Home made metal pad problem....Pleae help!!!

Ok, first off Im a noob to this site so excuse me if this is in the wrong area. I didnt see anything that was along the FAQ or Troubleshooting lines. But more to the point. I made a metal pad and Ive got a problem. My down button doesnt want to work during gameplay. In the menus it works fine but when Im in a song, I get nothing. Im using an old original Sony controller. Im thinking it may be a voltage issue. But Im not entirely sure. If anyone else has had this problem, please let me know what your solution was or if you have any thing that may need to be brought to my attention that would be great. I miss my DDR and I hate getting C's when I know i can do better. DAmn malfunctioning button, lol. Thanx alot for the help!
