After about two and a half years since last playing DDR (I was borrowing game and pad, then I moved and had to give it back) I finally got my own game and pad. I got DDRMAX2 and a Naki DPR2 pad for $55 before tax.

The game is great, it feels good to be playing again. I was a bit rusty at first, but I'm starting to regain my potention again.

My question is, what is the safe way to store these soft pads? Is it safe to fold it and put it back in the box for the day, and if so, what way do I fold it? I have bad memories of my friend's old first version Naki pad and how it took its toll. Not sure what triggered it, just being used out or being misstreated, or maybe the folding.

I know soft pads are suicide, or so I've heard from everyone unless it's red octane (very expensive where I am), but I had no choice pretty much. I could have gotten a Mad Catz which was $30 because of a button up case and a longer cord, but then my mom wouldn't have let me get the game, and what's a pad without a game? This was an end-of-the-school-year gift.

Anyway, sorry, kinda rattling on here. Thanks to anyone in advance for replying, or reading it even.

Say what?

The best way to store a softpad is totally flat. Folding your softpad will give you seams which will not only make it harder to keep the mat flat, but it could also lock one of the sensors down, making the pad unuseable.

If you *must* fold it, fold it in three's, along the lines between the arrow panels.

dont let the pad touch the sun light bc it can cause the pad to get soft. meaning it can cost the pad to slip.

Definitely DO NOT fold it. Its a shame these things are packaged folded in a box but I guess that can't be helped. (The beginners bucket was probably better for this.)

And if you ever get an Ignition don't remove the foam and fold that either. Unless you think you might be selling your pad just throw the box away since you'll never put your pad back into it.

And if your mom says "Get that thing off the floor", slide it under your bed.

yeah, store it flat under your bed.
And if you want it to last, you should mod it, and you won't be able to fold it anymore anyway.

I fail to see how this is physically possible, unless the pad is made of some sort of industrial sludge.

Sunlight usually makes plastics hard and brittle, not soft.

And my nieces do this to their DDR pads, and I've never seen the behavior you mention.

If your going to a friends, I recomend folding it the way the fold the soft pads in the boxes, putting it into a SOFT bag (so not forcing it..). And don't throw it around.

Never get a madcatz..almost everything they make SUCKS. My best opinion is to goto your local gamestop and grab one for $15. You know, the one with the faerie chick on it. I have 2 of those, 1 has lasted a year ^-^

Naki DPR2 pads are the ones you are thinking of. Mine lasted until I started playing songs that had 8th notes in them and me being the noob I was, I didn't modify them at all.

I live for my modified ignitions now, I got a pair off Ebay for $57 and put a board in each. I've had them since March and they are still as reactive as the day I pulled them out of the box.
