I haven't been DDRing all that consistently, but the cables still work (when I do DDR, I usually go nuts for like three days straight then rest for a week). So far so good! I'm using a Mad Catz extension cable for one pad, then a no-name 3rd party extension for the other. Cost: $8 for Mad Catz, $4 for no-name for a total of $12. |
why would the cables die from being plugged/unplugged too much? and how would buying an extension cable prevent this, cause wouldnt u just be plugging/unplugging the extension cable just as much as you would with the normal plug if u didnt have it? |
well if you plugged and unplugged it too much then the needles could get bent or disconnect. also if u pull too hard the wires could get stretched and ripped out. the extension cord allows a second plug to come in. if u don't disconnect the extension cord and regular cord plug then the extension cord could act as a spare cord. |

I would assume that the back button is the same as select. Try holding those 3 buttons longer 5 secs and make sure your pressing all of three. You can do the code anytime as long as the pad is plugged in. If that doesn't work, plug a ps/2 controller and press/hold the three buttons. If the directional keys still do not show up as buttons, I think your adapter doesn't have the code activation function. I don't know of any drivers you can get for this adapter, since its plug and play (like usb mouse). Either return the adapter for a replacement or get an EMS2 which requires no code.
I have the same adapter but I got it from their ebay seller. |
I actually purchased both my items from Vortz via Ebay as well, so our adapters should be identical. (It was simply easier to link to their website.) I've found that if I set "Ignore Joy Axes" to on, Stepmania will indeed crash. If I turn it off, the four arrows will register, and I can play the game - sort of. It won't register U/D or L/R combinations; clearly it's mapping the arrows to axes rather than buttons. I plugged in a PS2 controller and verified that the "Back" button on my pad maps the same as "Select" on the controller. I also tried to enter the code using the controller, but with no success. Unless anyone has any other ideas, I reckon I'll have to return the adapter - sucks, tho, 'cuz I'll be out nearly $10 on shipping, and by the time I get a working adapter, I'll have had my pad for two weeks yet been unable to play it.

I got a pair of those ignition pad knockoffs online and the one I've been using just messed up. The back arrow only works sometimes, and never if I try to hit it right after another arrow. I've only been playing DDR for a month now and the pad is already kaput.
What really ticks me off is that I'm all the way up to passing most 9 footers and now and the pad goes out.
Any ideas as to whats wrong? Aside from it being a crappy pad. |

I do have to admit that it was a very comfy and responsive pad all the way up till when this happened. And I've put about 1-2 hours of solid DDR on it almost every day. But even then it only adds up to about 50-60 hours of play. |

I got my Vortz pads a few days ago...they are great . It's pretty much what all of the other reviewers have said.
At first the arrows weren't nearly sensitive enough, but after wearing them in a bit they are perfect. The cable is a little short. It's not a problem for me since my ps2 is nearby but I can see for some people it would be a problem.
I have no other ignition pads to compare them to, but as far as I can tell there is no reason to go and spend the $100 on a RO when you can get two Vortz for $54.98 with shipping. |

Well you can open up the control box and check whether all the connections between the copper connection sheet and the circuit board. You can try shaking/hitting/pressing the down arrow in hopes it will jar the connection back into place. Other than that, I think your out of luck. You could open the pad up and see whats going on, but you could mess it up more or make it break faster. Repairing an ignition pad is not very feasible... Are the pads still under warranty? I'd try to get RO to send a replacement if they still are. |

Well after reading up a bit, I decided to mod my other pad which I just took out of the packaging. I was keeping it in case my first one failed and it did, whodathunkit?
Anyway I used the chairmat idea I've seen around earlier this thread. I got a 15 dollar chairmat from staples, some snips, and I went to work. After I attached the cut out section of chairmat to the foam insert and put the pad back together, the surface feels even better. It gives me a little spring on my step instead of sinking in.
At first though, the top surface seemed to slip around a bit because of the slick chairmat surface it was on. So I fixed it by making loops of packing tape so it sticks on both sides and taped those down with more tape strips to form sort of a criss cross pattern of stickiness.
Now the pad seems so much sturdier and the top doesn't slip at all. In fact, it even reduced the distance that the pad travels on the floor because of the extra weight from the piece of chairmat. It used to be that if I played endless, I'd have to move the pad back in place once every 5-6 songs, now I can play an hour and only have it travel a few inches.
I'm hoping this mod will prolong the life of my pad, since my guess is that the old one stopped working because a contact strip may have gotten stretched too far because of the foam support caving in.
If this fails in a relatively short amound of time, I may just break down and try to fund a cobalt flux metal pad. |

Hey guys, I can provide a bit of insight to all who lost their down arrow. I opened up my Ignition pad to find out if anything is wrong, uppon unzipping it, i noticed tears in the thin plastic lining above the foam. I peeled this back to get a look at the underside. Ignition pads,*not sure about others* use paper thin sensors glued to a thin sheet of plastic for their connections. I for one, *most other people do to* play DDR heavily here. When most people hit the down arrown, it causes dance pads to slide. this also puts a forward momentum on that spot, while your other foot keeps it down. Apparantly, while playing maxx unlimited, this motion caused the sensor and the paper to tear. Thus, the sensor died completely.
IF you have any fix for this, please post, i'm sure it will help up all greatly...
I'm currently building my own pad as well, so I can play without worrying about Foil or Paper-think sensors. w00t _________________

Yeah, I had one of the original DDRMAX2 pads and it worked fine until the back button's sensor moved up and to the left a bit, which is when I decided to buy a BNS Ultra DX. Mm, that's a good pad. |

I guess you got the short end of the straw... err or unlucky. I've read some post where RO and BNS died within a months or few weeks. Maybe the person on the assembly line in the factory got careless or something. Atleast they weren't two BNS/RO pads which would've cost you double/quadruple... Although, RO does have the 60day warranty, but your fux after it Did you do anything different when playing or storing your pads as oppose to your previous pads?
I've found some post where vortz pads are still in good condition after heavy usage.
Promit wrote: |
For 3 weeks now, my Vortz pads have taken 8 and 9 foot songs from Max and max2 pretty much non-stop. Not only are they still perfect, the foam inside isn't even marginally torn. I love my Vortz pads. |
Duvdev wrote: |
After reading Promit's post I decided to check the inside material of my Vortz. After about one month of use by a bunch of different people, one pad is perfect with no rips, but the other (the one which I believe has gotten the most use) has two small rips near the top of the bottom arrow, but the pads are still working great, and I have started Aing and Bing many 8 footers and some 9 footers.
