I have been playing DDR for about a month and a half and went from 125 to 120 within two weeks. I noticed that I lost weight even faster when I got to the 8 and nine footers. |

For some reason it makes me gain weight.
I started playing as 4'2 57 pounds. Now I'm 4'7 71 pounds.
That's messed up, cos I don't eat junk food. |

Though it isn't really a concern for me, I weighed 135 at the end of last year. I started playing DDR and now I weigh 140. I have super metabolism, but my diet is crap.

OK I have reviewed all of your other posts and decided to shed some light on this subject, I am a health major (can't think of exact class name atm, it is somethign to that effect ) and I have looked into this subject before, the reason(s) you may not be losing as much weight as you like are as follows:
1. As previously stated, your diet depends a lot on how much weight you can lose, some people can eat more and still lose the same amount of weight, some people can't, it just depends on your metabolism, I for one have a VERY high metabolism, high as in, I can eat a 2 whoppers and burn them off in 10 minutes.
2. You can really only lose weight to a certain point, if you have already about average weight, then there is not much else you can lose, and it is unhealthy to try and lose much more, I am about 35 pounds underweight from DDR, went from 5'10" 137 pounds, to 5'11" 114 pounds without really noticing it in a little less than a month. And there was definitely none of this: that is so ridiculously unhealthy I couldn't possibly explain all of the bad things it does to you, nor would I want to try.
3. Weight loss is usually VERY gradual, I only lose weight so fast because, I eat healthy, I eat too much, but I still eat healthy food, so that means stop eating junk food, and watch your carbs/cals and stay away from too much fat, ya ya ya you have heard it before, but that really is the most important factor in losing weight, even without working out too much that can make a big difference believe me. On a side note from that, if you eat a whopper or something greasy and bad for you before you play DDR, your performance may suffer as compared to if you had eaten a bowl of spaghetti, eat what your body needs, that means LOTS of carbs before you play, a good rule is only to eat a lot of carbs when you know you are going to soon burn them off.
4. Finally, DDR, while good exercise, really isn't the best way to lose weight, I'm not saying it doesn't work well, I'm just saying don't expect to lose every ounce of fat on your body in a week. The only reason I lost weight that fast was because I am already fit, exercise a lot, and eat well, but for the purposes of writing this post, I have stopped exercising out of DDR for the next month or so, other than my daily run, I will keep you posted as to how well it works for me, so that you can compare and contrast it to your results. But if you really break it down, you will notice several things that will aid me in proving my point, one being that DDR would technically be considered an anaerobic exercise, because it is no continuous exercise for more than 20 minutes, unless you are playing nonstop/oni mode then there are too many pauses in between songs/games for it to work as well as say, running a mile would. And because of this, your heart is not kept in your target range for more than a few seconds at a time, maybe for the second half of each song, it must be kept in your target range for approx. 15 to 25 minutes for maximum results. So try playing nonstop and oni mode, or playing easier songs continuously, instead of just one or two really hard songs. Anaerobic exercise doesn't do nothing, it just doesn't work nearly as well for weight loss as aerobic exercise does.
Oh and one last thing, just because you are not losing WEIGHT doesn't mean you aren't losing FAT, a lot of my weight has turned to muscle, specifically around my legs, I once lost 8 pounds in one night from playing DDR (which is very bad for you btw and I don't suggest ever trying to lose more than 1 or 2 pounds in a day or even a week, go very slow so you don't make yourself sick) only to find that the next week, I had gained back that same 8 pounds, but I noticed that my legs were more built and the rest of my body a bit toned, that is because the muscle tissue takes time to develop, and will slowly replace the fat you have on your body, muscle weighs more than fat so less of it will make you weigh more, so don't be surprised if you actually gain weight from playing, it is most likely muscle rather than fat. Try working out your legs and lower body before you start to play really hardcore, I like doing squats and leg extension/flexion to prepare for DDR, work out with a very high weight, then start playing DDR, when you take off the weight, you will move slightly faster in reaction to the decreased amount of resistance, do this often and you will be able move as fast without needing to hold as much weight, soon without any weight. Just be careful not to hurt yourself by lifting more than you can carry. I usually do about 10 reps of squats at 210 pounds, but that might be a bit much for most people, try starting at around 2/3 your body weight, then move up if it is too easy. If any more help is needed than give me a buzz on AIM my sn is ddrfan163 and make sure to tell me in the first message that you are from DDRFREAK, I will always be glad to help if you need it.
Hope I have been of some assitance on this subject, like I said IM me if you need more help |

DDR might not necessarily make you lose weight, but it will make you healthier. You will most likely burn fat, which is healthy, and you will build muscle, which is also good. However, in spite of this, you might not see a difference on the scale. Muscle weighs more than fat, so if you lose some fat, and build a lot of muscle, you will gain weight, but be a lot healthier at the same time.
If you are not losing any fat, then a change of diet is needed (it's not a bad idea, anyway). Consider that a 20 oz. bottle of pop is, on average, 250 calories. There is absolutely no nutritional value to pop, and if you don't do a fair bit of activity, those calories become fat. Take also for instance McDonalds. A Double Quarter Pounder meal (not even supersized) is well over 1,000 calories, most of which are from saturated fats. Every 3,500 calories that your body doesn't use translates into 1 pound that you will gain in fat, meaning that a few bottles of pop and a weekend of eating McDonalds and you will gain weight.
The moral to the story: Play lots of DDR and change your diet (at least cut pop and a lot of the fast food) and you will be healthier. For instance, I used to be able to bike about 3 miles before I was dead. After a couple of years of DDR, I don't even know how far I can go (simply because the farthest I ride is 15 miles)...
Holy freakin' long post! Hope it helps. _________________

After reading everyone's posts, I'm willing to bet the reason some of you haven't lost weight is simply because you're eating more than you did before you played DDR. You're using a lot of energy playing the game, naturally your body is going to compensate by increasing your appetite. This happens to me with pretty much any sport/exercise I do. |

Same with me as well. I got DDRMAX last Christmas and be working my butt off since than. Maybe I've just gotten impatient lately with wires sticking out of pad and my up button sticking....... Yeah that might be it.
I've only gained. It's mostly porpotions. ~shakes her head~ I've heard it all before, but for some people who eat healthy food and stuff, some people start eating too much of that... Me. I never drink Soda or eat anymore junky food. It's like forbidden. oO'
But I damn don't doubt that DDR can do wonders for some people. Just not for all. My friend lost 20 pounds >__>' Than gained it back.
You also have to count that even though you might not be losing weight... you might be losing fat that's turning into muscle. That's what happened to me when I started Bicycling. XP I still have stong muscles in my calves from that.. and I have Bicycled for years now.
In a Nutshell: DDR works differently for different people. _________________

I'm only 125 lbs, and I have neither gained nor lost weight ever since I started playing DDR a year ago.

Howard wrote: | Quote: | My diet is probably at fault. | I agree. When I started (about three weeks ago tomorrow) I weighed about 250, now however I weigh 245. Diet is a very important part of the process. Cut out the junk food and most of the pop and I think youll see results. If you can I would reccomend replacing pop with gatorade and then perhaps just trying to go to water. |
HAhaa hell yes, my friend ask me why i always bring gatorade to school every day for?
I was like im on a diet. then they said :psh ur already skinny , u dont need it.
then i told them that i was thirsty... i like drinking the new flavor kind. those two mix flavors in one .
the best part is, if u get thirsty... drink that or water. makes u feel refreashed and cool. then it makes u feel like playing ddr more. heck, i have 20 packs of them. it taste better if u put it in the freezer and then go play ddr . _________________
