Article exposes the "dark side" of DDR

There is no point in flaming the dude for anything unless u have never done anything similair yourself.

So what if he stole stuff, no one here can tell me they have never stolen anything in their life like downloading mp3s ur not suppose to to saving pictures from the internet that are copyrighted.

People mentioned that its dead and over with, well it should be kept that way. Anyone reading thing will not only hate the guy for what he did but also hate DDR players because this is what sets up stereotypes. Last thing I need is someone to look at me on a DDR machine and think im a stealer. Its done and over with, if it died then keep it that way.

For the guy who said you dont get a girl after playing DDR, your somewhat correct and wrong. Plenty of times I walked out of the mall with a girls attention for beating out just about everyone else. Alot of girls who say they think the game is dumb really do think its cool, believe me i got more girls playing ddr in 3 months then the 2 years it took me to get all my friends hooked on it.

2 things, one, if you are playing ddr to get girls, you are beyond help. Also, if there are girls that are turned on by arrow smashing, you got to question the quality of said girl. That is all.

Just read the article today, and MAN!!!! That dude went to some extremes to play DDR. Now while I wont call him VERY dedicated I will say that if he wants to rot in Hell thats his choice. CATHOLICISM'D!!!

Knowing most people they would probably judge us by the example of what one person does, lets face it, thats just a way the world goes. Now I dont want to try to support this dude, but I gotta admire his dedication even though people may disagree with me. Anybody who would go out there and steal for a game he loves is into that game with a passion. Sorry your love for the game got a little out of control Giles man!!!

Whoa Giles, I didnt know how that really went down. Even though i might get hurt for saying this, "I believe you." I wanna check out these records too, if youre as good as you say you are, then i gotta take a look! Anyway, sorry man...

Old news to me. The article did blow things apparently out of porportion, but it still holds some truth. I got over it, and I think everyone else on DDRKC got over it, but now it's back on again. Whatever, the guy who wrote it is a douchebag, and it shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Damn, this being on ddrfreak is bad idea. Now everyone thinks wayne is the lamest ddr player ever. God, quit calling him all these stupid names. The Pitch Article was meant to show what the ddr scene is like in KC, and wat its about... not how "this goth guy" did some bad things in the past.

Just so you guys know, I'm from the KC area, and yeah, there have been numerous letters written back to The Pitch in response to the article. Also, I'd like to add that none of you have actually met the person mentioned in the article. He's actually not that bad of a guy (I've played with him, and we've hung out a few times), except for the fact he made a mistake. Quite a big one, at that.

Anyway, mention it to him now, and he won't deny it at all. In fact, he's had some responses back when the article first came out, and here's one that I'll link to: http://www.pitch.com/issues/2004-04-01/letters.html/1/index.html
Other than that, I'm done. Not my place to defend him, at least any more than I have. All I'd say is keep an open mind about it, things may not always be as they seem.

As for the article, yes. This is old news. I don't know why it was brought here, I wish it wasn't. It was better off that only the KC crew and friends of the KC players knew about it. It puts a reallll bad impression on the KC DDR scene, and even takes a blow or two to DDR itself. That's not the best thing in my opinion.

The KC crew has left all this alone and let it rest. I hope the rest of you can do that too.

Ok, not to bash on sherl0k (I AM bashing on ryne though), but you guys have NOOOO idea what you are talking about.

I like Wayne, i do, but what is said in that article about Wayne IS true, what they said about DDRKC is VERY f'ed up. He is cool, but he also has the people skills to trick them thinking he's their friend. He's screwed over many people also. At one point he owed over $400, maybe more, from mooching off people. Like I said before, he's awesome, but he's a douche. He's VERY good at bullshitting people. I know him personally. I've stayed at his house, ive talked to him DOZENS upon dozens of times, ive hung out with him for days, he's fun to hang out with, but, he is what is said in that article. I know Wayne will see this, and I know he'll agree with me. He isn't liked by the majority of the KC community, simple as that. Really, the only BS in that whole thing was the misinformation on Ben Paynter's part about the DDR community, how he screwed up school names, screen names, etc., and he made up stuff, or simply one persons actions is all of us? Just the general misinformation.

Honestly, you people have no right to judge this man for what he did. Not only have you heard only one side of the story, but it doesn't even have anything to do with most (if not all) of you. So unless you were directly involved, and know for SURE what happened, it's really not our place to judge. And no, I am not judging any of the people who flamed Giles. The whole thing happened almost a year ago, and has since died. I am sure Giles has taken enough harassment from people in the area. He doesn't need more of the same on the internet.

Yeah, this article is just full of bull poopy. I live in KC so I know. 65% of that article is pure bullshit. Expecially the stuff about the pad. I havent been over there but I do know most of the people that go over there. This article was about Wayne Giles and a few of the frick ups he has made. Thats it. It isn't anything like the DDR scene that I live on, and im in KC. Read other Pitch Articles, they dramatise everything and tend to play to the dark side and make everything look bad. DDRKC messed up in having the pitch do a story, big time.

Lord... I'm just glad I read through all 6 pages of the article and than reading the 3 pages that were posted here about it.

It figured the press would do something like this. I'm not saying the guy was satan, and I'm not saying he was an Angel either, but we're not perfect and we make mistakes.

Another thing, I wish the media would just... stop connecting stupid things to Video Games. Like, Violent Video Games make people shoot up school! No..... Lame Brain Parents who suck, and have no control over their children are responsible for that one.

Anyway... It's all over-blown and I hope it dies off quickly.

I'm glad that no one reads anyone elses posts, or everyone would realize that the guy who was the main feature in the article (me) already posted about it.

BTW, I LOVE how about 25% of the people care about the actual issues addressed in the article, and the other 75% are just saying "OMFG HE MATRIX WALKS DIE NUB"

It's also great how most all the people who really matter already posted about it and just don't give a damn.

The guy was trying to sell his product (like many media outlets anymore it seems like) instead of telling the actual story. I think it's a wonderful thing that a community can band together and help each other out in times of need like this, so props to KC for standing firm and getting the shit straight.
