -_- Not to mention, what does that post have to do with this topic?!? Nothing. That kind of typesetting reminds me of AnimeJunkies, it was a national holiday when AJ finally died |

Aoi-chan..
I have no idea what youre talking about. The font type and effect of shaking were mad to go hand in hand with the animation and i feel it was very good work.
I spent 5 minutes just trying to fint the point at which this thing loops but i couldnt. Marvelous work to whoever did it.
Oh... and Aoi-chan... i beleive you just wanted to show off your knowledge of anime... giggle... no... im not hating you... i would do the same too. _________________

Haha
That's hardly showing off, but I know what ya mean. And if anyone is lost on my anime-babble:
AnimeJunkies - Worst fansubbing group EVER! And now they are gone
Typesetting - In anime, it deals with the fonts/colors/styles of the text, and advanced typesetting deals with moving text and special effects (such as karaoke and effects done in most anime fansubs today).
Hajime no Ippo - The only boxing anime that I know of, was fansubbed by Infusion (#[email protected]) and is currently licenced by Geneon Entertainment (formerly known as Pioneer).
Now that could be called showing off my anime knowledge, hehe |

Well I see it like this. Your brother is probably trying to impress you and keep up with you. He wants your respect and to be as good as you are.
Help him get better at it. Watch him play, tell him to pratice 7 footers.
We all know how the arcade works, most players whom have not beaten every song usually tend to work at one song untill they can achieve it easily or barely. Ex. Working hard to pass Cartoon Heros although you can't pass Speed Over Beethoven. I've seen that.
Me I usually tend to make the big SKIP in difficult songs. I can do Max300 and PS. Not LOM, nor Maxx, but still i choose to pratice PSMO b4 either, and i'm on the verge of passing it. Can get 3/4 way through while i can only get 1/2 LOM and like 2/5 through Maxx. Now Explain that to me if you can. _________________

Anyway, I can easily do 8 foot songs, where my brother has a lot of trouble doing 6 foot songs. After playing B4U about 1,000 times, he finally gets a B on it, and says: "Ooo! I can do B4U on Standard now! You know what? I think I am ready for Heavy mode!" So he goes and tried Abyss on Heavy, and fails quickly, and says "Wow, thats a hard song, but I can almost do it!!" AHH!! I feel like I want to punch him sometimes!!! And right now, as we speak, he is trying A on Heavy, and fails, even before the fast part starts. And tried it about 100 times already!
...And, he says he can do any 8 foot song now, becuase he got a D on CowGirl. lol
Sorry about the rant, but I felt like I had to tell someone. |
I swear to God if you get one less perfect, I'm going to go on DDRFREAK and insult you. _________________

OKay... um dude with the Drop out result... what the ehck are you talking about?
And now Aoi-chan...
You seem to know a lot about unoficial fansubbing and quite an amount of anime terms... but what official anime knowledge do you know? Like how do you get your fix of anime... whats your favorite anime, why you like this anime... and some hardcore details about the anime. I'm just testing you. _________________

Yeah, my thoughts exactly with the Drop Out pic?!? Um...nice score, I'm impressed, but we are all lost
Neemo, I'm not exactly sure what 'unofficial fansubbing' means, that's a new term to me... I would guess 'unofficial' would refer to 'unlicenced' maybe? If you want to talk about anime in detail, I'm all for it. PM me and we can talk more, I don't want to flood a DDR forum about anime. I'll just leave you with a short flood
1) Your avatar is from Cowboy Bebop (Spike). This anime is one of the most popular titles in the USA, and was the number 1 selling title in Japan in 1998. The English dub is considered to be one of the best dubs in recent times, which is suprising it was licenced by Bandai (check out Love Hina if you need further proof of Bandai's horrible dubbing status quo). I have personally met Wendee Lee (Voice Actress for Faye Valentine) and have pics and autographs as proof. CB has also aired on Cartoon Network and the entire series is currently available on dvd.
2) My favorite anime is probably Card Captor Sakura (not to be confused with Cardcrappers, yes I spelled it right ), closely followed by Azumanga Daioh, Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch (my avatar) and Kare Kano (His and Her Circumstances) to name a few. The list is far too long to mention all my favs.
3) I buy most of my anime dvds either from local stores such as Best Buy, or online from websites such as www.bestprices.com or www.rightstuf.com (check out their Weekly Specials).
4) Aside from fansubbing myself, I do download quite a bit of stuff via IRC, BT and FTP. However, unlike many of today's newer fansub groups, I don't sub licenced anime, nor do I file swap licenced shows and never touch dvd rips.
If you or anyone else wants to talk more anime, PM me and we can chat. Or find me on IRC, usually on irc.rizon.org, and PM me there. Ja ne ^^ |

yeah my friend got me into ddr a few months ago, and now im better than him. he started like last summer and he can barely pass 5 step songs. then he fails and i step up playin 8 and 9 step songs and hes all like "yeah im gonna beat u one day, u just wait" when really i don't think he'll ever get on heavy cuz of how slow he progresses. in one week i got better than he did in 3 months.
yeah that really pisses me off. that, and when he shadows me on the machine and i think "is he watching the same arrows as me?? cuz hes all off beat. i dont even have to look cuz i can hear him stompin the pad over the music" |
