Nintendo unveiled their entry into the music game genre with their game Donkey Konga. This game features an interface similar to Taiko no Tatsujin, but it uses a controller made up of two congo drums and a microphone. The game is played by striking the left, right, or both congo drums, and clapping at the right time. Donkey Konga is fun for up to four players, but clapping your hands so much hurts after a while ;p. _________________

I heard yesterday that it would only keep music gamers interests for so long because of lack of difficulty after awhile... |

Taiko no Tatsujin isn't very hard, and that's like the most popular non-RPG PS2 game in Japan. This game is fun and I hope it becomes popular. And you need the bongo controllers to play DK Jungle Beat as well (which is more of a traditional DK platformer), so I think a decent of people will be getting the bongo drums. _________________

For sure I'm picking it up. The US songlist looks pretty good and it should be fun for a long time. Might even buy some extra sets for 4-player. That may be its strength, multiplayer.

One interesting feature in the demo I liked was the ability to switch between Bongo noises and NES noises. OK, I suppose it could get annoying real fast and it's kinda cheesy, but it's also pretty hilarious when your bongo makes a bunch of strange noises from ol-school NES games (I recgonized sounds recycled in games like Mario Bros. and Ice Climber) _________________

Awww...i was hopin for wipeout to be on the list. it'd be quite the trip to see what they could do with the drum solo . Heh, the song list doesn't look so bad though. Oye como va should be pretty fun too. If i had a gamecube, i'd buy that game, it sounds like fun |

i was kinda skeptikal about this until i saw the classic nintendo songs as options (Zelda, mario etc.) This looks interesting....maybe this is Nintendo's way of asking for ddr to come to them!! Hey if this catches on their may be a Donkey Konga 2nd mix _________________

I owuldn't be surprised. So all you GC owners should get this and show your support when it comes out, because it's a pretty fun game. _________________

Quick question about the "Pokemon Theme" track on this game. Which theme is it? Original, Jhoto, or Advanced?
Thanks. BTW, hope there are more songs that are hidden, but if not, it'll still be good ^^.

Do they all sound different? I only know the original one. And I'm pretty sure it was that one. _________________

Perhaps the ENTIRE population of America has forgotten about the existence of imports! The game is a legitimately fun game, and if its anything like the two Japanese versions that are out now, then it will definately be fun The game is very similar to Taiko no Tatsujin but with clapping involved too. There is an unlock system where you earn cash based upon how well you perform in songs. After earning money you can go buy songs, different bongo sounds and other options, (it takes a certain amount of intuitiveness to get around the Japanese menus), which then become available in normal play.
In the original Donkey Konga there were remixes of the DK rap, the Mario Theme Tune and Turkish March (Hi there Pump it Up!), so if the English (and by that I mean american, considering that the UK will never see it ) release is any thing like the Japanese one, it should be a great laugh |
