With stuff like this, a "Virtual" DDR Pad seems like a good use of the technology....

What do y'all think?

well, it uses a level infared beam to read the positions, so I'm guessing that, say, you can't press one key down if you already have a finger down blocking the way. So, you'd need at least two sensors to make a DDR pad, but that wouldn't be hard compared to getting just one.

Nice idea (I thought about the same thing when I first heard of those) but I doubt it will ever be used for DDR.

wow, that's really something, though I don't really see the benefit of having a DDR pad like that, the actual pads cushion you while you jump, I can't imagine I would be able to do as well on just a hardwood floor.

Well, it might be cheaper, and you could use shoes without worrying about breaking anything.

I can see advantages and disadvantages:

Advantages:
"perfect" pickup ability. No ghost steps and such.
Shouldn't really ever physically break
Probably pretty cheap

Disadvantages:
Would probably have to be pretty big to broadcast the pad footprint. Think about this. It'd have to be tall enough to project/read the image accurately, but would also have to have a wide enough base that it won't fall due to vibration.
On that note, probably prone to moving from vibration.
No tactile feedback as to where you are on the arrows.
No padding from step shock.

Though maybe ductaping the bastard to an ignition would be pretty sweet.

I think that would be really cool. Except that while you are playing you cant feel anything under your feet so you wouldnt know if you were stepping on the arrows. Maybe you could make your own little pad that it could project the beams onto so you can kind of feel where you are.
